People forget that Splatoon is absolutely massive in Japan; it rivals Pokémon in popularity (you know, Pokémon, the largest franchise in the history of the world) - personally I think splatoon 4 is going to come a lot sooner than people think, possibly already announced by this time next year for the new console.

It would be borderline idiotic to make splatoon content JP exclusives like they did with some of their first consoles and still mother 3 ): I hope they make it so that you can play the story modes of past splatoon games with the original specials and maybe the squid roll/surge

I doubt it'll be one of the first things released for the new console, since Animal Crossing was such a hit I expect that to be the first game they do. Splatoon's 4th game will probably come after that. (For anyone who doesn't know, the same dev team makes the Animal Crossing series and the Splatoon series, and if you look at the gaps between games, you can see that both Splatoon and Splatoon 2 were produced between New Leaf and New Horizons, and Splatoon 3 was released shortly after New Horizons stopped receiving updates. There's a little overlap but the focus tends to be on one series.)
It's not even about the money for nintendo. Proof of that is emio, they just invested in making this game for a franchise that's been sleeping for 30 years knowing it's not going to sell too much, that's a niche gamem. They actually love making games and care for their products and clients.
I would totally love an alternative genre splatoon game, maybe a game based nearly entirely within an expansive single player campaign and an open world, imagine travelling across the wild splatlands hunting down enemy camps to reclaim zapfish or whatever youd do in the game, like breath of the wild but with splatoon traversal and combat mechanics, maybe we could get a closer look at the melee style of weapons, or a legends arceus style game where we see the past of the octarian and inkling war
But ya know i still wished they had added more hair style varieties for Octolings, like it would be cool if they had the enemy octarian hairstyle, switching between the long or shorter tentacle haircut they had in the first Splatoon. or having the option to change your inklings or octolings eye type as a new feature to make your character more unique.
Honestly, I was starting to wonder if we were in for a full on Splatoon hairdresser option, where essentially you can patch a hairstyle together from 4 primary areas of the head to mix and match the tentacle styles, or choose from the old defaults. (Since most styles consistently have a set amount of tentacles per species already, 6 for inklings, 4 for octolings) Or finally just a long ponytail option, how don't we have one yet??
I'd like to be able to choose what fringe (or no fringe) that you want like with the eyebrows. I don't think it would mess with gear too much and would be a nice option.

Yeah, yk it’s funny I thought about that issue specifically with animal crossing too. I’m not a fan of Nintendo releasing an unfinished game with the promise of “monthly updates” in which it’s just bug fixes. Hopefully the switch 2 era will be a little better

My hunch for Nintendo for Switch 2 and Splatoon would at first be a Trilogy game. Sploon3+Side Order already has all three game hubs, the Trilogy-Deluxe game can just play all 3 versions via "Memverse VR", with Sploon2 + Sploon3 on Switch 2 being cross-play compat with OG versions on OG Switch and will be a way to keep Sploon1 alive. Will also be able to relive Octo Expansion, which would be nice I guess.
More Splatoon is completely inevitable at this point. Nintendo acknowledges that it’s one of its biggest franchises in modern day. Wondering whether or not it will be on upcoming consoles going forward is like wondering whether or not Mario Kart will be on upcoming consoles.

