The Truth About The Toilet Paper Shortage | All In | MSNBC
Oh my god I can’t believe I’m watching a detailed report on toilet paper.
Me neither but it was RIVETING
The movie "Idiocracy" is coming to pass right before our eyes.
DeadlyDeadlyBeees But also depressing because now I know I am doomed after we finish the last two rolls we have (and they are both half shredded by the cat who thinks toilet paper needs to be killed). I will never find it on my store shelves again.
pretzel cat my cat does that too. He’s a little punk
It’s a hard product to find in my area
It gives the term "We've been wiped-out!" a whole new meaning.
Lol
LMAO !!!!! That was perfect Dan very funny
Thanks for the chuckles ^^
Ba-dump-dump-TSHHH!
*happy flushing noises*
You just had to say it, 😂😂!
This man said his dad came to get 10 rolls of toilet paper ? He's been hording it too then 😂😂😂
Another ? Is why did his dad have to come to him?
I noticed the same thing
I live alone and buy it from Costco when it is in the savings booklet. Not really hoarding if you buy the same for a 2 person household.
That means the man is thinking ahead. I had 120 rolls in December. Hording, no. Thinking ahead. He gave it to his father. So he is also taking care of his family. The problem is not the ppl who think ahead, it is the people who do not.
I do believe some people are hoarding and have a years worth in their house
Ppl who do serious coupon shopping have closets and storage units full of the items we can't find now. They put together "pkgs" of various items including toilet paper, fabric softener, shampoo, dishwashing liquid, household cleaners, etc. and resale them at massive profits and it's legal. Trust me when I tell you they cleaned many toilet paper shelves because they already had the coupons for those items. I've seen them go into a store get $94 worth of products and pay no more than $13 for everything. m I have one friend in Detroit who purchased $127 worth and paid $7.24! I've purchased $83.98 and paid $10.21. That's at one store. Then you go to another store with your coupons and repeat the process. That's how many ppl stocked up and doubled down when this virus hit. They saw this coming. So did I but I no longer coupon. Same goes for the gloves n masks. I haven't been able to find Charmin anywhere!
Yes, but most bought that year's worth a month ago, and likely have as much as they need by now. The persistent emptiness of shelves can't be explained by hoarding alone.
@@wordforger They're buying it to resale is my point. It's not just about what they need at all. Many of them started increasing the amount they purchase two months ago. I know because I also coupon. Yes they absolutely do hoard! I mean to imply the empty shelves were due to them alone but they were a big part of it before stores began limiting the amount you can buy. You can buy coupons in bulk and I've even known couponers who dumpster dive for them. When you can go into a store and purchase $98 worth of stuff and pay less than $15 for it, why wouldn't you? I would still be doing it if I could. But in times like these you couldn't pay me to do that now. Have a great evening.
But the point - which you obviously totally missed - is that the shelves have not been restocked. Did you even watch the video?
@@donmoore7785 they have been restocked, they are just empty in hours. Bad reporting. Call your grocery store, they will tell you. He was making an assumption without bothering to ask.
That’s interesting that the US ran out of paper. When out here in Rome, Italy never did and we are all at home using the toilet. 🤷♀️
ladyday9999 I live in America, GA and people are buying like 8 packs of 12 rolls to 2 or 3 in the household, mix of stupidity and greed.
ladyday9999 yeah it’s crazy. We hear thats one thing that ran out in other countries n ppl went n bought up mass supplies of it. Meanwhile leaving some with hardly any. 🙄🙄
Melissa Reiter another thing Americans are buying up over here your not seeing on the news are 5lb 10lb and 30lb bags of sugar there stripping the store shelves of this stuff.
I proudly announce, that today, I have seen not just one, but two(!) packs of toilet paper (20 rolls), for the first time in 4 weeks!! They were loaded onto a wheeled walker, pushed by a man in his early 30ies... Bless him, I did not have the impression he was pulling a show. I could identify the place where he bought it, of course, I had no money with me. Seriously, why haven't we run out of soap then?? Did people never wash their hands, after using all that toilet paper at work?? Yuck!! :o Also, it is a regional thing, the dumber the people, the less likely you'll find it these days, fact.
@@keikomagazinetv9033 you know what Frenchie I don't want to hear any comments out of a French person's mouth when their leaders wanted to practice human coronavirus testing on Africans in Africa. I am a Native American and African American woman and it disgusts me the colonizing mindset the leaders who are from France continue to expose. I can't wait till Donald Trump is out of office because he has the same racist mindset. And don't tell me you have not heard of this because I can easily show you the video of your leaders talking about testing on Africans to find a way to get rid of the Coronavirus. But once again who's giving us good news about the coronavirus South Korea. So as a Native American I must admit France like America has a lot of racist leaders. The lesson here is that we all have to start stealing more turlet paper from work/school to stock up for emergencies like these.
I feel bad that I came away with the same lesson.
Years ago I was going through some tuff times. It was rough. Barely make it to payday running on empty bad. Toilet paper was not in the budget. I never walked out of the restroom without a good bit extra in my pocket. Girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.

