@@TheLochs What he means is the way how Mateus chooses notes in his melodies/harmonies. He basically creates melodies/harmonies that are close with each other by using inversions and/or common tones.
@@MrAwesomeSaucesome Every note in a chord should have a place to go. Typically they move by steps, but sometimes small leaps are required (bass can do whatever you want it to, though.) Knowing this allows you to make any chord progression sound good and flow together.
Love the little jokey references tossed in - "like Wayne Rooney in a retirement home" (I had to look him up!). Very cool economy picking patterns; I struggle with that but will try to work on it - it looks so, well, economical!
Thxs this lick is simple but very hard when played fast it's one of the pentatonic licks that has been tricky when I play it using alternate picking its now 3 weeks practicing it but hopefully I will be able to play it fast
@@johnnathancordy good grief!! That's freaking amazing!! Well done. I hope to be able to do that one day. Thanks for all these videos. They help so many of us :)
John your playing is always so decidedly tasty. I never get tired of your intros.
Agree 100% my friend!
I love the balance of your channel. The gear you demo, the tips for playing and the intros you play. 🙌🏻
Wow Luther Vandross! Nice one John. Hopefully some of you young folks will check him out. As usual brilliant lesson, Thank-you.
While I like Mateus Asato's pentatonic shredding, it's his voice leading that I'm in love with
Can you explain further on this? Do you mean when he improvises?
Would you mind elaborating? I'm not super clear on what voice leading means :)

Man that improv on the beginning... holymoly! That's some sick tasty lines
Eric Johnson ending at 3:58 is like signature JNC now. Every video has it. Like Chris buck and his whole to whole half to whole bend.

It's never too much to subscribe to a good channel like this !
Even Petrucci uses something similar in Erotomania, so this is a must in our bag of tricks haha Thank you Sir!

As fantastic as this video is, the "noisy affair" being compared to Wayne Rooney in a care home is possibly the most genius thing I've ever heard! 🤣
Hey John, been watching your videos for a while, you always sound great regardless what you using, amazing phrasing really
As usual, great intro John. A bit of Luther too !!!
Hope all is well with you John! Thank you for the great insight! You're the goat!🐐🎵💤🎸
I know who I would hire to do GIGS with, John CORDY !!!!!! exemplifies GOOD TASTE. HE just HAS that CERTAIN TOUCH, well That I LOVE!!!!
Tasty intro as usual! Thanks for the video mate, very interesting
Been working on this idea for a while now. Ascending sounds great as well. I like your take on it - moving horizontally between 'boxes'. Great lesson.
Great Lesson, this helps to pull everything together!
Great lesson, starting to explore three note per string pentatonics, it opens up to a lot of new cool ideas
Awesome! 💯
Your playing seems to be getting better, including your Backing...😊
Incredible playing and well explained. Earned a sub from me.
Pentatonic maybe easy for running up and down, but it's extremely hard for shredding and at the same time sounds so cool. Check out Eric Johnson!
How do you get that nice sound? What effects are you using?
Any advice on someone that just started using his pinky for pentatonics ? This little finger is too slow !
Thanks. Nice. Going to use this at my next open mic.🎸👍🍻
Funny I was truefire subscriber for many years but I didnt see this product before what title was it parked under please?
Man this is cool. Thanks! Also, do you improvise over the songs at the beginning??
Yeh! Every day!

Well. looks like it's lick stealin time again
Great tone, what guitar is that?
Intro sounds like Never Too Much by Luther Vandross
Thank you
NEVER TOO MUCH
2:47 such an elegant diss of the rampant retrosexual! 😂
If I could play like you I would never put my guitar down!
If you never put your guitar down you may could sound like him
this is mega!
Wow what's that intro tune? I could Never have Too Much of it 😂
I'm sorry, not sorry.
Great playing as always
I love your lesson very much!! But you really need to listen to some Randy Rhoads solo's and put kick ass attitude into the mix!
Wayne Rooney in a retirement home! :D
😃😃😃
To play like Asato you also need to be very proficient when it comes to comp in Logic.
Why?
Lol Wayne Rooney in a retirement home 🤣🤣🤣
First!
Nope me. Lol

Good sound but no feelings