Idea, Turn based strategy game, squidbeak splatoon. You start the game with Cap 3, and slowly gain every agent and idol throughout the missions, each having unique gimmicks and abilities (cap 3 has leader buffs, 4 has dynamic weaponry, 8 has a palette or memcake mechanic, neo 3 has Sammonid abilities, the sisters have inkantations, off the hook have both the voice and the tech and the only one i cant 100 work out a plan for is deepcut, maybe a scrap mechanic or something)
Nintendo has said this is the end of the trilogy, so the current storyline is probably over and the next game will most likely be very different from the previous games and follow new characters entirely.
I modded my Wii u with aroma and downloaded inkay (pretendo), that revives the servers so you can play splatoon again Oh yeah and my beloved squid jump
There will definitely be more games, though I worry the quality may dip soon if the dev team keep half-assing content like they're doing now. I notice most of 3's (and Animal Crossing) content updates have the pattern of being acceptable, but more could've been done or polished. I hope they realize the seasonal update model isn't a hit with the fanbases.
definitely, especially when it comes to the dlc for this game. I enjoyed side order, but for the dlc to presumably take the time and effort away from the base-game’s content additions is terrible, especially since, well, side order is PAID dlc. If this speculation is true (which it most likely is), even though side order was good, it was not good enough to justify the decreasing amount of content each update, particularly when it comes to weapon kits, we’ll just have to see for the next season or any other announcements to whether side order really was the reason behind the bare minimum in the new updates or if the devs have no idea what they are doing
It’s been confirmed that the main story of splatoon is finished, but not splatoon as a whole.. very interesting to think about what they could do next, like.. new species ? Maybe we play as the next dominant species in the next game, like different designed inklings & octolings with new characters and storyline! I really hope it stays true to splatoon’s many aesthetics tho, I’ll be so mad if they ruin it😭

Imagine if we get a game where we play as agent 4 again but we discover the octolings training ground by accident and the goal is to get out stealthily because the octolings somehow got mind controlled into going against DJ Octavio again and he is the one helping us escape and he gives us technology that allows us to change colours and give off the scent of an octoling. Unrealistic but it seems cool

I also just want to mention that out of all the attempts in the previous years, Splatoon captured „youth culture“ *BY FAR* the best ! As a teen myself I am baffled at how they managed to portray it without being absolutely awful and cringy.

i think catalogs will continue but will work as those catalogs after you finish the main ones like each 10 levels you pass you get a random reward then once you completed it harmony gives another catalog then repeat
Bro it's been ages since I've played splatoon. I used to play the first game, and now there's a third game, and it's almost at end of life? Man I'm old
Splatoon 4 is said to have an entirely different story arc, and I think I know exactly what it could be. The loose ends of Arc 1 are tied up; Tartar is destroyed; Grizz is incapactated and has realised that the time of mammals has passed; Octavio has been defeated and decided to swallow his ego to save the world, with Cuttlefish's new state settling his (rather pointless by now) 100 year old grudge. But there's one last thing - the Memverse and its development by Octoling engineers who wanted things to stay the same. So here's my pitch for the next story - Octavio, what with 3 world ending threats in the span of a few years and the fact that the Octarians are in no place to defeat the Inklings, decides to settle things once and for all and sign a treaty in order to begin merging the two civilisations. The deal goes both ways - the Octarians have access to electricity, and the Inklings get a new workforce in the form of Octotroopers (who, with their limited sentience, are content as long as they have food, rest and something to do) as well as Octavio's new startup company, OctoTech(tm). Of course, this merger will take a while, so it is decided that the Octarians should construct a new theme park just outside Inkopolis, where Wahoo World used to be (they went bust :/) to show the world what they can bring - thus, Octopia II is born (the first one was in a splat2 level). Thus, in the wait between 3 and 4, a mobile tycoon game is released where you play as an Octoling helping your boss (as well as other characters every so often) to co-ordinate the construction and management of Octopia II. The theme park is a perfect fusion of Octarian and Inkling architecture, making use of the levitation tech; in particular, the spinning red tentacle speakers seen in Octavio's Splat 1 fight - these light up like in the final phase of that fight during Splatfests. Splatoon 4's Plaza is indeed Octopia II, and the news this time around is run by a new collaboration group - Onward; formed of Callie and Marie, Acht and DJ Octavio, the former two serving double duty by keeping an eye on Octavio. The story of S4 starts when the player wanders into a training area by accident, coming across a mysterious mask-wearing character known as the Weapons Specialist, a member of the Squidbeak Splatoon who was 'specifically trained by Sheldon'. They chat to the player (the player can choose dialogue options now, they don't really affect anything) and teach them the basics before taking them to the new plaza. There, the two see a news broadcast which reveals the Great Zapfish has been stolen again, and WS has the player follow them to the new story area and enlists them as Agent 4. where's the old one? Take a guess - this is meant to be a minor twist revealed later, but it turns out WS *is* the old Four, but they took a senior role like the Captain to focus on their studies. Anyway, suspicion falls on Octavio again and so he is now taking refuge at the Squidbeak base until this blows over. In reality, it was stolen by a group of Octarians who wanted to keep things as they were - formed out of those who were scared of the changes, still had vendettas against Inklings etc - in order to make Octavio seem guilty, and so the new Agent 4 must find the Zapfish to prove Octavio's innocence.
@@franz.franciscoit doesn't hurt to be polite. anyway, i really love the idea of agent 4 being a weapons specialist alongside captain 3. it's fun. they have a distinctly punk, chaotic personality and the added weapon versatility mechanics that debuted with their campaign could carry over in interesting ways.
I think it’d be fun to have an alternate timeline kinda story, like what would it be like if Order won? Would Pearl do something revolving around chaos the same way Marina did with order in the Side Order DLC? Or what if Marie won instead of Callie? How would that affect the events of Splatoon 2’s story?? Alternate timeline stuff would be interesting to see
I honestly hope we get a like a splatoon 4 that like add another playable species. And of course they can figure out some lore way to explain how they can join in on turf wars, but honestly who would really care that much about that because it's a weird fantasy world where humans are all gone and octopus and squids are walking around on two legs. Lol