Mojazzz You know the toilet paper hoarding didn't only happen in the U.S., right? I was hearing about it happening in Australia long before it started happening in the U.S.
First of all, if you are talking about the hypocrisy of our federal government, i completely agree. If you are talking about our people, im not convinced we are any worse on average than anywhere else.
Second, how was this your conclusion from the video debunking the hoarding hypothesis? We are low on TP because most people are being responsible citizens and staying home.
The world's most advanced market economy is so advanced that toilet paper is an issue 😂
Frank Nil it is hoarders. There are a lot of people who massively stockpile paper goods when at a good price. When I was the shopper for my household I did. So I would guess a lot of people do. So this explanation is BS.
Toilet paper, unlike many of our other supplies are not stock piled. They are made to order.
Authentic Food Creations 90% of the food at the supermarket is owned by a few companies. The same companies that make toilet paper. If you keep going to the store to look for toilet paper you will keep buying their other products. Do not believe what you’re told.
@@KitchenerLeslie2 sorry if I was impolite - I agree! I am from Europe and the ways we control our food supplies makes African farmers go bankrupt while subsidised European farmers get even richer as they ruin the health of the very employees tending their farms.

I work at a grocery store and from my experience this seems almost 100% a panic buy problem. We ran out in 2 days. No store can get enough to fill that much shelf space in the time it was selling out and every store was tying to order as much as possible. That plus the fact that we didnt get any deliveries for 3 days because there wasn't enough drivers to deliver to all the stores. When we did get the delivers everyone bought the maximum amount they were allowed to and 3 or 4 pallets would go in an hour or 2. No one needed that much. We are more busy than ever so these people clearly weren't stocking up to avoid shopping.

@Dutchhound Bigears The video you're commenting on you mean? lol (don't worry, I had to check too, gets confusing all these different, but similar comment sections in videos here) I don't buy the claims in that story though, there's no real reason that industrial toiletpaper can't be shipped to supermarkets for sale instead of to it's usual destinations right now. ya I agree it was just hoarding and panic buying at the beginning but I still don't understand why its still slow , I went for groceries today and the regular isle was still empty but there was one small display on the end of an isle but it was full and cheap too, im in Canada btw
The reason everyone panic bought in the first place is because they didn't know if we would be allowed to leave our houses. Other countries were on full blown lock down barricaded in their houses. People were just being prepared. On March 1st, I went out and bought 40 rolls. It lasted the whole month. The next time I went shopping, the store was out. I already knew about the stay at home orders weeks before they were made so I made sure I had what I needed for the month.

I used to have disdain for people who are hoarding paper products but if I am interpreting this report correctly, I need to buy a ton of toilet paper because the limited production capability means they will never catch up to demand until everyone goes back to work.
People in one household are also going to stores and splitting up into two to four separate groups to score multiple packages of toilet paper. So even though the store limits it to one per cart etc they still get two, three or four maybe more.
I have to drop my morning deuce at home instead of at work. Unemployment Ruining my TP supply.
Thank you!!! This is great reporting!!
Why dont they companies whose sitting on alot tissue just sell directly to consume, from there warehouses..Problem solve! Or send truck load to main area with the shortage, and sell right out the back of the truck.
Because they are manufacturers not street vendors. They probably supply to a single point for an entire corporation.
It’s weird how there’s no cleaning supplies too like hand sanitizer, Lysol etc it’s almost like they want us to get sick
No, that's more an example of people continuing to panic buy. There are people that have more than enough, that keep buying sanitizer and wipes, just because they are there. You also have people that are hoarding and then selling their stockpile for profit.
WHO : We have a virus that causes respiratory failure.

There’s a great article about how different cultures handled the situation: www.nationalgeographic.com/history/2020/03/what-people-do-before-toilet-paper/
I agree but I also believe people panic and they feel like they have some sort of control by hoarding it.
We had this problem in Australia early on, residential buyers can access commercial supply here through warehouse outlets. They also sold out. People were indeed hoarding and continue to hoard, it’s getting better as they run out of room. I feel it’s more of a real world indication of our mental health here after drought, recession, bushfires, floods and finally Covid.
Interesting fact... Taiwan began in earnest preparation in January and produced 10 million masks a day, testing for the virus, monitored people with the virus and no panic buying and no shortage of toilet paper

So, after all that, the reason is still that people are hoarding..

