This is the second time I've watched this video. I loved seeing all the different china sets of the Chateau. The kinds of videos make us feel like we're there.
I just love listening to you two chat about your shared love of porcelain and glassware. It's also quite sweet to hear Phillip call Stephanie "dahling". :)
I live in Germany now (I grew up in the US) and I LOVE visiting the various porcelain museums around the country. The history, the science behind it, the beautiful designs - it all amazes me. Seeing your porcelain collection up close like this was basically a virtual museum tour, so thank you!!
You could possibly have the proceeds from the shop go to charity as you do with the cadeaus. That way you could maybe sell some of the presents you've received and then the gifts would have helped a charity two times. I don't think the gifters would be offended. You can't possibly be expected to keep so many gifts forever.
I love the passionate discussion about the practicality of one extravagant China pattern in favor or against! It’s lovely and amazing! You are all very brave ❤️🤗🦋🙏🏼
Wow! The shop is coming together. I agree with you Stephanie, it might be hard to let go of things, but you’re making room for the new!! It amazes me how much you and Philip accomplish together!! Great teamwork!!
Stephanie, I have a suggestion. Buy a big map and put it in the entryway of the chateau. Guests and volunteers who visit the chateau can place a small pin on it wherever they're from, so you can keep track of it!
That’s a fantastic idea. You could also buy a map to show all of the areas of which the porcelain has come from in France 🇫🇷. I think it’s a cute idea maybe I’m bonkers 😂 all my love from Liverpool in 🇬🇧
I had an idea .....the wonderful painting of your mother ,in the garden ,should be photographed and made into a greeting or post card -and perhaps your fathers artwork ,too ! I hope ,in time ,the shop might have a website that people might visit and buy from When Gerry ,at last ,moves in ,perhaps he could be shop keeper proper - he would be great !!!
Thanks for your beautiful show and sharing your journey with all of us!! Hoping your chateaux turns out to be everything you have dreamed!!! 💕❤️🍷🇫🇷🥄🗝🍷🥕🥒🥬🦚🍅🍏🧅🍷🏰🥦🌱🚜
I love seeing your father's art as you roam the chateau. It goes rather beautifully with the antiques by way of contrast and a nod to a more modern time in history.
Clearing out and giving up favorite items is always hard. The gift shop will be a great addition. I agree with the suggestions of postcards with your father’s art, Andie’s art and photos from Michael Potts will be very popular especially for travelers who are limited with weight restrictions or space in their luggage. Congrats to the newlyweds 🎊🎉😍😘
I’m overwhelmed by all the dishes you have, lol! My inclination is to bring absolutely everything out, put it all in one room and then pull out the favourites and load them back into a space designated for dinnerware and donate/ sell the rest a la Marie Kondo.
What an episode. You've reminded me that things we use and buy and love along the years have a season that naturally can be let go! You've helped inspire and motivate me to let go of things I've been hesitant to let go. Onward to make way for new things that could have more meaning and purpose in my future if only I let the old go. Thank you for filming what would otherwise seem rather mundane, but its something we ALL need to do!! What inspiration! 👏
Now you've more or less done your clear out, you should make an invetory, and keep it up to date when you add to it. You can code purchase or gift. It would help if you ever needed one for insurance purposes too.
@@gondolin12 Yes, but in this vlog Stephanie was very conscious about not wanting to sell items that had been gifted to her, but readily admitted she couldn't remember all that had been. It seems to me that people send her gifts for a variety of reasons, and it's also clear that some wouid be horrified if the items were then discarded or sold.
@@wscwarden5022 true, but lets hope people watching realize anything less than a dozen of the same china wont be used! Better then to send additions to china they akready do use, there'll always be larger dinnerparties than the twelve and they are very old school about setting tables in the sense of matching china, although not regarding crystal or linnen napkins or silverware as far as I can tell. People should learn from what we are seeing and think carefully or they'll need a warehouse at Lalande to keep sky high piles of unused gifts! I've been thinking this all along actually. They must have at least a hundred hedgehogs to sell as well if the aim isn't a palace of kitch 😂
Such beautiful porcelain Stephanie, I loved immersing myself in your china collections. You are being very strong and Philip is being very practical - a good combination! I’m one step behind you to where I’m gathering my best china from the back of cupboards to front and centre, so I will actually use them in ‘almost’ everyday use. The big drawback is of course that everything has to be hand washed!😬 Congrats to the happy couple and a big clap to Marie’s culinary skills. Marie is so multi talented being a beautiful pianist too. ❤️🏰🍽🎹
I am loving going on the clearing the chateau journey, loved seeing the porcelain in the collection. Lots of happy laughing at dinner...make me feel good.