Splatoon has definitely become a secondary pillar of Nintendo’s lineup, like Kirby or Animal Crossing. We’re definitely getting a new game for the next console and maybe a spinoff title too. It is not going the way of Star Fox or F-Zero yet.
I personally didn't get into Splatoon 3 as much as I did with Splatoon 1 and 2, but I think that's because of how they released the game with not enough content. It made me pretty mad when I couldn't even use some of the new features like table turf online
I feel like we'll probably get splatoon 4 with the next console but will also probably get an anime cuz there is a splatoon manga and it would be cool if either the manga got an anime adaption or if the series gets its own original anime with an original story within the universe.
It makes me sad cuz I wanted to be part of the splatoon community since it was first launched from the wii u, and I was only able to join right when the splatoon 3 came out 😢😢😢
Ngl an open world Splatoon game would be kinda cool. I definitely want to explore more of the maps and locations in a more in-depth way, and it might be kinda neat.
Lets not forget how splatoon 1's servers shutting down Had an impact on a lot of people. The fact that this many people played the first game means that splatoon 2 and 3 will also have similarly large player bases for a very long time.
Splatoon 1 is still being playable even without servers: you can play the single-player campaing as Agent 003, you can use the 1 vs 1 battle with the second controller, play Amiibo challenges, etc. Anyway, if you really want bring back netplay, then you need to use the Pretendo network via SSL hack with DNS servers or via Aroma module on the hacked Wii U.
Ngl, Splatoon 1 basically started my “Let’s start playing Nintendo games” all together, and will always have a special place in my heart, so I hope the Splatoon series continues 🙏

Most likely yes. The Splatoon 3 World Championship never announced anything because it was delayed and even if it wasn't, the announcement was proably going to be related to Side Order anyway. If there isn't a Nintendo direct happening this summer or the Direct doesn't include Splatoon 3, the game is cooked.

