That all sounds completely normal. The "your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements" banner in the Oculus PC app is totally normal. It seems Meta hasn't updated their software to recognize many newer GPU's for quite some time. I've been seeing that with new high-end hardware for at least the last year. That message is shown even when your system far surpasses the minimum requirements. Maybe someday Meta will update whatever hardware library the app is referencing to include all the new hardware that's come out over the past 2 years. Also, Half Life Alyx maxing out VRAM is also totally normal. That's how Valve programmed the game. It'll use however much VRAM you have. I've played it on 8GB cards, it utilizes all 8GB and the game looks and runs great. I've played it on 24GB cards, it utilizes all 24GB and the game looks and runs great. I think it's just caching as much data to the VRAM as it has VRAM available to it so it can quickly retrieve that data as it's needed rather than having to go back to the storage and load it in to the VRAM again. And that low VRAM warning in Alyx, I'm not sure what that's all about. I get that same warning with cards like the 7900XTX that has 24GB of VRAM, so like Meta's app saying your hardware doesn't meet the minimum specifications I think it's just a bug in the game, but nothing to be concerned with.
You're welcome. I'm not able to reply to all comments, but when I see ones I'm able to respond to and offer some help I like to do so. I'm on the west coast so it was only 10pm for me. XD
I'm running the 7800x3d with the 7800xt and it runs VR just fine. I run the quest 3 on pc/vr and my combo runs pretty smooth. I've never had AMD driver issues.
Your reviews are some of the only ones that look at hardware performance in VR and have any depth. Much appreciated. VR is the most demanding use I have for my video card (despite also getting a 4K monitor recently), and the majority of gaming I do. I switched back to Nvidia a couple of weeks ago, due to my experience with Quest 2, Quest 3 and an RX 6600 XT (in comparison to having a GTX 1660 Ti before that). Very happy with the upgrade to a 4070 Ti Super (aside from the price). Performance and compatibility are excellent. It's a shame that AMD doesn't prioritise VR, and that VR game developers and headset manufacturers don't prioritise AMD. I guess that's just the economics of VR being a minority market in gaming and AMD being a minority of the video card install base. Nvidia's RTX and DLSS features aren't yet seeing much support in VR titles (although there's a few excellent exceptions, like No Man's Sky and of course using the UEVR mod), and locally the 7900 XT was about 13% cheaper than my 4070 Ti Super, despite offering about 3-4% better rasterisation performance, so if not for AMD's questionable compatibility and support, the value would be there. I also prefer AMD's driver software in terms of UI/UX, although Nvidia's finally decided to pull their socks up in this regards a couple of days ago. Fact is that my experience with the RX 6600 XT and VR means that to get me to try another AMD card they would need a lot better than a 13% price reduction and 4% improved rasterisation performance. Nor is it any better stepping down to the RX 7800 XT and 4070 Super, where the 4070 Super had about a 7-8% performance advantage and commanded a 21% higher price (although the potential VRAM advantage of 16 vs 12 is more relevant than 20 vs 16). Hard to see this changing unless Nvidia completely drops their bundle.
Not planning to buy this, but more videos of hardware like this' always useful when it comes to getting an idea of how these fare in VR. Last week these dropped to as low as 350$.
Greetings from the Czech Republic (central Europe). Thank you for your great work. I have a first generation Oculus Quest, a Ryzen 5 5600 and a GeForce 1070Ti. I only fly FS2020. Guess I'll have to buy a GeForce RTX 4070, the Radeon graphics drivers don't look good. Thanks again for your great work.
I also experience this hitching in some games with my 7900XTX, the February drivers should be coming soon so let's hope they fix it, as this problem is happening even in flat games, (maybe problems with the shader cache?) sadly AMD treats VR as a low priority so it might get fixed for flat but not VR, hopefully they prove me wrong this time lol. The January drivers are not amazing, they were definitely rushed to finally get FS3/AFMF officially out.
I care because you're the only guy who does updates on RDNA3 VR performance, everyone else just did it for the clicks when 7900 XTX had issues a year ago.
im planning to get amd 7900 xt instead of a 4070 ti super exclusively for gaming and pcvr your videos always help hopefully i dont get to many issues XD
I have the 7900xt and I regret buying it, I can't even LAUNCH a vr game in it without crashing my whole system, let alone play one, I can't wait to get rid of it and get an nvidia card.

