I've been to one of the Bars he's rescued and they said they were told to act a little, as in argue more and be louder than usual. Its been 10 years since the show aired and its still open.
Right before Covid hit they came to my home town of San Diego and “rescued” an old bar called Jolt’n Joes, transformed into “Gaslamp Social”. The bar didn’t make it and not so much because of Covid but it was already a sinking ship, there was actually a 2nd location in a neighborhood down here called La Mesa but that location shut down years before so it was pretty much already on its way out. I worked and currently still work blocks away from the Jolt’n Joes in downtown San Diego. We knew bar rescue was around because of the production trucks. Once the show and “rescue” was all said and done, a couple of us went over to check out the new bar because we’ve never been to one of his “rescued” bars so we wanted to get some insight on how it all worked. First one of the employees told us that they interviewed the employees choosing who they wanted to be on the show. When the show finally aired I checked to see how much BS I could catch, it did not take long at all. When he did his recon they showed the bar and pointed out how slow it was, they were there around December/January which is well known as the slow season in downtown for a lot of us industry folks. Next he made a comment saying it was difficult to find parking downtown (that part is true, although it’s not that difficult during the slow season, I mean if they could find spots for their production trucks it shouldn’t have been that difficult for his suv) so he did his recon “at the bar across the street” I’m pretty familiar with a lot of the bars in the area and there is no bar across the street from Jolt’n joes, he did his recon at a bar called “star lite” which is in Little Italy basically downtown’s neighbor (a whole bunch of streets away from Jolt’n joes. When then I was actually surprised to see that they didn’t make any mention to the upstairs, when they show the blue print layout of the bars on the show they left out a whole section of the bar out of the show. There’s a second level full of pool tables that was left out of the show…why? Sorry for the huge rant but I’m gonna call it like I see it. It's just that much more genuine that nothing is scripted. Bar Rescue has become one of my favorite shows now, and I really enjoy seeing what he will do to fix it up. 👍
Not scripted doesn't mean not manufactured by producers for better TV though. The producers and crew are there a lot longer than Jon is, and if a bar doesn't have a major issue they can use, they will make one by the time Jon comes.
They came to a bar next to where I live in Arvada Colorado, saw the camera people and even renamed the bar “bar retro” . I don’t think it ever aired but I was exited !
I knew a woman who barteneded at a 'rescue' bar, she said after 2 weeks of over priced gourmet cocktails, all the regulars went back to ordering cheap stuff. Apparently thats a big thing in the show, making super elevated food and drinks that are out of the price range of every day folk
I'm not buying all that. It's a reality show so it is set up to a point. Like on Gordon Ramsay's Hell's Kitchen the producers do things like switch salt with sugar so when Chef Ramsay tastes the food it's gross & he flips out because that makes the show more entertaining. I bet they do the same on Bar Rescue.
I was a regular at Barlow's aka The Comeback bar in Tucker, Ga. He's 100% telling the truth. The ONLY thing that's exaggerated is the behavior of some staff members on camera (they know they're gonna be on TV). But they're real people. I personally know Susan Wood, John, Jamie, Olga, Q, Nikki, and Shayla. It's real folks. And that's why I love the show. Edit: BTW I forgot, actually Jon was going to rescue another bar in Atlanta before the Comeback. The rumor was that the other bar's owners paperwork and licences weren't legit or legal. So they settled on the backup plan, which ended up being The Comeback. 🤷🏾♂️
Big fan of Gordon but his shows are scripted and the restaurants he saves end up bankrupt mostly. Jon's show is authentic and has a very high sucess rate after he leaves like 60% or something
His shows aren't scripted, they are really edited so it shows things that are coincidentaly there. They also peave out things that are important for drama. Thats for Kitchen Nightmares in the U.S. In the UK version it's more to the point and feels less scripted as you say because there is a lot of editing. Hell's Kitchen isn't scripted at all and some chefs on the show have shared their experiences there.
You don’t need a script for the cameras and he doesn’t personally set up the cameras. The production team can feasibly be there for 1-2 days before he gets there to set up equipment.
@@LiveActionLukasthey still know that John is coming they just don’t know when, they could get a good idea from the fact that cameras are being set up but they still don’t know who the recon people are.

The local bar in my town got rescued and my sister and I went to the opening. I have some notes on this not being "scripted". They filmed the big reveal of the new bar 3 maybe 4 times. We waited outside for hours before anyone could come in. You were only allowed to order the specialty drinks they make up for the bar or two different beers. None was allowed to stand at the bar because it would make the bar look slow and inefficient if we were standing waiting for drinks. I will say that the food and drinks were good but there is definitely some scripting going on.
100% there are people on the crew that encourage the worst behavior and manipulate the situation. The last video i saw from this show was them firing one of those cliche lazy drink-on-the-job types, and she immediately fell out of character, started crying, and her response was something like, "you made me do all that for this?" Followed by heavy editing around that entire convo.
He’s not lying when he’s saying it’s “not scripted”. But my buddy’s parents bar was on this show and they said the show told them to be over the top while the show was there. Also my buddy who was a cook at the bar didn’t make the cut of the show because they didn’t think he’d make good tv
That's exactly what I was thinking. Like you set up the cameras they're how can the employees not notice that and not think somethings up? As well as some of employees have microphones to talk and all at times
It's not a surprise he's coming, they just don't know exactly what day. These restaurants call him. The staff know the cameras are there, just not when Jon arrives.
bro he put it on his mother's grave and his daughters life. now idk a lot but i do think taffer is a man of family and he wouldn't say something like that so lightly. for me swearing on your family's name is big.
@Azaan Merchant especially since one of his daughters is prominent in the liquor business. If he faked anything and it was known it would ruin him and his daughter.
