I just got home from seeing this played by the Rogue Valley Symphony...The lead work for their three-venue program.
Sitting five rows from the stage and having this soundscape spread in front of you: It. Was. Stunning. My rational mind was asking how could this piece even be imagined...Then I told my rational brain to shut up.
The best you'll be able to do at home is with headphones and your eyes closed -- but give it a shot.

Missy is the greatest composer presently living and working in this milieu that I know of.

This draws back to the cosmological idea of the Harmony of the Spheres, one of the most beautiful ideas in music

I can honestly say I’ve never heard anything quite like this from a live orchestra. Amazing, thank you so much!

Constant tension, punctuated by melody: the release all the more restful. The threat of cacophony in every measure... bravo.
From 7:45-ish culminating at the 8:12 mark... OMG.

What a fantastic piece of work. The attention to detail, the swelling, resonance, dissonance, harmonies - all of it. "For Orbiting Spheres" - what a fantastic name; you can almost picture them coming and going. Awesome performance! I got the pleasure to see the Oklahoma City Philharmonic perform this a few years ago and I'd never heard anything like it.
