I’ve made multiple Noodlehead bags over the years and this looks like it will be a favorite! I’m making the larger size Oxford and widening the base to 8-1/2”. It will be my sewing machine carrier bag for quilt guild. It’s about half done and I’m so excited!
Just found your channel, thanks for these videos. I’ve bought 3 patterns and I’m ready to try sewing a bag. I’m a quilter and hope I can make some bags.
Oh Joy! Im so happy your doing this tutorial! I made so many Haralson bags I think about 25 lol😅😊❤. My all time favorite bag! I've been looking for a bag just like this one 🎉🎉🎉🎉 so so excited! You are the best designer ! ❤❤❤❤
Don’t print from iPad guys, but MacBook gave me 100% choice. Good I did a test. Thx for extra downloads 🙈Can’t wait to get this cut out. You have fabulous fabric combinations but I must check my stash. Thx for video help
I just finished my first Oxbow Tote the other day. It’s a good pattern! I was wondering if you thought the main panel could be done in vinyl on a domestic machine? I have so much vinyl that I’d like to use up. Thank you.
Hi. I am from Brazil. Yesterday I bought a pattern from another shop on Etsy and I didn't received the pdf of my order. I will buy this pattern of this bag I hope I receive the pattern.
Just finished my first Ox Bow. I used olive waxed canvas. I need to cut the zipper longer next time. I can’t believe I had dark green soft leather in my leather stash.
Yes there will be. I will be publishing it the morning of January 19th. Here's the full schedule: blog.noodle-head.com/2024/01/oxbow-tote-sew-along.html
Hi! For my samples I didn't end up using interfacing on the waxed canvas base. You could add it to the lining piece instead (that way you could fuse it in place. Otherwise you could baste it in place on those short end of the base. I'm sure you could have other options, but those are the first that come to mind. Hope that helps!
Thanks for this pattern and tutorial ! I absolutely love your patterns! May I ask what size is the quilted one that’s yours. Sorry if you said it. Thank you ❤
Finally made one today! Beautiful pattern and I’m always so grateful for your videos. I’m not sure what happened but the zipper I cut (18 inches) didn’t result in having a longer overhang 😢
I don’t think so. I watched Oklaroots’ tutorial and she had the same look to the zipper so it must be right! I’m making another today so I’m going to use a longer length zipper as I like yours showing a long tail. Love all of your patterns!!
@@frankiedewsbury9100 Check out step 4a (specifically the tip), if you used zippe-by-the-yard you needed to cut your zip to a little bit longer (it's noted in that tip).
What are your thoughts on using cork for the exterior on this bag? Love the pattern, I’ve been side eyeing it for a while and am finally going to try it! And thank you for the tutorials. I really appreciate hearing your rationale behind the options. Drives me nuts , instructions without the reasoning. I’m always wondering why why why?! 😅
Ha, I just went to the FB group page and searched “oxbow cork” and see several people have used it for the bottom, and accent piece, and one person used it for the main, so of course yes, cork can be used! Have you made one with cork?
I am curious as to what kind of machine can handle some of the thicknesses that you are working with? Do most Home brand machines deal with this thickness ? The strapping material looked very thick when you folded it under. I have a mechanical Bernina 1008, I also have a non computerized Bernina that is an 930 electronic . I love both machines , my 1008 is a newer machine . Maybe handles thickness a bit better than my 930. I don’t plan to buy a new machine any time soon . Some of the fabrics with all the added interfacing looks quite hefty . I just might have to modify my outer fabrics and added interfacings. I see that you are using a New Home . I have a computerized New Home embroidery machine that is well over 25 plus years old but have no idea how much thickness it takes. I made bags but they did not have the materials that you are using that many years ago. We have come a long way in 25-30 years. Amazing fabrics. Thank You.
All my patterns are designed to work on a domestic (home) sewing machine. I use a Janome 1600p, but I also have a Janome Memorycraft for taking on sewing trips.
I'm using a cotton canvas with fusible batting for the exterior and cut everything out & fused it with reading to page 3 about quilting it. :( Do you think I'll still be ok without quilting the batting to the exterior? Thank you!
The Regular size would fit better, but it may be too big if it's filled to the max. Hope that helps! Always worth checking if your particular airline has size restrictions listed and compare to the finished size.
Please can I ask if you are left handed? I only ask as I’ve just made my bag and when on my right shoulder the bag opens backwards, which feels strange. I have reviewed the instructions and I did as per your video and booklet. I’ve got the regular size cut out so I’m going to swap the sides around to see if it’s makes a difference. I love the results of the bag.
I am not, but I typically don't open my bag while I'm wearing it (usually packing/unpacking with the bag on my dresser). However, feel free to change it up to suit your needs. :)
Thank you! I used cotton webbing (here it is in my shop: noodle-head.com/collections/hardware-zippers/products/cotton-webbing-1-1-2-wide?variant=43915322294496)
Yes, sorry I forgot to add that link! Here you go: brettunsvillage.com/leather/leather-tools/arch-punches-in-metric-sizes-4mm-to-52mm/ I have the 13mm. I'm sure you can find something similar on amazon perhaps, too.
Hi - I'm getting this pattern today can I just check, on the version you made you said you used 2 layers of 20/80 batting - did you cut both full size or (like you suggested with the alternate material) did you cut the first layer out of the seam allowance? Sorry if you went over this already and thank you for a great pattern and tutorial
Hi, great question! I did not. I rough cut both layers of batting and exterior fabric, quilted them together, and then trimmed the quilted piece to the Main Panel size. Hope that helps! :)
Why does the pattern say to buy Pellon Peltex 72F which is double sided? I can’t fuse it to my base! I guess you’re not fusing it, only stitching it. Is that right?
Hi! I do fuse mine if I'm using a regular canvas or similar fabric. If I'm using a waxed canvas I do not, I only stitch it to keep it in place. Hope that helps!
Hi, I have the pattern also and it is under the “Cutting Instructions” on page 3. It is the bold type, 3rd from the bottom of the list. I’m trying not to say the measurements so there isn’t any copyright issues and also not to get blocked ( don’t know if she would, just being careful)

