I think the footage of the gameplay is important to the appeal of the video and the lack of actual good play to accompany the dialogue hurts the quality.
Tier list matter a lot in fighting games, they define what characters are more useful for the meta. Until smash 4 the it's really important this because only the 8 first characters are viable, playing with any other, no matter how good you are you will be in heavly disvantage against the opponent. Besides, people only hate Melee for being competitve
