This is so well acted - particularly by John Goodman. Even though the jokes are sometimes absurd he plays it straight and subtle. Comedy actors are so underrated.
My dad's sister married a Jewish man. My aunt never liked company, but when she died I went out to the Bay Area to visit my Uncle Bob. I went twice with my parents and then several times by myself. He eventually moved into a Jewish retirement community. It served meals all day. All the old Jewish people would break down all the meal possibilities to me. It was always so entertaining to me as a guy from Minnesota, because in my mind I was on a Seinfeld episode. Eventually my uncle passed away, which was a sad day. I'm getting a little vaclempt just thinking about it.

Mike Myers is absolutely amazing. I always love all Austin Powers movies, but I forgot he had such and amazing Jewish character. You’re such a mensch.
I read somewhere that Linda Richman is based on Mike Myers’s mother-in-law. Works so well.

What are you talking about, he got two movies out of one of his skits on Saturday night Live. Not many Saturday night cast members past or current can say that. Yeah he might not be doing much nowadays but back then Mike Myers was making a pretty big name for himself, and he most definitely was not underated.
Such a great script...understated yet hilarious...and the performances, sublime!
The fact John Goodman pronounced Budapest correctly makes me love this even more.

What was funny about Leon Klinghoffer, he was from my area,He was pushed off the ship in his wheelchair.
Leon Klinghoffer was an American man who was shot, killed and thrown overboard from the cruise ship Achille Lauro by members of the Palestinian Liberation Front who hijacked the ship in 1985.
Sad.
It wasn't funny, that is why she said she is verklempt.
This was a great skit, but the Klinghoffer reference was kind of a “jump the shark” moment. I usually laugh at anything, but terrorism just isn’t funny.

yeah theyre obsessed with cake and pastry and bread because it's foreign and exotic even though they've had it for like 200 years now.