Fun fact you can still play Splatoon 1 on a modded Wii U with the Pretendo network server it takes only about like 15 minutes to set up and you can find video teaching you how easily
Like I said I’m seeing a pattern with 3 games splatoon 2 was only 2 years old before splatoon 2 came out and we had splatoon 2 up until 2022 so I’m pretty convinced that we are getting a new game on the new console release
Normally I’m not a huge fan of people datamining content that the devs are trying to keep hidden, but there is a bit of a rumor hidden in the files that I want to bring up. Unfinished code for several entire new main weapons was discovered, more than have ever been released in one season. This could point to an extension for the content cycle, further reinforced by the fact that with the current pace of weapon kit releases, we will barely even make two kits per weapon, not the three some weapons had in Splatoon 2. Even if we don’t get a content extension, I doubt a fourth Splatoon entry will be a launch or early title for the next console, especially considering how long the time between the end of Splatoon 2’s content cycle and theannouncement of Splatoon 3 was.
I won't be surprised it's die. 1) no new maps. They just use the same map in splatoon 2. They don't even bother add new maps 2) unbalanced team. Teaming up with players that are new to this game are a pain. Like carrying the team. 3) lack on outfit and hair style. Trying to make ur character look beautiful or cool. 4) quiting or bad connections. Even though ur internet is good. Game itself having problems connecting with others. Players quit before the match started because they don't like the weapons the players has. players quit on purpose knowing there are certain time that the match still continue even if one or more players quit. It's makes players annoying that they are so close to winning and lose in the end. 5) there are no ties, either over time or the team got the point first is the winner. They want to avoid ties.
it’s possible that splatoon might be over, what with such a satisfying end to the trilogy, but there’s so many artistic and creative decisions that the developers didn’t use, so it makes it hard to believe that they would just drop it. fans in both japan and america especially would be upset and possibly enraged, especially when you remember that they literally have art books with thousands of art concepts for hair and clothes designs. to be honest, they could also add another new race, like sea bunnies but in the form of humans just like inklings. they could take inspiration from fan made idols and concepts. they could expand on more races in-universe. hell, they could make a splatoon game specifically (or at least mainly) about agent 8 and how they mature over time. they could add apartments instead of lockers, they could add a bunch more world building features alongside the main aspect of the game. they don’t have to completely switch up the style of splatoon-because then it’ll turn into another animal crossing new horizons situation. but they could add a lot more customization and personality and playable areas to the game, like they did with splatsville. so it’s hard to believe they’ll drop it all, but it is probably the end of an era-the era of agent 3, 4, 8, Squid sisters, off the hook and deep cut.
Ive been stuck on thjs for a while now, the question being "will they end Splatoon or keep going?" Cause if you think about it, three is kinda perfect, but with the "leak" (taking it with a grain of salt) makes me question it a lil more. If they DO make a 4th game, whats gonna happen to say, the Squid Sisters? Chances are 3 is gonna be their last game anyway, so how are they gonna continue it? Itd be hard to replicate what fhey had going on in the story, but at the same time its the Splatoon devs, theyre always gonna find a way to make things work with characters.still, itd be so cool to see a 4th installment. It should be noted that there’s no more GUARANTEED content after 2 years. They could easily do like they did for 2 and have a random splatfest or big run after that
Splatoon is huge in Japan to a point that I’d argue splatoon is now one of Nintendo dos major IP’s next to Mario Zelda and probably AC. AC and splatoon just needing less entries. I simply can’t see it just being gone. It’s a live service game, they get shut down eventually. Plus the switch has a massive install base so its support will likely last well into its successor life. 2&3 has years of server support left. I can’t see 4 not happening well before the switch shuts down. However the fact a splatoon spin off hasn’t really happened yet is really surprising to me. Like a rhythm game is right there.
I think Splatoon should implement redoing splatfests like if they're going to stop adding new content as they did with Splatoon 2 and 1 and soon Splatoon 3 instead of there just no longer ever being a splatfest again they could just reuse the ones they already did and for the copyright problem for their collabs they could just copyright free the collab. This would Breathe new life into Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 1 also with at least from an outsider's perspective Splatoon 1 is on the same engine as splatoon 2 and 3 they can just poured it to the switch or combine all three games into one similarly like how the newest Hitman games did such.
I would love to see a platoon rhythm game, where you play as the various music groups we've seen. Imagine a plot where Kali & Mary have to duel with off the hook.
I highly doubt so as it’s massively popular in Japan and made a lot of money on release- like S3 broke a record temporarily ( only succeeded by Pokemon , which y know is one of the biggest multi media franchises in the world and has been around considerably longer than Splatoon).
Why does it feel like splatoon 3 just came out and now it’s about to end. Like I can’t be the only one who feels like splatoon 2 had a much longer lifespan before it ended
Honestly, if I’m not mistaken, they did say that Splatoon 3 was the end of its saga, meaning the octarians and Squidbeak Splatoon- with that story basically coming to a close, the next game would likely be a completely new story with different characters and perhaps even new species/customization! There would probably be little Easter eggs from past games, but I don’t think any reoccurring characters? Other than that, playstyle would likely be similar except maybe more modes? More challenges? Different mechanics added? More weapon choices? I’m not sure, but we’ll have to see!