PS5 runs on AMD and has VR. It's strange that they don't optimise AMD GPUs for VR. I'm curious if it would work more stable on Linux like Holoiso, ChimeraOS or other distributives. Linux gaming looks interesting after the launch of steam deck, but VR gaming on Linux is even more exciting. Anyway thanks for your work, your channel is really unique.
about that hitching i think its cause of 12gb of vram. cause i have a 1070 ti and i had the some problem untill i turned msaa x 2 off, after that like 50% of the hitching was gone. this was tested in beat saber.
Nice video as always. Great to see stuff covered other channels don't touch upon. Question: @Maraksot78 what card would you prefer for the Quest 3 for running PC games, not too fast ones, but modded, like Skyrim VR with heavy visual enhancements? Is AMD still getting better drivers or would you rather go for nvidia? Any card suggestion except the 4090 would be interesting.
hi have you tried any graphic cards with No mans sky as i have major problems with it and was looking to update my G card PS running a rx6900xt at the moment
Do you think you’ll ever do some amd vr reviews with quest 3 and the 7900 xtx…..since the last few driver updates since their vr fix 23.7.1. I have noticed double image or ghost images offset on all ground scenery….if you upgrade drivers to 24.1.1. And 24.2.1 I see ghosting and or double imaging on all objects and jets etc…..can’t figure it out…..also using open xr….turbo mode…gives a major boost to performance…..I have tried all setting and turning of asw etc….to know avail…..I ended up downgrading to driver 23.7.1 to get rid of the double imaging ghosting in digital combat simulator in vr with meta quest 3…..check it out and let me know….it must be a driver issue with amd?
For Half Life Alex even the 24gb of the 4090 will fill if your running high resolution/high textures. Really gotta run it medium textures if your going for the high resolution on most games.
Also if possible could you add asgard's wrath 1 to your future tests? I assume you must have gotten it for free as well with your purchase of the quest 3, if not no worries.
I just subscribe you.. your VR benchmark with Beat saber is golden to me, which I care the most. so... I was about to buy 7800xt or 7900 GRE but... you said 'hitching' may be caused by AMD driver.. which I agree if you consider their driver history. so.. I am considering paying more $$ to buy 4070 super or whatever 4070 + 16GB VRAM. what do you think ? My main goal is quest 3 for Alyx and beat sabre. I don't care about anything else..
Quest 3 has 120hz on Oculus. Came out few days ago. I think most people would prefer testing on Quest 3. Also, did you have any driver related settings enabled that could cause the hitching, Anti-Lag perhaps? I know recordings can also cause hitching, I imagine you did testing without recordings enabled?
I haven't used my Quest 3 for PC VR in a couple days I'll have to check that. It's just my luck though that as I'm making a video 120Hz isn't an option but as soon as I'm done doing all the testing and start editing then it come available. 😂 Pretty sure I didn't have any settings like that enabled. I would feel pretty dumb if it was something like that. It's not out of the question though as I've done dumb little things like that before. 😅 I sure hope I didn't do anything like that this time though. I try to be as thorough as I know how.
@@Maraksot78 With 24.1.1 AMD's HYPR-RX feature turns on some driver features for specific games, sometimes anti-lag or AFMF will be enabled automatically unless the HYPR-RX profile is changed/disabled (At least that's how I think it works still). I've also seen the same hitching while trying to record my VR gameplay, you could be experiencing the same thing. I had it quite a bit on OBS.
Just double checked the settings in the Radeon control center or whatever it's called... (AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition) and Hyper-RX, Super Resolution, Fluid Motion Frames, Anti-Lag and all those other settings are disabled like I thought they were, so it doesn't look like any of that is the cause of the hitching. I recorded everything directly to the Quest 2 and didn't use OBS or other screen recording software. I record that way so I can capture the ODT performance overlay. You can record it using Oculus Mirror too, but I've found Oculus Mirror uses enough system resources that it effects GPU performance giving me worse results than a GPU is capable of when Oculus Mirror isn't running. Recording directly to the headset gives me the same performance as when I'm playing without recording which is why I do it that way, and usually everything runs fine. I appreciate you reaching out and helping me troubleshoot this though. VR performance has come a long way on Radeon 7000 GPU's since they first launched and they're performing really good now overall. If that hitching problem wasn't there, then I wouldn't have any complaints for sure.
