  • Undervolting Asus ROG Zephyrus M15, COOLER TEMPS and MORE FPS on Your Gaming Laptop
    In this video I cover how to undervolt the CPU and GPU on the Asus ROG Zephyrus M15. This can also apply to other gaming laptops or even desktop PCs. make sure to stick around to the end of the video where I have charts of the final temperatures and FPS scores after undervolting. First I go through and get some baseline temps and FPS averages, then we undervolted the system and run all the tests over again. Luckily after it was all said and done, I got cooler thermals on both the CPU and GPU, and I got More FPS on all the titles.

    This video blew my mind.. the first time I watched it I thought it was all BS because how is it possible that undervolting will give you more fps if less power is going through the system, but then I was playing on turbo for a while and noticed my CPU temps were quite high, 95c, and I thought "I might as well undervolt it to see if I can actually lower the temps so I can extend the life of my laptop at the cost of performance" but after I did it, to my surprise, as you said, I got better performance and better temps, like, how come they don't design these laptops like that out of the box? It is illogical but whatever, you method works wonders, thank you very much for sharing this video on this specific laptop which is exactly the one I have

    • @clerian
      @clerian 3 года назад +3

      The reason is because of binning. Not all silicon that makes the cut for a particular product line is of equal quality. They tune performance to make the worst silicon in the product line stable, which requires more voltage. If you get lucky and get one of the better chips, it can be undervolted and remain stable, therefore you get better performance because it can be undervolted and then pushed harder to reach the same thermal ceiling.

In conclusion, it will always be a win win scenario for you and your device : )

      Thank you!! Unfortunately we are kinda limited on what we can do to cool down laptops,
      but the main things are the CPU/ GPU undervolt if possible, using a cooling pad, gaming at lower
      settings. Other things I would do, disable high performance/ turbo modes in armory crate and
      create a more aggressive fan curve in bios or armory crate.

  • @Mr_Feller
    @Mr_Feller Год назад

    Found out the hard way you can't undervolt the ROG Zehyrus M16. Even when I went to adjust the GPU with Afterburner, when I'd click one of the nodes to drag it, the computer would seize up and 'think' for a moment before the line would budge. I'd see on the metrics how the numbers would jump. When I tried to benchmark afterwards, the numbers are reading into the 100's, yet there's a visual stuttering that kept occurring in 5-7 second intervals. The fans would also sound as if a plane was taking off in my office and the heat was troublesome. I've decided to take it back, there's something seriously wrong with the device.
    Ironically, however, I've applied these same techniques to my previous gaming laptop (An MSI with an RTX 2070) and with some tweaks to make the game more comparable to the Xbox Series X specs, I've been able to play Red Dead at a solid 70 FPS. The trees look a tad flat but, hey, at least nothing is at risk of melting or burning XD.

      @JakeVirdenTech  3 года назад +3

      No problem! Undervolting is basically the action of reducing the voltage and power going to your core components like the CPU and GPU. The goal of common undervolting is to decrease thermals and sometimes get increase in fps due to temperature reduction.
      Undervolting is almost the opposite of overclocking, usually the voltage is increased for a GPU or CPU overclock.

    I have this exact laptop,and lately (few months now)whenever I’m in a game (whether just on menu screen or actually playing ) the cpu temps are at a constant 93-96C on turbo or even performance sometimes (in any game,even something as old as cod black ops 2).I tried undervolting the cpu and gpu in the same way as the video shows,and it certainly improved performance (shadow of the tomb raider benchmark was 69 FPS at high,now it is 98) ,but now, depending on the game,cpu temps are either 84-96C (Overwatch) or 93-95 (shadow of the tomb raider )(sometimes I even see 97-98C for a sec) . So undervolting certainly did do something,but it is not enough. What more can I do to reduce the cpu temp? Gpu temp is perfectly fine between 64-75 on turbo. I already got my laptop’s fans cleaned at a computer store to see if that was the problem but nothing changed,so that shouldn’t be the problem

    • @JakeVirdenTech
      @JakeVirdenTech  3 года назад +1

      Hey! Gotcha, I have thrown quite a few challenges at my M15 and it has handled them all very well.
      I have done a fair amount of photo editing in Adobe Photoshop and 3D modeling in Fusion 360
      and this laptop does great with it. Unfortunately I cant speak directly for Revit and Archicad since
      I have not used those programs on this laptop and am not very familiar with them in general.
      If it was me I would definitely go with the M15 over the Omen, Personally I just haven't had much
      luck with HP in the past. I do Recommend laptops with AMD Ryzen processors, AMD tends to
      provide more cores and threads for the money vs Intel. Intel is falling behind when it comes to
      cost to performance, and they are also loosing the title of always having the fastest clocks and
      in game FPS. But there are still lots of applications that are intel optimized. As far as the fan noise
      goes, the M15 can be loud if the fan curve is set on the aggressive side. I have mine set to silent and
      it stays super quiet while using photoshop and fusion 360.
      Thanks a bunch for the positive feedback Adrian! Much appreciated my friend!!! sorry for the long reply, hope

    Easiest way to understand power your CPU but leave your GPU without anything complicated is to go under power options under processing state and change all the maximum to 50% as under games under load barely use like 20-30% of your CPU and just adjust it when you get any slow downs when normally using your PC my CPU temps went from 96 C to only 50 C and games run even better now as no thermal throttling and then can even overclock your GPU
