i've always had difficulty in teaching and explaining HOW to initiate pushing the chest down!! what muscles initiate that movement?? the head?? which is probably not a good idea since it would afffect the streamline position. how does one push the chest down when confronting water as your anchor?? out of the water you simply bend at the waist but in water it seems likea futile effort. or is there a bend at the waist??

Hi coach Mandy! I wish you see my comment. I was just struggling applying the dolphin kick. Now after watching this tutorial many times analyzing every word I found myself doing it smoothly in the pool from the first time 😊😊😊😊 Just as you said "Always the movement is down". This became the keyword for me. Thanks a lot for your advices coach 🙏🙏. By the way I figured something out. In this head-hips-feet cycle according to the order, head and feet almost move together in the same direction upward/ downward. So I make it easier for myself by thinking of them as two group instead of three single elements. Head-feet group motion and hips group motion. So what is your opinion coach?
Hello! I'm glad to hear the tutorial was helpful! While it's great that you found a way that works for you, it's essential to note that the head, hips, and feet are traditionally considered three isolated movements in the dolphin kick for specific biomechanical reasons. Each element contributes to the overall efficiency of the kick. However, individual variations can be effective, and if your technique feels comfortable and produces positive results, that's fantastic! Keep refining your approach, and if you have further questions or insights, feel free to share. Happy swimming! Coach Mandy 😎🙏
When we do dolphin kick at the surface(not inside the water), my coach said to only mechnical movement to be done from core(not the chest or shoulders) and then bend the knees a little, is that right way of dolphin at the surface? please help.

Great video! I was wondering if anyone could tell me why when I try to dolphin kick underwater without fins or a monofin that I just float to the surface almost immediately?
Nice tips, thanks. I would however suggest using fins, preferable light long fins. Since that what I used to learn dolphin kicking just by watching people do it at the pool. Because I think it helps isolate the feet from the rest of the body. Which most beginners struggle to do, because it adds resistance to your feet movement. Plus it gives you a nice push that gives you a sense of achievement. Which also changes in its strength based on how well or bad you're kicking. I don't know how to accurately describe it, it just gives you "flexibility" in your dolphin kicks.
Al-Bader Bu-Hamad yes definitely fins are great for ankle flexibility! I go into detail about fins in one of my other videos. However, it’s good to at least try this without fins first, then add them later if needed. 👍🏼 -Coach M

Hello Ma'am... Hoping to see you on how to swim and maintain underwater while swimming. I really want to learn on how to do it.. Thank you so, so much for your time reading...
Jmo, start with, breath control and proper head placement first. Keep eyes down looking at the bottom of the pool and water level above the ears. Looking up , causes your legs to sink and you end up swimming upwards when you should be swimming downwards. Looking up als0 shortens the spine, and looking downwards lengthens the spine (what we want our spine to do). Part of breath control is staying streamline, so before you get your swim underway, you need to learn the proper way to breathe on the side by turning your head while staying streamline as possible. Don't look up to the ceiling as you do the breath, and keep the bottom side of your turned head in the water (don't lift the head). Many videos out there on freestyle swimming and breathing efficiently. For those with neck issues, try adding a snorkel designed for lap swimming for your breathing. Jmo. Hope it helps.
The best swimmers maximize their propulsion by kicking first down and then up. Working on both movements is equally important if you want to increase eficiency and gain speed.
This is a great drill. But not sure about this order of pressing down: 1 shoulders, 2 hips, 3 feet. The hips are in the down position BEFORE the shoulders press down. When the shoulders press down, the hips move up.