It would be nice to see intel arc A750 vr performance test again now that it’s been a year since arc has came out Maybe drivers and games got better with it?
I have to ask, have you tried the 7900GRE for VR yet? Nvidia prices being so high this generation, i'm thinking of upgrading my GTX 680 to a 7900GRE. And since sometimes i'll play games in VR, i want to be sure that i'm getting a really good upgrade when it comes to VR gaming.
Same hitching problem here. I bought 7900XT for 750€ because 4080 pricing was way too high then (1300€) and ended up with these hitches on Reverb G2 and Q3. Using older radeon drivers odly solved the problem in some games, but introduced bad stutters and some broken geometry anomalies in other titles I like to play (SpaceEngine, Elite dangerous, MSFS 2020). I don't wanna wait for radeon devs to fix these problems as RDNA 3 should be matured arch by now. Hell we're getting RDNA4 next year. So I sold 7900XT at a 150€ loss and got 4070S for the remaining money. I hate ngreedia's market practices, but in the end there is nothing we can do as a consumers when AMD is not good enough or just doesn't care about VR users.
if you can is it possible to see the 7900 GRE performance? because im planning on getting it from my 6700 XT and would rlly apperciate it if u can. Thanks! Or if you can what GPU do you recommend i get from your runs?
Hey, I'm just curious. Would you ever test the rx 7900 GRE? which the performance is in between the 7800 XT and the 7900 XT(on flatscreen). I'm curious how well it performs at VR for being a really good all round budget price to perform its card.
Hi! Thanks for doing this video! Could you please take a look at the performance of AMD cards in VR mods for games like GTA5, RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077? (Mods of Luke Ross)
Performance headroom just means how much system resources are still available for running a game. The more detailed/demanding a game is to run the more calculations your CPU and GPU have to perform to run the game. Since your CPU and GPU can only do so many calculations per second, some games will max out your systems capabilities while others will not. I use the performance headroom graph to help me decide how much to push the settings of a game while still getting a desired frame rate. When there's lots of headroom available I'll turn different game settings up to improve the visual quality until I reach a point I'm either happy with the quality and framerate I'm getting or have reached the best settings I can achieve without adversely effecting the framerate. Depending on the CPU and GPU you're using you can crank the settings all the way up in a game like Beat Saber and there's still performance headroom available. That means your CPU and GPU have no problem running that particular game. Other games like MS Flight Simulator are much more resource intensive so many GPU's I've tested will run out of performance headroom even when the settings are quite low which then adversely effects the framerate. I hope that makes sense and helps.
Same here, I am on a 7900xt and pretty frustrated that I can't even LAUNCH a game, it's an instant crash, for either VR AND for game streaming with moonlight, I think it's an issue with streaming wirelessly, either vr or any other kind of game streaming. I am considering going back to a 6800xt or get a 4070s.
I have a 4090 and 7800X3D and prefer VirtualDesktop over Quest Link and Steam Link. Meta's software is lacking. Try Virtual Desktop with AMD GPUs and I believe you'll have a better experience.
I bought a 6750xt, it was awesome for flat gaming, but complete stuttering mess with vr, I had to use my backup gtx 1080 when playing vr, I ending up selling the 6750xt and buying a rtx 3060ti, the 3060ti works as it should, and actually destroyed the 6750xt in VR benchmarks...conclusion it must be AMD crappy VR drivers. smh @ AMD.
i had a 7900xtx but with the latest driver, steamvr wouldnt even work at all, i had to stay on driver 23.7.2. so i just recently got a 4090, no regrets, so done with radeon
AMD's drivers causing problems? OH NO WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED!? reason #1 why I swapped my AMD 6900xt for a 4090 in my main rig... VR is just better with Nvidia, SOOOOOOOO many less issues. For 2d? yea, AMD wins in the budget arena. I still run my 6900xt in my backup desktop (basically my sons desktop now) If you want 120hz on the Q3, there are options. You want a game that will challenge VR? DCS will eat that shit *alive* As for the hitching/frame drops, Can you test something? VSYNC and FRAME LOCKs, set vsync ON in both game and in control panel, not vsync fast or enhanced, no ultra low latency, none of that nonsense just basic bitch vsync -- just straight good ole vsync, and *if* the game has a frame limiter, try turning that on and setting it to match your set refresh rate. I'd be curious what you results would be.