More Splatoon is completely inevitable at this point. Nintendo acknowledges that it’s one of its biggest franchises in modern day. Wondering whether or not it will be on upcoming consoles going forward is like wondering whether or not Mario Kart will be on upcoming consoles.
I truely think Splatoon will get a fourth game. It’s not like SSBU where the franchise has come to an “Ultimate” end.

Idea, Turn based strategy game, squidbeak splatoon. You start the game with Cap 3, and slowly gain every agent and idol throughout the missions, each having unique gimmicks and abilities (cap 3 has leader buffs, 4 has dynamic weaponry, 8 has a palette or memcake mechanic, neo 3 has Sammonid abilities, the sisters have inkantations, off the hook have both the voice and the tech and the only one i cant 100 work out a plan for is deepcut, maybe a scrap mechanic or something)
Nintendo has said this is the end of the trilogy, so the current storyline is probably over and the next game will most likely be very different from the previous games and follow new characters entirely.

There will definitely be more games, though I worry the quality may dip soon if the dev team keep half-assing content like they're doing now. I notice most of 3's (and Animal Crossing) content updates have the pattern of being acceptable, but more could've been done or polished. I hope they realize the seasonal update model isn't a hit with the fanbases.

definitely, especially when it comes to the dlc for this game. I enjoyed side order, but for the dlc to presumably take the time and effort away from the base-game’s content additions is terrible, especially since, well, side order is PAID dlc. If this speculation is true (which it most likely is), even though side order was good, it was not good enough to justify the decreasing amount of content each update, particularly when it comes to weapon kits, we’ll just have to see for the next season or any other announcements to whether side order really was the reason behind the bare minimum in the new updates or if the devs have no idea what they are doing
It’s been confirmed that the main story of splatoon is finished, but not splatoon as a whole.. very interesting to think about what they could do next, like.. new species ? Maybe we play as the next dominant species in the next game, like different designed inklings & octolings with new characters and storyline! I really hope it stays true to splatoon’s many aesthetics tho, I’ll be so mad if they ruin it😭

Imagine if we get a game where we play as agent 4 again but we discover the octolings training ground by accident and the goal is to get out stealthily because the octolings somehow got mind controlled into going against DJ Octavio again and he is the one helping us escape and he gives us technology that allows us to change colours and give off the scent of an octoling. Unrealistic but it seems cool

honestly since we have access to the 3 cities, we should have the idols that correspond to that city do the news/level updates.
I also just want to mention that out of all the attempts in the previous years, Splatoon captured „youth culture“ *BY FAR* the best ! As a teen myself I am baffled at how they managed to portray it without being absolutely awful and cringy.

Splatoon 4 is said to have an entirely different story arc, and I think I know exactly what it could be. The loose ends of Arc 1 are tied up; Tartar is destroyed; Grizz is incapactated and has realised that the time of mammals has passed; Octavio has been defeated and decided to swallow his ego to save the world, with Cuttlefish's new state settling his (rather pointless by now) 100 year old grudge. But there's one last thing - the Memverse and its development by Octoling engineers who wanted things to stay the same. So here's my pitch for the next story - Octavio, what with 3 world ending threats in the span of a few years and the fact that the Octarians are in no place to defeat the Inklings, decides to settle things once and for all and sign a treaty in order to begin merging the two civilisations. The deal goes both ways - the Octarians have access to electricity, and the Inklings get a new workforce in the form of Octotroopers (who, with their limited sentience, are content as long as they have food, rest and something to do) as well as Octavio's new startup company, OctoTech(tm). Of course, this merger will take a while, so it is decided that the Octarians should construct a new theme park just outside Inkopolis, where Wahoo World used to be (they went bust :/) to show the world what they can bring - thus, Octopia II is born (the first one was in a splat2 level). Thus, in the wait between 3 and 4, a mobile tycoon game is released where you play as an Octoling helping your boss (as well as other characters every so often) to co-ordinate the construction and management of Octopia II. The theme park is a perfect fusion of Octarian and Inkling architecture, making use of the levitation tech; in particular, the spinning red tentacle speakers seen in Octavio's Splat 1 fight - these light up like in the final phase of that fight during Splatfests. Splatoon 4's Plaza is indeed Octopia II, and the news this time around is run by a new collaboration group - Onward; formed of Callie and Marie, Acht and DJ Octavio, the former two serving double duty by keeping an eye on Octavio. The story of S4 starts when the player wanders into a training area by accident, coming across a mysterious mask-wearing character known as the Weapons Specialist, a member of the Squidbeak Splatoon who was 'specifically trained by Sheldon'. They chat to the player (the player can choose dialogue options now, they don't really affect anything) and teach them the basics before taking them to the new plaza. There, the two see a news broadcast which reveals the Great Zapfish has been stolen again, and WS has the player follow them to the new story area and enlists them as Agent 4. where's the old one? Take a guess - this is meant to be a minor twist revealed later, but it turns out WS *is* the old Four, but they took a senior role like the Captain to focus on their studies. Anyway, suspicion falls on Octavio again and so he is now taking refuge at the Squidbeak base until this blows over. In reality, it was stolen by a group of Octarians who wanted to keep things as they were - formed out of those who were scared of the changes, still had vendettas against Inklings etc - in order to make Octavio seem guilty, and so the new Agent 4 must find the Zapfish to prove Octavio's innocence.

