I’ve been focusing on punting for about a year now. Upped my kicks from 25-ish yards to 40 yards from these tips and my first football practice is tomorrow so thank you 🙏
My 9 year old son has a very strong leg, yet he does not really know what he is doing. He just does it. This video and the easy to understand presentation/demonstration is outstanding. It made a lot of sense to both of us, and we will start utilizing these techniques immediately. This is the best tutorial on punting I have seen on YT…8 minutes of pure gold on the subject. Thanks a bunch man.
Bro I used to punt like 50-55 yds and after watching this I now punt like 67 somewhere around there, thanks for the adjustments man, gonna be a good punter being a freshman 🙏
I saw the first one when you make the ball spin. And I always just held the ball with two hands, But I did the spin one and went out side and kicked it like the tutorial and It spined, Thank you for the tips.

I'm a high school junior wanting to try out for football next year. I'm a girl, so us being on the team is frowned upon, and no one has ever done it at our school. My only hope is being a kicker. These lessons have been my saving grace recently.
@@emilybucklew ok so the tips I would best give you is stretch and sprint a LOT that will stretch your leg muscles and hamstrings to kick higher and longer
I'm now 57 and when I was 11 and 12 years old , I studied very closely the punting of future Hall of Fame punter Ray Guy ....... I was able to out punt everyone on my 6th grade football team by a long shot just by technique alone ! Punting is all Technique !
I just love always wanted to punt even though I never tried out or made my high school or middle school football teams but I was just loved how beautiful football punts/kicks looked in the air because how far the distance was and plus when I was playing with a lot of my friends and when we would play at the playgrounds I would be the one punting when we needed someone to be the special teams player on our team and I always thought let me do it plus you don't have to be in the best of shape for punting cuz it doesn't take that much upper body strength and a lot more lower body strength to be able to punt even field goal kick 60 yards or further but yeah I just needed to know how to properly grip the ball cuz I know how to do the follow through to punt the ball but I needed someone to show me how to properly get the right trajectory and distance on it that's all I need. This is pretty fun to watch but TTYL
I was taught to use the seams or the laces to divide the ball in half. look through the top or near side of the ball to split in half. use any seam if the protection is busted. laces up best practice. that is how to get a tight spiral. The rest of the information is good. Drop ball, walk straight through fluent. contact ball kind of at the bottom of leg swing and follow through ball leaves foot about 3/4 of your entire motion. When I was 27 years old punted 68 yards with close to 5 second hang time. It was fun while it lasted. Learned after high school. Hope that helps anyone trying to learn.
This video helped so much! Thank you so much for your help because I want to play Punter next year in Football because it is easy and safe. I’m also kinda short for my age, and this position is very easy for short people!
Thanks for the video. What height/distance is considered excellent in high school football, and the same question for D1 & D2 college football? Thank you so much
An excellent high school punter should be able to punt the ball and average a net punting of around 40 that’s with return yardage etc. College 45 is pretty good avg. but also he ability to punt with control is key being able to put the ball where your coach wants it to be.
Ya I will try to do a video on that. Also, if you haven’t, make sure you check out my video on how to aim field goals and kickoffs because I talk about a few tips in that video as well

Yeap. Excellent video. I have to pass your info on to my sons HS team. Do you have a suggestion with how to approach the coaches without putting them off?
You always want to make sure you put the team first and let them know you are just trying to make the team better as a whole. And by having better kicks the whole team will benefit. Just be careful because some coaches don’t react well
@@cadennovikoff Thank you for the advice. I hope they give me the opportunity to pass on what I learned from your tutorials. Have your agent threaten the Vikings. They need you.
I’m an Australian and I’ve been kicking far since I could walk but haven’t been able to kick a real good spiral. I think I gotta work on my run up so I’ll see how it goes
This really helped.. as i have been dropping the ball straight down... didn't realise that you want it at a slight angle to the inside. Also im in middle school and my punts... qt the most are going around 25 30 yds. Is that good for my age group?
Ok, thx... any tips that i can use to strengthen my leg? And also bc of my much smoother form i am punting 30 35yds or much farther then i used to much more consistently, including prob my highest hangtime However, i am having trouble making the ball turn over, iv tried angling it but even if i have a ridiculously far kick it won't turn over and will spin like im kicking a field goal... any tips to help that? EDIT: after some practice im getting it to turn over a little bit more bc of angling the ball.
Tip #1: Have a look at AFL players kick the ball in Aussie Rules Football. Basically everyone can kick accurately 65+ yards. Like quarterbacks but with their feet. Drop punts way more accurate than torpedo punts.
I’m 13 and pretty big and Idk if this is good I’m not lying or anything I got the ball on the 20 and punted it to the 15 on the other side under pressure can someone tell me how many yards and if that’s good
Probably snapped from about the 30yd line and that is where a punt is measured from so in your case would have been a 55yd punt. At 13 that is very impressive but I would assume that was with bounce and roll not just straight flight distance. TDY sized ball also?
