      @@TheJamStation oh wow that is a very generous offer and I'm going to take you up on that!! I'll think about it for a day. I have recently become enamored with ZZ Top. It's been great for busking. I've always loved their music but I've never played it. It always seems fun but... it never really peaked my interest to learn it. But when I started actually learning their songs correctly then the magic hit me. There's a lot of little tricks and fun things going on. Gibbons. hybrid picking or down tuning etc. I already play lead with my fingers mostly so hybrid picking was not a huge jump for me. I came across your track when I was just taking a break from playing Jesus just left for Chicago And I just wanted a jam for a while. And boy did I have fun. I'm definitely going to add this to my busking jam tracklist. You know these guys and this kind of music just have to be right in the pocket or it doesn't work. ZZ Top is so good at that. I've been struggling to do one of his riffs on LaGrange at full speed. The first one I know it I just got to keep practicing. I ran across a live track of theirs The only track I've ever heard,, live or not where they don't sound particularly great. They are not in the pocket and they sound like they're on Quaaludes or have the flu They just weren't having a fantastic night. And when I heard him play that lead I realized I'm doing pretty well. I'll get there. It's not even hard for me it's just been painfully slow to get to speed. He actually slowed it down in this instance. The entire song was slow. Normally I'm humbled by the greats but in this instance it just made me feel a little bit better about having my own bad nights! And it reiterated the importance of needing to play in the pocket when playing this kind of blues. And if you want to keep that magic you have you got to learn the songs correctly the way they played them. And then you can add your own style if you want to. At least That's been working for me as I get to know their music more. So far I've learned Cheap Sunglasses La Grange and Jesus just left for Chicago. All have been great additions for busking.

      Okay that didn't take long i have a request. I know there's some backing tracks already but what about an old school Montrose jam track school style backing track like a rock candy style or bad motor scooters or something like that? I think it would be fun. Just an idea. I know that songs have backing tracks already of course these days just about everything does but I don't think there's too many jam tracks in that style or for those songs. Could be fun. And I know somebody just recently put a lesson out for rock candy might generate some other interest.

      @@funkymonkey8174 Agreed, ZZ Top is infinitely cool and Billy Gibbons, although not a flashy player is an awesome blues player - always fantastic tone and feel. Apparently even Jimi Hendrix was a big fan of the young Gibbons before he died! Cheap Sunglasses is great - in fact that whole Deguello album is awesome!

    I'd start with a Gm extended pentatonic scale with embellishments here and there in the BFG style like double stops, string harmonics played at various places on the pickups/neck to get them to ring out. I'd play it on my Les Paul to maximize humbucker bite and use some sort of distortion or fuzz, or some other BFG inspired tone

      @TheJamStation  Год назад

      Hi Andrew, thanks for taking the time to leave such a detailed response, it's great to hear from you and what your approach would be! A distorted Les Paul would definitely give you that harmonic-rich Billy Gibbons tone - feel free to share a video of you improvising over the backing track and would could share it on our facebook or Twitter pages! Take care.