If you had no idea who Jon was but you heard him speak about his mother and daughter, that would be enough to know he isn't lying. He cares about his family and he also has a reputation that took many decades to build.

Love John taffer
Love Jon taffer! I watch every week.
You see he got a hat on so you know he capping
I used to watch this and hardcore pawn every Sunday while mom was at church. One of my deep down favorite shows
Big fan of Gordon but his shows are scripted and the restaurants he saves end up bankrupt mostly. Jon's show is authentic and has a very high sucess rate after he leaves like 60% or something
After a year its 80% and after 3 its 60 which is inline with industry trends.
Restaurants are much harder to keep in business
Both are scripted
@@BlackChapters No they aren't. Did you watch the fucking video?
His shows aren't scripted, they are really edited so it shows things that are coincidentaly there. They also peave out things that are important for drama. Thats for Kitchen Nightmares in the U.S. In the UK version it's more to the point and feels less scripted as you say because there is a lot of editing. Hell's Kitchen isn't scripted at all and some chefs on the show have shared their experiences there.
John and his staff are wonderful, no matter who works with him. I love the program. Reality.
Yeah, those camera crews are totally watching live arguments that weren't pre-prepared.
I literally would LOVE to meet Jon Taffer it would be an honor
Then please help me understand how you have cameras set up in every bar
You don’t need a script for the cameras and he doesn’t personally set up the cameras. The production team can feasibly be there for 1-2 days before he gets there to set up equipment.
@@LiveActionLukasthey still know that John is coming they just don’t know when, they could get a good idea from the fact that cameras are being set up but they still don’t know who the recon people are.
@@LiveActionLukashe didn’t say no one knows what he’s doing. They all know who he is, they know what Bar Rescue is. That’s why they told him to go to their bar and help them !
@@LiveActionLukasthe people call John to help them in some episodes you’ll hear the owners actually say “that’s why I called you here” or something like that they know he’s gonna come and they’re aware of the cameras and everything that goes on they just don’t know when John is coming to the bar
@@SuperCaptainFailthats still a set up. Wen he walks in they act like they dont know hes there yet the camera crew is in the bar.
This is literally my favorite show.
My guy love your work keep going.
I just started getting into it and I don’t get how folks thought it was scripted. I freaking love bar rescue for some reason
Trump Taffer 2024
Without Trump.
Bless this man for entertaining me practically every night for an hour or 2 before bed lol
He’s not lying when he’s saying it’s “not scripted”. But my buddy’s parents bar was on this show and they said the show told them to be over the top while the show was there. Also my buddy who was a cook at the bar didn’t make the cut of the show because they didn’t think he’d make good tv
Yeah right. Anyone that swears on their mothers grave and daughters life is a liar.
Speak for yourself bum 😂
And then his own life!
He could have just done that to begin with and left them out of it.
Jerk.
what kind of logic is that lmfao
It's not fake. Watch the fucking video.
yeah new cameras just show up in a bar and no one is suspicious 😂
How did the cameras get put up
I find it hard to believe that nobody sees them. FAKE
They owners know the cameras are their but people forget cameras are their all the time.
That's why I like the show. They don't have to script or fake the show like almost every show does. Go John!
if a guy can fake a murder on youtube in front of millions of ppl, this guy can definitely convince you that this everything was real
bro he put it on his mother's grave and his daughters life. now idk a lot but i do think taffer is a man of family and he wouldn't say something like that so lightly. for me swearing on your family's name is big.
My dad was actually in an episode where one of the episodes were filmed and he said he heard taffer screaming like a madman
I love Bar Rescure and Jon Taffer!!
Really glad this was made since I've always wondered about that
Jon Taffer my favorite restaurant-industry celeb
Wow Jon Taffer is the man ! I need to be come a man like this man and it starts now.
Go John Taffer 😂💪🏽💯🙏🏽🎉
It's not scripted it's just produced. There is, in fact, a difference.
I love bar rescue i have been watching it since the beginning the 1st bar he fixed on the show was in the city i currently live in here in corona California i still remeber it till this day
If it's not scripted, it's because dude is a genius.
Fantastic show. Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer is a legend. Binge watch the show regularly on prime video.
Love Bar Rescue! I wish you could watch full episodes on you tube. It's always mash ups of different episodes.
Jon Taffer is my hero when it comes to business. I would love a chance to train with him regardless of bar, hospitality or what, i feel like he has so much to teach me and ive learned a lot in my 35years but I've made terrible life decisions and I NEED to get my like 15 years back.
He’s amazing I love Jon Taffer
I happen to love the show and hope it goes on. I know of a Bar in Wilmington NC that could use John Taffer to walk in and find out what goes on. The Owner is hardly there and the beer taps need a going over.
i gotta tell you bar rescue is entertaining but his podcast is absolutely lights out. Most people dont even realize he has one.
Nothing is set up but the cameras and mics are always in bars 😂
One of my coworkers worked at a bar than jon rescued. He said Jon is the nicest guy in the world. The tv show is highly edited to show all of the dramatic parts for ratings and views but he actually helps these businesses out a lot
For like the past 2 weeks EVERYDAY getting ready for work, I'll watch a SUPER COMPILATION and LAUGH... GASP... SHAKE MY HEAD... TALK TO THE TV and HOPE FOR THE BEST
Taffer is awesome. I want to shake his hand for everything he's done or tried to do
My family bar had an episode on this show😂
S8 episode 16 doing it for dad on paramount+
Bar Rescue is amazing, Jon Taffer makes Bar Rescue even better
Although they plan ahead that’s for sure. Bottle labels covered or turned so they’re not facing forward, beer taps covered and so on. But great show
I can’t look at Jon without seeing Nick Rochefort’s impression now.
You cant script an bar owner having mushrooms growing in the freezer 😂😂
Always loved bar rescue one of my favorite shows and I love John