anyway, i really love the idea of agent 4 being a weapons specialist alongside captain 3. it's fun. they have a distinctly punk, chaotic personality and the added weapon versatility mechanics that debuted with their campaign could carry over in interesting ways.
A game based off the great turf war would be great, I think people would love a more darker Splatoon game
I think it’d be fun to have an alternate timeline kinda story, like what would it be like if Order won? Would Pearl do something revolving around chaos the same way Marina did with order in the Side Order DLC? Or what if Marie won instead of Callie? How would that affect the events of Splatoon 2’s story?? Alternate timeline stuff would be interesting to see

Splatoon has definitely become a secondary pillar of Nintendo’s lineup, like Kirby or Animal Crossing. We’re definitely getting a new game for the next console and maybe a spinoff title too. It is not going the way of Star Fox or F-Zero yet.

I personally didn't get into Splatoon 3 as much as I did with Splatoon 1 and 2, but I think that's because of how they released the game with not enough content. It made me pretty mad when I couldn't even use some of the new features like table turf online
I feel like we'll probably get splatoon 4 with the next console but will also probably get an anime cuz there is a splatoon manga and it would be cool if either the manga got an anime adaption or if the series gets its own original anime with an original story within the universe.

Lets not forget how splatoon 1's servers shutting down Had an impact on a lot of people. The fact that this many people played the first game means that splatoon 2 and 3 will also have similarly large player bases for a very long time.
Splatoon 1 is still being playable even without servers: you can play the single-player campaing as Agent 003, you can use the 1 vs 1 battle with the second controller, play Amiibo challenges, etc. Anyway, if you really want bring back netplay, then you need to use the Pretendo network via SSL hack with DNS servers or via Aroma module on the hacked Wii U.
Ngl, Splatoon 1 basically started my “Let’s start playing Nintendo games” all together, and will always have a special place in my heart, so I hope the Splatoon series continues 🙏

Most likely yes. The Splatoon 3 World Championship never announced anything because it was delayed and even if it wasn't, the announcement was proably going to be related to Side Order anyway. If there isn't a Nintendo direct happening this summer or the Direct doesn't include Splatoon 3, the game is cooked.

