Hey Gaming Pixel, excellent video. I'll offer my feedback as the video goes. The prosthetics were released as COBRA on accident. They were named that as a placeholder because LadyCobra made them. You're correct that there were some cyberpunk-type influences that snuck through with Xmas 2023 - these items were planned and modeled before I knew what they were based on, and by that point we already had everything coded, modeled, etc. We've had a discussion as a team about referencing other game content, I feel confident we will do better on that in the future. Namely glowing bits - I know people like them but I've always believed glowing bits on anything combat-related is a recipe for disaster. To be fair, I did not say anything about this to the dev team until after xmas, again that's on me. But if you look at ATF5 's laser guns for example, you can see where I feel future scifi tech in ATF should be: bulky, functional, zero glowing bits, minimal, etc. About box contents. I'm glad you liked the Brimstone, it was one of my favorites to work on, and I really like the bodykit made by Nik666666. I'm sorry you feel the Riot box wasn't worth it. We try to do themes we think are interesting and include new functionality in each box, but unfortunately some boxes just end up less fun than others. As for your guess that the buzzsaw was designed in part to be able to reuse the Brimstone animations - you're correct. That animation set took me 2 or 3 days to animate, time I didn't feel like I had when we were rushing to get this stuff out so I'd still have time to work on other things before Summer Rain. At the very least, I'm proud of how the dual-wielding system turned out for that box, and it's one of the few features in ATF8 that genuinely made me happy because the community seemed to like it, being a free addition and all. The riot shield being at such a low level was us perhaps being overly cautious. I understand some people are upset it's a little weak, but at the time we were all pretty worried there was gonna be a community riot if we made it too strong. We're always riding a fine line between people rioting about items being not worth the money for their weaknesses and people rioting about items being FOMO/pay-to-win in strength. I'm a person with normal emotions, it wears down on me when people are upset with my work as a result of trying to balance the income/business side of things with the fact that this IS still my hobby and my passion. About the super box. The Smith ending up in a weird state - I'm gonna be honest I completely forgot what the dev discussions were about 8 or 9 months ago now. I'll have to get back to you on that. The minigun? I understand why you don't like it. All these minigun-like tools not having "firing animations" is more of an oversight on my part than being lazy. I just figured you're already sort of 'bracing' the gun anyway in that stance and individual round 'kick' on a gun being braced like that is visually negligible anyway. Maybe at some point I'll come back around and add that kinda thing. The minigun is anything but lazy otherwise, I'd never done a minigun tool before and I'm actually pretty proud of how it turned out. The sound design, animations, functionality, it even being able to fire without tanking frame rate, all of it. Perhaps that's part of the problem, I was a little excited about challenging myself in that way that I didn't spend more time considering the RP implications. As for your observations on power creep... it's an interesting topic. I've kinda become at peace with the fact that power creep just happens. It's a bit of a multi-faceted process. The community TENDS towards wanting to become stronger on an individual or faction level, it's just your typical arms race - pride, ego, etc. Mods aren't immune. And as a developer, I have to be careful about that thin line from earlier - selling things too weak means people will feel ripped off and might not even buy things in the future. Without income, I can't make my dream job work anymore. And it ain't just me doing this full-time anymore, now I have other developers who are full-time or part time doing this work who I need to think about. If we sell things too powerful, people will feel the game is pay-to-win and we'll have some level of power creep, but at the very least we'll have raised enough funds to continue. Making items that perfectly fit in between those two extremes is exceedingly difficult; we'll always make mistakes, so if we ever feel doubtful it's better to slightly lean toward the latter than the former. The silver lining around all of the inevitable power creep is that: the series raises funding for more updates, and most importantly, eventually this power creep and status quo will all be washed away by the tide of the next game in the series. So again, I try to keep it from snowballing in an insane way, but I've kinda come to terms with some level of power creep. Things crescendo, climax, and then are reborn. I doubt most people in the community see things this way because statistically, for most of them ATF7 or 8 was their first ATF. But after doing this for 13 years, I see a beauty in the cycle. I hope that at the end of it all, under the weight of a world that would rather see your hobby rot and die if it doesn't make money for some giant corporate structure, I'll have provided some way for lost/lonely young people (like I was) to make good memories and mentally escape from whatever they're facing, at least for a while. Overall, great video. Well thought-out feedback for the most part. But also... when are we getting the next Halloween 2023 parts???
16:10 LOL Good video, I definitely would like to see more niche gift ideas like the riot box turned into gamepasses year-round again, it cuts the load off of the devs trying to pump out boxes for christmas. I'm definitely curious to see how that discussion on mutants turns out.
Hey, MushreemMan here. Thanks for shouting out the retrospective video. I agree with a lot of the points in this video, and it'd be cool watching you talk about the "can of worms" that is tech in ATF8. Solid video, I only bought a few christmas boxes so it's cool to see what was in the other ones.
Buying every christmas box was the worst financial decision I have ever made. This is only one of the reasons I've decided to leave ATF forever. I wonder why I ever thought that buying into the FOMO was a good idea. ATF is a circus and I am one of the clowns.
This is an awesome video, I feel like the next superbox needs to balance out the game, with a muscle car type thing (highway interceptor from atf7 like stated in the video) with a bunch of guns instead of 2 large, clunky, overpowered and unusable guns
Another problem with the minigun is actually using it in CRP and i don't know if this is 100% true but I think there's a 3 shot rule... you can see where the problem is if you even decide to use the minigun in CRP...
I got duped out of the technofreak box, which has the cobra blades (legit something I have been wanting for a while and is now restricted) for a fucking shield I will never use because of how weak it is... God damn it...

Yeah this christmas totally flopped Especially during the part they barely show any sneakpeeks about the super gift or the steel gift, they never said they would add a minigun to the game, or explosives, i didn’t expect the part they retextured the ALVMS and stuffed into the super gift, however the caravan truly saved the box, but not entirely, plus the only prop is another bunker, and it doesn’t match the super gift theme. As someone who bought the steel gift, i feel like i wasted money, the previous christmas gift of firepower was more worth it than this one, the riot shield does literally nothing, everybody in a roleplay uses strong guns, it’s only good for USRF, but they forbid the use of riot shields in the facility, a huge L The fact they only copy and pasted the old guns in ancient warfare gift and made insurgent gift more reliable was also a reason why this christmas flopped, i bought ancient warfare thinking the insurgent box would come an AKM or another shotgun, that’s because in the previous christmas the iron gift gave an 8 gauge and a smg, the apex gift had plenty attachments and good guns Now we wait for the omega and this years christmas
You absoloutely should, my breaking point was the decrease in age rating to 9+, it become clear at that point that Chad only cares about money and he's completely okay with exposing children to extreme content and getting them to spend mummy's credit card on next year's superbox (which will contain a nuclear warhead that crashes the server). Once I saw that I realised its not even worth trying anymore, the community has become too uncreative to make anything that isn't a reference to whatever show came out this week and thay Chad's greed will never end.