People think that toilet paper is made abroad and now that Trump closed the borders, they are afraid that they can't get their precious toilet paper so of course they hoard.

Lmao right?
The reason is suppliers aren't hoarding toilet paper.
It was consumer hoarding at first that depleted reserves but now it would seem that supply is being meet below or at demand because toilet paper isn't worth the paper it's made out of. No, that's money that's worthless, toilet paper is worth more than money these days but because they can't/won't raise the price, there's no incentive to increasing supply.

This makes perfect sense as to why they're not making more to restock the shelves. Also I have not seen toilet paper on the shelves in America in over a month. This is surreal. I pray we never have to go through this again in our lifetime.
I had to MAIL toilet paper 🧻 to my elderly relatives in Las Vegas!
Toilet Bowl Poll - Who doesn't hate the TP at work?
Why is nobody else talking about this? That actually makes a not of sense.
At this point in time I would be happy to buy a case of toilet paper from a commercial supplier. Bring that stuff in and put it out on the shelves because I know lots of us would be happy to have it. I don’t care if my paper is quilted or embossed, smiles.
Hard to believe that the most advanced and sophisticated system of distribution and marketing of a household staple can’t “Re-Tool” the product and/or the supply-line in the event of a declared National Disaster? SMH
This was the most interesting report I've heard all day!
Me too and it is such a shame.
@@maryc8552 I saw this last evening & was hoping there would be a video of this impressive investigative journalism. I am not disappointed. Laughter, after all, is the Best Medicine!🤣😂💊🍻
I thought it was a pile of s***
TP Has a long shelf life. It's made in the USA and no need to hoard it. Just emotional comfort.
yeah some people have unusual over use of the bathroom, they need this TP, so ruining it for them is really harmful to everyones sake.
As a grocery store worker I can tell you there is absolutely no toilet paper shortage. This is all panic buying and hoarding! The warehouses have plenty. The problem is people are buying it faster than trucks can deliver it. Do you think it's cost effective for a store to get a semi-truck of nothing but toilet paper? Well, it isn't! Most big grocers only get two to five warehouse trucks a week. Toilet paper is on every one but so are all the other things the store needs.
Before the pandemic, there was already a shortage of drivers, this has compounded the problem. Right now the store I work at has at least 3 pallets of toilet paper in the store. We have finally saturated (no pun intended) our market. Even though this is a smaller community, this took us almost a month. Why? Because people have taken to social media telling their friends and family (and everyone else) where to get certain supplies. Many people see those post and bum rush that particular store, then there is nothing left! This is happening with a lot of basic supplies, not just toilet paper.
Again, there is absolutely no shortage of toilet paper. The problem is one of getting the toilet paper from the warehouses to the stores faster than people can buy it up.
The only toilet paper I have right now is commercial from a restaurant supplier.
This situation makes me really happy that I bought a bidet off Amazon over a year ago.
Dan Witzke Me too!! Best investment ever!!
But then don’t you have to have cloth wipes that will still have fecal matter on it that you have to wash? That’s disgusting. Little squirt of water is not going to do as much as toilet paper followed up with a wet wipe (that I throw away)
It still doesn’t justify the selfish actions of the TP hoarders.
Comercial TP companies will move quickly to residential use if they want to weather the current situation. This goes for anything else as well.
As a PHARMACY CASHIER, I HAD TO REMIND TELL A CUSTOMER THERE WAS A 2 PACKAGE LIMIT. I KNOW IT'S JUST HIM AND HIS WIFE. I'VE SEEN TOO MANY ELDERLY CUSTOMERS leave disappointed without toilet paper. SMH. JUST BUY WHAT YOU NEED. LEAVE THE REST FOR SOMEONE ELSE😷
So the consumer is not hoarding toilet paper, but the stores are simply not stocking the shelves? Should ve against the law.
Bro toilet paper and paper towels are okay.
Please buy your normal amount.
The economy has shut down - you’ll be lucky to eat all year
Haven't been able to find any at my grocery store for the past month
This tp shortage was chaotic more than any war ever
i mean its not that fascinating, it makes sense
Apocalypse 2020:
Sorry guys, you gonna have to sort your own sh!t out... 🤷🏻♂️
😂😂😂
I work as a truck driver supplying a P & G factory that manufactures toilet paper. They have slowed down on their production due to many people being out sick.
There are ways to purchase those giant rolls that they use in public bathrooms.I got a case of 12 on Shoplet for around 60 dollars
I have a family member who works at walmart distribution center, they gave packages of toilet paper to all their employees when this all started.