I got a 7900xtx and with the drivers after 23.7.1 I get weird double image ghosting on all ground objects and air objects….i believe amd did something and messed up the drivers
@@Horner219 Pretty standard for AMD tbh. I say it again, AMD for 2d is fine. They just fucking suck balls at VR, and their encoder is trash compared to NVENC. I moved away from my 6900xt to a 4090. I just couldn't be bothered with all the driver and gaslighting nonsense from "drivers are fine dude" or "FSR is just as guud"
Well, I figured out what the ghosting graphics on dcs was all about….my resolution on quest 3 at 90 htz at 1.3 scaling was too much for 7900xtx to handle….switched to 1.0x at 90htz on oculus app…..now runs fine…..driver 2.7.1 still works better than 24.2.1 …I find the fps drops below 90 fps native on driver 24.2.1….it switches to 45 fps…and then crap ghosting happens….but switching to 23.7.1 driver….it never drops below 90fps native…..and I don’t use any fsr or reprojection ever….just thought you may want to know

Didn't expect a reply, and certainly not at almost 1am EST on a tuesday morning! Thanks a TON! Talk about audience engagement. *Salute*
Great review!
Great video!
Thanks for checking the video out man. 😎👍🏼
Not planning to buy this, but more videos of hardware like this' always useful when it comes to getting an idea of how these fare in VR. Last week these dropped to as low as 350$.
i would love to see you benchmark the 7600xt!
For science and discovery!
Were there any meaningful updates since?
I care because you're the only guy who does updates on RDNA3 VR performance, everyone else just did it for the clicks when 7900 XTX had issues a year ago.
Your vids Help me so mutch
im planning to get amd 7900 xt instead of a 4070 ti super exclusively for gaming and pcvr your videos always help hopefully i dont get to many issues XD
I have the 7900xt and I regret buying it, I can't even LAUNCH a vr game in it without crashing my whole system, let alone play one, I can't wait to get rid of it and get an nvidia card.
@@renanmarcondess strange i ended up getting this video card and pcvr games work perfectly fine, ive played resident evil 7 , subnautica sub zero, contractors pc, remnant 2 uevr mod, crossfire sierra, etc... amazing card no regrets here
@@nor2003 been trying to figure out my issue, I used the same card on 2 different systems and they both ran fine, returned to my main rig and deactivated both pbo and 4g decoding and it seems to be running fine now. What pointed to the gpu was the event viewer always saying that the gpu stopped responding. Hopefully it's fine now, been having this issue for months now.
Good job on the video. Only prob is it makes me want to buy graphics cards lol
Ha ha ha! I love buying graphics cards. They're the funnest part of a PC no question. 😂
This video is the reason I bought it
Can you please do another video on the 6700xt? Please show us some more games at higher settings ❤
Ha! Joke's on you 😛 I watched this video 7700 times
Whoa! 7700 times? That was quick! 😂
This guy made me a graphics snob, you've been warned
Nice Testing! Can you retest with the 24.2.1 drivers? AMD had some issues with the shader cache with causes stuttering in several games.
is there any way you can test the rtx 4060?
about that hitching i think its cause of 12gb of vram. cause i have a 1070 ti and i had the some problem untill i turned msaa x 2 off, after that like 50% of the hitching was gone. this was tested in beat saber.
I need to buy it
hi have you tried any graphic cards with No mans sky as i have major problems with it and was looking to update my G card PS running a rx6900xt at the moment
I’m talking about vr reviews in digital combat simulator with 7900xtx and quest 3
For Half Life Alex even the 24gb of the 4090 will fill if your running high resolution/high textures. Really gotta run it medium textures if your going for the high resolution on most games.
can you try thr 5700xt? covering budget options is really helpful.
I hope someone else noticed the headshots in a row with the bow on saints and sinners
That game is just too much fun! 😄
Pretty sure I didn't have any settings like that enabled.
It would be nice to see intel arc A750 vr performance test again now that it’s been a year since arc has came out
Maybe drivers and games got better with it?
Could your issues be CPU related?
Hey, I'm just curious. Would you ever test the rx 7900 GRE? which the performance is in between the 7800 XT and the 7900 XT(on flatscreen). I'm curious how well it performs at VR for being a really good all round budget price to perform its card.
I’d say Virtual Desktop might of fixed some of this!!
