  • Is this the cheapest road-legal car in the country?
Finally a new budget car project.
I really have a thing for these old lemons! XD
This car is also called (in other countries):
    Holden Barina
    Vauxhall Corsa
    Chevrolet Classic

Bard says capitalism is dying, attentionalism is rising: Anyone can have a new Audi as a companycar or on a leasing contract, but someone that has an old Opel in perfect condition is interesting and worth talking to. Especially for us car guys.

We used to have a Citroen C1 as our only car and it would confuse people so much as they couldn't work out whether we had money or just didn't want a fancy modern car. Most people round us have huge Volvos, Audi's, BMWs or cheaper SUVs. Our little C1 was bought for £1 off my Dad and sold back to him for £2. It served us well and did 70-80 mpg even with a lead foot

Opel, Vauxhall and Holden are General Motors (GM) companies, I am not sure of stock ownership now, but recently they were. So this same car is badged as Vauxhall in the UK, Holden in Australia/NZ and Chevrolet in the Americas. GM is a very vast and diversified company, in the US anything that turns around will have some part made by GM.🦚

I have the same Corsa B (5D) in white color ('96). Had it for 2 years now. So far I've bought and done: Thermostat, water pump, timing belt and the auxliary parts, top end gaskets and valve rubbers, plugs, distributor cap and rotor, charger belt, air and fresh air filters, new battery, fluids, rear brake shoes and springs, rear wheel bearing right side, front tied rod end left side, brand new summer and winter tyres, new blinker switch, new blinker relay, new bulbs front and rear, new door speakers, new music player and... Maybe something else I'm forgetting right now. Atm on my to-do list as first priorities I have to fix the boot lock mechanism (which broke down a couple of weeks ago), replace dash lights and weld a small spot on the left side skirt (finger sized hole). All of these can wait for the spring though, since I have to work on my car outside at the mercy of the weather. Doing maintenance when it's -25c outside is not very fun :D
After all's said and done I think the car is in a fine shape for a 28 year old car, it's got 215000km clocked (out of which I have done 15000). I drive it daily and have driven it daily regardless of season for the past 2 years now. It's very suitable for city driving and does well on country roads aswell. Not the most optimal thing for speedways but hey, I think that's a given with any of these tiny and lightweight small-engine cars :)

I just bought my first ever car, a simple 2003 VW Lupo 1.4 for 6000 Danish crowns 😊 no fancy stuff needed, it has hand cranked windows, manual locks all the way around and it also has some issues with not wanting to stay idle, some issues with the reverse gear not wanting to engage, and other mechanical issues that needs to be fixed, but I'm like your friend, I got my license 2 months ago, and just wanted a simple car that I could learn how to repair and maintain 😊 I already bought the parts I need and I'm planning on repairing it with a friend soon.

That car was quite the experience, took me a week of intermittent issues to figure it out.

and yeah, of course people say "replace this and that" and maybe it is worth a look. make it safe to drive since the Corsa B is quite flimsy in a crash, especially with some rust on it. I be the spare wheel compartment looks multiple times worse from the inside like mine did.

Hey Ejo, what did you do with your Volvo and Micra? Do you keep them, or did you sell them?

    • @ejoautovideos
      @ejoautovideos  8 месяцев назад +2

I still have them. I've been enjoying my Volvo a lot this winter and I drove the Micra a lot during the summer. They will be back on the channel when time comes. 😊👍
