I have this guitar. Bought it 2nd hand in 1987 for $200.00. I played it through the 90s until I could afford and found good quality left handed guitars. The single coil combo tones in are the best sounding tones I've ever come across. I have never had any neck issues with this guitar. Never had any intonation problems. I think a lot has to do with the zero nut which is something that every guitar should have. Most reliable guitar I have ever owned.
I absolutely love this guitar. I have a silver one too that somebody pulled the electronics out of and put Duncan’s from the 80s in it. To quote Van Hagar, “the best of both worlds”!
I have an original one, silver, bought new in '86. Resisted all temptations to mod it over the years. So it's original. When I need an 80ies guitar sound, this is my go to guitar. Will NEVER sell it. Thanks for the video.
I have the silver one too but my silver one had the pickups and electronics swapped before I got it. Still has the buttons though. I have thought hard about putting it back to original but I have the copper one for that. Plus my silver one has Duncan’s from the 80s that have the code where you know who wound them and that’s cool enough to leave it IMHO. I have 3 of the bass versions of this guitar. Two are heavily modified and one is completely stock. ruclips.net/video/2ssjELvXPwc/видео.html
Oh hell yeah I love the Pro-Line series, I still have a Pro-Line RR V that I've had for years, this video just reminded me that it's in pieces buried somewhere in my workshop. That's one of the reasons I really dig your channel you focus on all of that badass gear from my era! Keep up the great work big dog I'm gonna go dig that guitar out now!
@@REXYLAB I don’t play it as much. It is a nice guitar. I bought some custom shop SD pickups to install but I haven’t had the time. I mostly gig with 2 Teles. Once I get the pickups install I am gonna take it to a few gigs.
Thank you! I enjoy the nostalgia myself. I have an interview with Gary Kahler coming out Saturday on the 80s tremolo wars. I think you will enjoy it and hope you check it out.
@@guitarreromxl74 fr, i remember going to guitar center 2 years ago and tried out some guitars. They were nice and all but the playability of the pl1770. Although i must say, in my opinion, the only other guitar that are similar are other ibanez and ESP
Cool! Mine have the originals as well. I have the Silver and the other one the seller modified the original color. I’ve been looking for the Black version

This thing is a work of genius! Unfortunately nobody really cared and Ibanez was in serious trouble in 1986. Their solution was to go after Steve Vai with everything they had to snare the ultimate Ibanez endorser, it’s a well documented story that worked like a charm. This guitar has only one thing in common with the guitars they would release one year later with massive trickle down from the Jem, the Ibanez edge. But… this is the 86 edge (not to be confused with the original edge that came out the next year) and it didn’t have the spring retainer bar on the block or the locking studs. 86 was the first year of the edge and the only year it didn’t feel Vai’s influence in some way.
Ive had one of these for 35 years. Plays like butter and sounds great. I’ll never sell it
I’m with you on that!

That is a super cool guitar! I hope you have all the pieces!
I bought one like this in mint condition during the pandemic with the original case. It is my first Ibanez.
You like it? It’s a very nice guitar but nothing like the ones that came out the very next year or since. 1986 is the end of the pre RG/Jem era.

I have a black pl1770 and i love it. From all the guitars i've tried, i stay with mine. It sounds and play great. and i got it for dirt cheap
I have another one with aftermarket pickups. I love them, they’re awesome!
The neck profile and playability is something else on these models.

Very cool!!!Was kinda getting a "Simple lessons" by: Candlebox feel with those chord progressions.👍
Nice!
😂 loved the RadioShack bit at the end, really cool guitar! Gr8 vid bummed i missed the live stream of it. gud stuff 🔥!!!!
This live stream was an hour early because I was interviewing Gary Kahler at my regular time.

Always wondered what the guts looked like in that model. Definitely impressive when you consider the year of manufacture.