I love your Oxbow with the pre-quilted fabric from Blackbird. Something like that will be on my list for my next Oxbow. Great videos, as always! 😊👍

You'll do great! :)
GENIUS technique on 90 degree fold with zipper tape! I'm in awe that can always be fussy!
That’s called “the a ruler Method”, I believe it’s copywriter, but it definitely is a great way to deal with ends.
I've never seen anyone draw a line... Makes it so simple!
@@IMOO1896 I just have had so much fuss with the ends of zipper tape. I always get it there but I love this!

Thanks so much for the tutorial! Question--if i use a waxed canvas bottom, do I still iron that piece to the thick bottom interfacing? :)
I would recommend trying on a scrap piece first. However, I typically recommend stitching the waxed canvas to the thick interfacing.

how to you attach the interfacing to the base when using waxed canvas? when you don't want stitching to show like you did on your bags

Sure, that would be pretty!
I found the instructions hey for Handles
I'm using a cotton canvas with fusible batting for the exterior and cut everything out & fused it with reading to page 3 about quilting it. :( Do you think I'll still be ok without quilting the batting to the exterior? Thank you!
Yes, I think since it's a fusible batting (assuming it's a somewhat permanent bond) that it will work!
Do you happen to know which size bag is best suitable for tucking under the seat on airplane travel..? Thx

I haven't on the Oxbow, only because I don't keep much of it on hand. You could definitely use the heavy for the base I think.

Hi, you don't have to quilt the main panels if you're using canvas. You will want to use the recommended interfacings though.
What weight waterproof canvas are you using for the inside?
300d light weight :)
