  • Roy Keane has reiterated his stance over the horror tackle that ended Alf-Inge Haaland's career by insisting he has "no regrets".
Writing in his first autobiography Keane admitted he set out to injure the Manchester City man on that day in 2001 and the former Manchester United midfielder Song: AGST - Relax (Vlog No Copyright Music)

When Keane got injured it was because HE challanged Haaland. Keane's injury wasn't Haalands fault, it was just a by-product of a rash challenge by Keane in which he did damage to his own ligament whilst trying to foul Haaland. Therefore there was no need for revenge regarding the injury itself. If Kean's reason for revenge is because Haaland shouted something to him while he was on the ground, then I think that is a pathetic and disgraceful reason for trying to break Haaland's leg. Pathetic, disgraceful and completely unjustified. I bet Keane is gutted now that Haaland's son plays for City because every time Keane is a TV pundit for a City game he (and the rest of the Country) will be reminded of what a totally 'shit bag' thing he did. He should be embarrassed for the rest of his life.

I think that was the reason Haaland remonstrated with him in the first place, as it looked at the time that Keane was diving for a penalty. Haaland didn't know he was genuinely injured. It shows a real character flaw in Keane that he'd not only blame somebody for something he did to himself (he injured himself trying to trip Haaland over) but that he also sought 'revenge' for something that trivial. You are missing the point. That just means Keane failed. His intention was to cause injury. You don't blame a player for accidentally causing injury. You blame a player if he did so, or tried to - intentionally.
Keane is such a lowlife that he even brags about it.
Think about it. Keane wants to be such a badass - but when a verbal shower from Alfie three years earlier gets to his mental state to such a degree he needs to cause that injury 3 years later - that tells me he is *actually* rather weak. It's classic how that weakness turns into aggression.

Keane did not end his career. Haaland finished the game and also played half of a Norway friendly four days later before racking up 68 minutes of Leeds' next league game.

Keane definitely ended his career. Haaland never played a full football game after this incident and admitted few years later (when he was already retired) that his knee still hurts. Just because he could continue and play after the incident does not mean the knee was the same again.

@@MultiJejje If Keane 'definitely' ended his career then why didn't Haaland sue him?
