I think they used the hard version of the game. In the Mario Land DX hack rom of the game there is a hardcore mode with the same amount and placement of the enemies.

Now that’s simething pretty interesting to see supermarioland in NEW SMB style on a wii,especially since there was a homebrew new supermarioland game for the snes wich uses assets from new SMB,wich must have be a dounty task to bring over to the snes,am mean who had ever tout that to be ever possible on snes,but because of that i tout why not just a supermarioland game for the wii with new SMB graphics & sounds and so there we are😁

Pretty good though there are a few things:
First of all, barely any of the enemies from the original are here.
Second, the superball flower still acts like the fire flower.
Finally, none of the bosses are here, except for giant peach for... some reason.
