    For me, learning that I can do 2 kicks was a gamechanger. Also, butterfly is the best ever stroke to swim with fins.

      I just tried to correct my mistake, following this informative video, but to no avail! I got used to do one kick for each stroke! 😢

    One thing I have never seen in any video about the fly and the dolphin kick is that the breathing kick is slightly different than the swimming or underwater kick. Difference is that with the breathing kick, you can't fully engage your abs because you are inhaling. That means the breathing kick comes more from the hips down. Generally, there is more knee flex and higher amplitude, with the heels coming up slightly out of the water. The underwater or swimming kick. I liken to a long steel ruler. The long whipping action travels along the body line, with the feet going both up and down in that whip.

      Love it when people take the time to explain nuances like this to help amateur swimmers master the technique.
      I hear alot of advice trying to get your hips up higher out when doing butterfly. Any similar insights here or things to prioritize? I tend to gas out just after 25m of fly.

    • @robohippy
      @robohippy Год назад +6

      @@sneakygs I can blame old age, I am 72.... I do like to swim it with fins and a snorkel. I can make 50 yards that way. Without the fins and snorkel, I am good for about 25 yards, though I could probably make a 50. I do have to breathe on every stroke because I burn a lot of oxygen. The fly was a lot easier to swim 50 years ago....

    Hi, can you plz advice whether an aged male swimmer who is obese(above 112 kgs in weight) can learn to do good butterfly? I mean its about me & I'm 45 yrs old , I know good freestyle in deep open waters like in large ponds (with depth above 20 feet or more). And I can also do light backstroke for short distance(As water gets into my nose if i do it without nose-clips & fast for more than few meters, otherwise no problems) in deep waters as well as standing in deep waters but only problem I face in butterfly & that is bcoz of my pot belly & also I cant time my kick as well as maintain that strong dolphin kick, even if I try I cant raise my head even after 2 fly strokes to breath!! So plz advice , whether it is wise to learn butterfly with my weight around 113 kgs?

      Hi there! Every body has the ability to swim every stroke. It's all about refining technique and improving your feel of the water. Make sure that when you breathe, it's at the exact same time that you start the pull, and put your head back down before your arms start to come back up to the top.