Normally I’m not a huge fan of people datamining content that the devs are trying to keep hidden, but there is a bit of a rumor hidden in the files that I want to bring up.
Unfinished code for several entire new main weapons was discovered, more than have ever been released in one season. This could point to an extension for the content cycle, further reinforced by the fact that with the current pace of weapon kit releases, we will barely even make two kits per weapon, not the three some weapons had in Splatoon 2.
Even if we don’t get a content extension, I doubt a fourth Splatoon entry will be a launch or early title for the next console, especially considering how long the time between the end of Splatoon 2’s content cycle and theannouncement of Splatoon 3 was.
I won't be surprised it's die.
1) no new maps. They just use the same map in splatoon 2. They don't even bother add new maps
2) unbalanced team. Teaming up with players that are new to this game are a pain. Like carrying the team.
3) lack on outfit and hair style. Trying to make ur character look beautiful or cool.
4) quiting or bad connections. Even though ur internet is good. Game itself having problems connecting with others. Players quit before the match started because they don't like the weapons the players has. players quit on purpose knowing there are certain time that the match still continue even if one or more players quit. It's makes players annoying that they are so close to winning and lose in the end.
5) there are no ties, either over time or the team got the point first is the winner. They want to avoid ties.
it’s possible that splatoon might be over, what with such a satisfying end to the trilogy, but there’s so many artistic and creative decisions that the developers didn’t use, so it makes it hard to believe that they would just drop it. fans in both japan and america especially would be upset and possibly enraged, especially when you remember that they literally have art books with thousands of art concepts for hair and clothes designs. to be honest, they could also add another new race, like sea bunnies but in the form of humans just like inklings. they could take inspiration from fan made idols and concepts. they could expand on more races in-universe. hell, they could make a splatoon game specifically (or at least mainly) about agent 8 and how they mature over time. they could add apartments instead of lockers, they could add a bunch more world building features alongside the main aspect of the game. they don’t have to completely switch up the style of splatoon-because then it’ll turn into another animal crossing new horizons situation. but they could add a lot more customization and personality and playable areas to the game, like they did with splatsville. so it’s hard to believe they’ll drop it all, but it is probably the end of an era-the era of agent 3, 4, 8, Squid sisters, off the hook and deep cut.

On the next console,, they could make a Splatoon one remake with new Maps weapons, and all that stuff updated story

Ive been stuck on thjs for a while now, the question being "will they end Splatoon or keep going?" Cause if you think about it, three is kinda perfect, but with the "leak" (taking it with a grain of salt) makes me question it a lil more.
If they DO make a 4th game, whats gonna happen to say, the Squid Sisters? Chances are 3 is gonna be their last game anyway, so how are they gonna continue it? Itd be hard to replicate what fhey had going on in the story, but at the same time its the Splatoon devs, theyre always gonna find a way to make things work with characters.still, itd be so cool to see a 4th installment.

Splatoon is huge in Japan to a point that I’d argue splatoon is now one of Nintendo dos major IP’s next to Mario Zelda and probably AC. AC and splatoon just needing less entries. I simply can’t see it just being gone. It’s a live service game, they get shut down eventually. Plus the switch has a massive install base so its support will likely last well into its successor life. 2&3 has years of server support left. I can’t see 4 not happening well before the switch shuts down.
However the fact a splatoon spin off hasn’t really happened yet is really surprising to me. Like a rhythm game is right there.
I think Splatoon should implement redoing splatfests like if they're going to stop adding new content as they did with Splatoon 2 and 1 and soon Splatoon 3 instead of there just no longer ever being a splatfest again they could just reuse the ones they already did and for the copyright problem for their collabs they could just copyright free the collab. This would Breathe new life into Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 1 also with at least from an outsider's perspective Splatoon 1 is on the same engine as splatoon 2 and 3 they can just poured it to the switch or combine all three games into one similarly like how the newest Hitman games did such.
I would love to see a platoon rhythm game, where you play as the various music groups we've seen. Imagine a plot where Kali & Mary have to duel with off the hook.

I highly doubt so as it’s massively popular in Japan and made a lot of money on release- like S3 broke a record temporarily ( only succeeded by Pokemon , which y know is one of the biggest multi media franchises in the world and has been around considerably longer than Splatoon).

Honestly, if I’m not mistaken, they did say that Splatoon 3 was the end of its saga, meaning the octarians and Squidbeak Splatoon- with that story basically coming to a close, the next game would likely be a completely new story with different characters and perhaps even new species/customization! There would probably be little Easter eggs from past games, but I don’t think any reoccurring characters? Other than that, playstyle would likely be similar except maybe more modes? More challenges? Different mechanics added? More weapon choices? I’m not sure, but we’ll have to see!
