I found these drills very useful to increase endurance and also to focus on the arms motion. Butterfly stroke is definitely the hardest but once you acquire the technique and you let the body moving in harmony with the water it comes very easy to keep your speed. Endurance is correlated to core and legs strength. Scheduling some workout in the gym will provide a great support to your swimming session.
you guys have the best swimming instructional videos, considering simplicity and production of the video. i would like express you a heartfelt gratitude, thank you!
Greatest butterfly clip I've seen that covers much of what I stumbled on in the past four weeks (after having done badly for years "muscling" the stroke ) I wish I'd seen it years ago (before you uploaded it!) For me, I'd only add emphasis on a firm hip flexion AND extension after recovering the hands to establish a rhythmic stroke. I began to understand the stroke by dividing my pool time into drilling 95% and full stroke 5% . Great JOB!!
All your videos are high quality and really helpful. I learnt my flip turn from your videos. And now I am learning butterfly step by step from your videos. Thanks a lot!
Dear Raul and Uranga from Skills Nt swimming channel. I just improved TWO SECONDS off my best time in 50 free, and FOUR SECONDS in 100m free by watching your videos. Thank u so much for helping me! I also got a lot faster in 100m and 200m butterfly, I dropped FIVE SECONDS off in 100m butterfly and SEVEN SECONDS in 200m butterfly! please do more tutorial videos, thanks a lot! :) :
This definitely works. I couldn't even do the dolphin kick at my first time but I did the stretching + the core workouts that you gave me. After a day or two, I was finally able to do the kick with my hands on my side, and three days after, awhile ago, I was able to do the kick with my arms extended. Really nice!
I invented my own version of butterfly...it's called 'broken butterfly'..... I swim the butterfly but my legs do absolutely nothing and trail behind....like they are both broken.....I do it PERFECTLY!....do I win a prize??
Nice video! The best thing that I like in your videos is that 'you combine swimming as a sport to other sports by combining it with your exercises about mobility and flexibility either and it's a way for other sports like 'Calisthenics' lifting yourself like that on the wall of the pool which is 'so impressive' to me as an athlete and a coach who can understand what you provide and show.🙂 Thx a lot for your efforts and greeting from Egypt!🌊🔥🇪🇬🇪🇬

I see there's 2 ways of executing butterfly catch kick. You kick when you start the catch making the 2 kicks very close in time. But there's people that execute the kick at the end of the catch, making the 2 kicks more separated in time. Which one is correct?
My shoulders don't have the flexibility to do the fly any more, but I do practice the dolphin kick because I need that for coming off the wall. I am wondering if there is any particular reason to practice the kick up side down? I can really see one difference between right side up and up side down, and that is, for some reason, the amplitude/up and down stroke seems to be smaller when upside down, and I can do a much bigger stroke when right side up... No clue as to why. I only swim the up side down way with fins. I do swim right side up with feet and also fins, snorkel, and kick board.
Thank you for all these keys ! I have à question : i Want to cross a 8km lake in butterfly stroke. Do you have a simple program to follow ? Swim 3 times / week slow pace maximum distance for example? Do you think i should spend long distance/Time on Vasa traîner ? Like dry land training ? Thank you for your feed back.
Well, 2 years later, I am trying to remember how to swim the fly.... My lap pal said he would learn my over arm side stroke if I took up the fly again. Funny thing I noticed with the kick, is that there does appear to be a surge kick as Gary Hall Sr. calls it, or a power kick as I call it. It is on the stroke where you breathe. You both use a higher amplitude kick when you breathe, and a less amplitude kick when you are not breathing. My dolphin kick is pretty whimpy....
What my coach says is that after my recovery I glide my arms in the water for a second instead of going into the next stroke but when I try to go straight into the next stroke I get really exhausted and can only do 75m? Do you know why?
May I ask if my beginner drill is of use for others, who have never had the chance to learn butterfly or dolphin kick at young age and where I can go from there as these shown drills throw me into pure embarrassment😂. I am very comfortable with breast stroke, so I add on a dolphin kick after the breaststroke kick, arms stay extended and head stays under water and actually goes a bit deeper when I try initiate the dophin kick. I have no one who can check what the heck I am doing. It feels like a dophin kick and the butt seems to come up above water level befor my legs kick and sometimes I think my feet splash a little. Then I pull, come up with head, dive in, kick, go into glide and try again. Within 50m my belly is sore and I pant like after 500m breaststroke.... So I guess my core is still too weak, despite being so much better than a year ago when i started swimming regularly ? Now, if I try dophin kick only, I seem only able under water to do 5 in a row??? (I suck at breath holding especially when out of breath from cardio) As soon as it's at water level I start slowing down and look like a drifting embarrassing, helpless, butt bobbing log. Is there a way to train the kick without being the entertainment for other lane swimmers? 😂 My pool is always busy, i went at 5am opening, 6, 7, 8...I hardly am alone in a lane and always others in other lanes. As one fellow swimmer commented on my beautiful (?) breast stroke, I since know, damn it, they watch and look!
I only started learning how to swim when i was 26 years old. It was mostly by self learning and partially by informal coaching given by friends i met in the pool. Today I am 39 y/o and i can swim butterfly pretty well to a competition level but i still cant master the freestyle strokes. Is this considered common for self-taught swimmers? Thank you
Thanks! I will try all of these and it will help me get ready for my 100fly at champs next weekend! Btw I’m only 8 Edit: my time for short course is 1:30:89
thank you for the video! i wonder if i am supposed to stroke my hands aside a little on entry to help breast stroke and catch water. please give me some suggestions.
Hi, I like your videos on butterfly and dolphin kick. Very informative. You've shown the core exercise that's needed. Would you recommend any gym exercises to help strengthen the shoulders or you best prefer that's done through regular swimming?
DO you know the main problem? Everyone while doing butterfly makes their chest move up than forward. That does not only slow you down but also makes you tired.
Some great drills there which I haven't seen before (2:12 is Biondi drill right?). Do you have any recommendations for full stroke butterfly sets? I'm trying to go sub minute 100m fly but I end up dying on the second 50m.
It was only after I started teaching butterfly did I actually learn to do it. Through the stages. Would never use a kick bored for dolphin kick drills. Would use a noodle as not to strain the back and keep the noodle at the hips area.
This was a great video! I just have one question, I know for butterfly you have to do two kicks, but do one of the kicks have to be stronger than the other? If so, does the first kick have to be stronger or the second??