Will you be doing intel battlemage when it comes out
I know im a bit late but I think the hitching might have been the 12gb of vram being used and not having enough vram for that resolution
Not related to the video, but have you seen the news about the PSVR2 finally getting support on PC?
Hi! Thanks for doing this video! Could you please take a look at the performance of AMD cards in VR mods for games like GTA5, RDR2, Cyberpunk 2077? (Mods of Luke Ross)
I have no interest in this card but I watched to support future content. Would love to see modded SkyrimVR added as a test for higher end cards.
So is the rx 7900 xtx good for vr now or should I get a rx7800 xt or a 4080 super?
Please test the 7700xt in VRChat
can you please benchmark the rx 7900 xt it would mean a lot if you did as I'm looking to buy one and want an idea of the performance i will be getting
Airlink freezes for me all the time. It gets worse after time. After 5 minutes it freezes at 5 minutes at a time
Hey can you test the 7600 xt I’m looking to get one for an upgrade for an old workstation pc (i know there’s probably gonna be a bottleneck)
Get a 16GB if you get one. Also does the old workstation support Resizable BAR? I'd also recommend using VirtualDesktop over Quest Link.
Possible to add VRchat to your benchmarks?
I want this card but hope they will update the driver issues
Should i buy 7900 XTX 24 GB or 4080 S 16 GB, is there a flicker, or anyother visual problems with AMD card in VR games
It's the metadrivers that are an issue 8 now know this because I got a psvr2 and now my 7900 xtx runs like hit shit in Vr
If I buy it for rift s I think it’s be a good solution, right?
Dont understand values of "performance headroom": good is high percentage or good is low percentage? Thanks
@@Maraksot78 thanks for the comprehensive answer. Now I understand how to read the graph.
@@Maraksot78Got yourself a sub
I don't have this issue over wifi 6 I found
so its confirmed vr capable
I have had a good vr experience on anything rdna2. I couldn't enjoy it on a 7900 xt though.
Same here, I am on a 7900xt and pretty frustrated that I can't even LAUNCH a game, it's an instant crash, for either VR AND for game streaming with moonlight, I think it's an issue with streaming wirelessly, either vr or any other kind of game streaming. I am considering going back to a 6800xt or get a 4070s.
so n vidia is much better for pc vr right ?
I have a 4090 and 7800X3D and prefer VirtualDesktop over Quest Link and Steam Link. Meta's software is lacking. Try Virtual Desktop with AMD GPUs and I believe you'll have a better experience.
I ASKED
Nvidia is overpriced with its low performance and ram
AMD just sucks with drivers.
with this GPU policies PCVR will never becomes popular
I care
I bought a 6750xt, it was awesome for flat gaming, but complete stuttering mess with vr, I had to use my backup gtx 1080 when playing vr, I ending up selling the 6750xt and buying a rtx 3060ti, the 3060ti works as it should, and actually destroyed the 6750xt in VR benchmarks...conclusion it must be AMD crappy VR drivers. smh @ AMD.
I'm skipping this gen. Perhaps the next generation will tempt me.
Its a shame that amd isnt as good at vr as nvidia
i had a 7900xtx but with the latest driver, steamvr wouldnt even work at all, i had to stay on driver 23.7.2. so i just recently got a 4090, no regrets, so done with radeon
Thanks for spending money on cards just to let us know how they perform on this niche market haha
I still run my 6900xt in my backup desktop (basically my sons desktop now)
If you want 120hz on the Q3, there are options.
You want a game that will challenge VR? DCS will eat that shit *alive*
As for the hitching/frame drops, Can you test something?
Thanks for the information and your honest opinion…..I will buy nvidia for vr from now on
Well, I figured out what the ghosting graphics on dcs was all about….my resolution on quest 3 at 90 htz at 1.3 scaling was too much for 7900xtx to handle….switched to 1.0x at 90htz on oculus app…..now runs fine…..driver 2.7.1 still works better than 24.2.1 …I find the fps drops below 90 fps native on driver 24.2.1….it switches to 45 fps…and then crap ghosting happens….but switching to 23.7.1 driver….it never drops below 90fps native…..and I don’t use any fsr or reprojection ever….just thought you may want to know
@@Horner219 1.0x is pretty shit res though. You should drop to 72hz and go higher res. Also consider fixed foveated rendering.
