TYSON FURY: Whether you objectively criticise or inadvertently praise him, you just can't win.

  • Whether he's actually retired or not (and if you think he has, then I've got some used bog-paper you might want to buy), Tyson Fury remains the most divisive character in boxing. There's no doubt he's talked an avalanche of bullshit over the last few years, but let's not let that cloud judgment when it comes to ranking him in the heavyweight top ten. If he fights on, he remains a very serious threat.

    I agree that Fury is likely the second best current heavyweight, but I can't rank him #2 because in the last 2 years he's only beat an ancient Chisora and a debutant Ngannou then lost convincingly twice.

    Fury's Naseem Hamed like style defence fools people into believing he's some kind of defensive master ; he's the ultimate conman both in and out of the ring. If his defence was that good he'd not have been dropped 8 times in his career. He's got a good heart for it hence never stopped but none of his other attributes are top tier. He can't punch , very overrated defence , a flicky weak jab and his gastank , while not a weakness isn't a strength either given how often he clinches (not against Usyk who was more than capable of repelling) to get a breather.

    I can't have him at no.2. Dubois would ragdoll him around the ring and ko him in round 6. Let alone the other contenders.

    I got Fury around number 5 right now, below Usyk, Dubois, AJ and Parker. Dubois arguably beat Usyk, then beat Miller, Hrgovic and AJ. That's a better succession of 3 - 4 wins than Fury ever had in his entire career. Parker beat Wilder and Zhang so he's on a good run right now. AJ beat every shared opponent with Fury in a superior fashion. AJ KO'd Wladimir, Wallin, Ngannou, Johnson and a prime Whyte. Meanwhile Fury only KOd a past prime Whyte. All the others took Fury the distance. The question is, can Fury catch up with AJ or is it too late? I mean when comparing their actual boxing records, surely there's no way to put Fury ahead of AJ as the old era makes way for the new.

    • @winnerwinnerchickendinner-y4w

    • @joestunnerboxing
      @joestunnerboxing  19 дней назад +4

      I've got no problem with arguing Dubois's at two and Parker's at three, but Daniel did not "arguably beat Usyk". He flat-out lost - quit, actually - while Fury and Joshua twice went the distance. Again, this is all subjectivity, but fun to debate.

    • @Gorguruga
      @Gorguruga 19 дней назад

      @@joestunnerboxing That's why it's"arguable". The shot that dropped Usyk has questions surrounding its legality. When seen from different angles there's arguments for it being legal or illegal. A different ref could have justifiably called it a knock down and then we don't know if Usyk beats the count, he spent the first few seconds crawling away in pain. For comparison, on the very same night as Dubois vs Usyk, Jared Anderson fought Rudenko and he was hitting him to the body, often in the exact area Dubois hit Usyk. In that fight the ref, Gary Ritter, called the vast majority of those shots legal and he even counted a knockdown. If Ritter had reffed the Dubois vs Usyk fight, the outcome might have been very different.

    Untruthful, blagging, underhanded and insincere.
    If only he could’ve NOT been a gypo in his approach to literally every deal that came his way. Could have been great
    Its worth mentioning that, only for Joshuas WILLINGNESS to take on all danger and challenge.
    We wouldnt HAVE Usyk right now. Think about it
    If Fury had the belts AJ did in 2021, no WAY would he have faced Usyk
    Thus not letting him into the game
    Was Usyk even Joshuas mando? I cant remember?
    Its actually all Furys doing 😆
    If Fury hadnt have had the trilogy Wilder fight fought Joshua instead.

    I think you make a good argument for Fury being 2nd, saying that I can understand people rating him lower.
    I guess you could say Dubois, Parker, Bakole and Kabayel could beat him, but if you look at their records it's tough to substantiate them definitely beating him. I think in short rating fighters isn't an exact science and rating Fury anywhere from around 2nd to around the 6th is probably pretty close to where he sits. The same can be said for most of the top 6 or 7 guys, except Usyk who until proven otherwise is #1.

  • @ForwardFeedback
    @ForwardFeedback 20 дней назад +2

    Reality is that he's blessed by refs and ringside doctors not to have more losses on his record. McDermott 1 on pts, Cunningham by DQ, Wilder 1 by KO, Wallin by TKO and potentially Ngannou on pts, or at least a draw..... The ref who gave him the W over McDermott had been KO'd by McD's dad when younger so could've held a grudge, how they didn't disqualify his win over Cunningham (only came from holding him in place illegaly) I dont get, anyone else gets dropped like he did vs Wilder 1 gets called off, likewise anyone else with his cuts vs Wallin gets it waved off and Ngannou arguably got another KD.
    Thats all objective observations...he's definitely skilled and knows how to box, and would do well against most HWs, but lord what a lucky career he's had!

    Joe the reason he shouldnt be at no2 is nothing to do with him losing his last 2 to the number 1 ; its the following 6 facts (not reasons).
    1 / Against a 40 year old Klitschko he threw a meagre 371 punches almost all of them jabs at a rate of 1 per 6 seconds.
    2 / His other career highlight was beating a bloke whose best win was and remains Bermayne Stiverne.
    3 / He sustained a cut that required 47 stitches against a journeyman that in almost any other fight would have resulted in him being stopped.
    4 / He was dropped by a man making his pro debut before winning a contentious decision.
    5 / He has been floored 8 times in his career
    6 / Of the widely regarded top 10 in the world (Usyk , Dubois , AJ , Bakole , Kabayel , Parker , Zhang , Hrgovic , Wardley , Itauma) he has fought precisely 1 , resulting in 2 defeats from 2 fights
    These are all FACTS , they are not disputable and off the back of these facts anyone arguing he's the clear 2nd best HW on the planet is very much mistaken.
    As far as who's 2nd I'd have said AJ before he lost to Dubois but now its obviously Dubois not least because of who he's been fighting and beating but I must concede until Turki came a long it was a piss poor era for the sport because none of the big guys have been fighting each other.

    • @joestunnerboxing
      @joestunnerboxing  19 дней назад +1

      This is anything but a "piss poor era for the sport" - quite the contrary - and although I'm with you on Fury's resume being thin and him having ducked many a match-up (God knows I've made enough videos on the subject), it can't be over-looked that he ended the moribund Klitschko era, and beat a huge puncher who was at the time undefeated, both in their back-yards. Those are his only eye-brow raising wins, though Whyte is a reasonable KO, and I wouldn't stick Wallin in the "journeyman" category. This is all subjective, but I'd still pick him to beat most of those your mentioned. I could be wrong, but that's the beauty of this type of debate.

    For the sake of fanboys,lets be objective n only focus on stats n inring stuff..coz everything else is subjective.His biggest achievement = Wlad..one victory..which others have done so its not a Flabs exclusive.Trilogy with idiot deontay..now this was a great watch but if this is supposed to add to career greatness then u have to deem idiot deontay as a great..which is impossible.the 'great' part of the trilogy was Flabs getting up in the first fight.
    2 x champ sm others are too.3 successful defenses..others have done that..a very bad showing against a debut boxer in nganouu..which is embarrassing n lastly 4 retirements.so now weigh this objectively against past fighters n it dsnt look so special.as for 2nd best of his era..he might be..but i cant say unless his era is over n we have the final tallies.n for his era to be over we need idiot deontay n AJ n usyk to be retired too.at best he's 2nd best right now..forget the era n all time stuff..