Congratulations to the happy couple. Your shop is off to a great collection of items. Hard to imagine just after your heat wave your walking around with a hot water bottle. We have 32C here past few days. Better than 42C so I am not complaining. As always lots happening at Lalonde. Keep well.
We can all benefit from a good clearing out. Several of your gifts were given with a note that, in essence, said “if you can’t use it, don’t feel you need to keep”. We should never feel prisoners of gifts, or drown in the weight of others generosity. You show genuine appreciation for each gift as you receive them. That said, life is fluid and once you have enjoyed them, let them have a new life cycle with the next person so you are also free to enjoy the next experience. 🥰
I agree, for sure. I think anyone who gave a gift to the château family would see the shop as an extension of giving back to the château, but also to the extended family since any visitor to the shop is definitely extended chateau family. :)
My Opinion…….Gifts should come with no strings attached, if given within one’s own family, unless they are family keepsakes and then you should tell the recipient to give you first dibs if they no longer want it. We’ve done this in our family for many many years and it works every time. If a gift is given to someone outside your family, it’s fair game. They can do what they want with it.
You are so fortunate to have access to such beautiful dishes and fabrics! In England and France they are so plentiful! I hunt like a mad woman hefe in the states!!! I get so much pleasure everytime to go thrifting! Your bed crown and toile bed linens almost made me feint. I've recently purchsed a pair of chairs that were in a famiky for 100 years. I treasure them. By passing on what you dont use, soneone else will derive such pleasure
For porcelain addiction, doctors recommend that you take a lovely, porcelain tea saucer, preferably part of a set, and duct tape it to your upper arm in the manner of a nicotine patch. Failing that there is no cure. All that’s left is to do is to open a shop. Edit to add: A support group? Porcelain Anonymous? “Hi. My name is Philip. I almost bought 2 serving plates today.”
@@ellen9018 I wonder if there’s rehab? Here in the States that could mean going to Target, or Walmart, and buying dinnerware there without crying. If there’s no cure for porcelain addiction, I suppose it could follow the model of the methadone clinic that was by where I used to live (weirdly it was also next to an elementary school but there was never any trouble). Perhaps addicts could go in one by one and fondle a porcelain tea set or dinner service every week. Which begs the question, is hiding porcelain plates behind a statue of the Madonna actually a desperate call for help?
This is so funny ... especially the "OH I LOVE THAT BOX" ..my Darling says that all the time .... I feel the pain ...good luck and would love to visit the shop ...I will have happy dreams tonight x and "Phillip why are Your lurking behind the Virgin Mary??? " lol
So important not to turn into a crazy hoarder! I find it satisfyingly therapeutic to cleanse and reduce (but a bit painful). The brocante in France are a dreadful trap! 🇦🇺 it is so lovely to see your home full of guests again.
Honestly it seems like you guys are always having such a good time 💕 I love keeping up with the goings on at the château and the shop is going to be fabulous!
So many beautiful items for the chateau shop, not easy to part with old familiar possessions. I love the vlog ending show dinner with the guests and the shot looking out at the sunset. Thanks Stephanie and Philip and company🙏🏼❤️
Suggestion: before selling anything in the shop, photograph them - that way, you will have a visual record of your sales, as well as a monetary one. It sometimes happens that one will go searching desperately for a remembered item - forgetting that it has been sold, broken, or given away!
I love these clearing, decluttering vlogs. ❤️ well done to you and Philip on the smooth, loving way you are dealing with chuck, sell or keep! And there is a LOT of china to get through. Huge congrats to the newly betrothed. What a perfect spot ….. and surrounded by love and laughter ….. can’t think of anything nicer! And the food and table looked divine! Maria is a treasure. Love to you all! ❤️❤️
If you haven't already, the data geek in me recommends that you assign the following project to a volunteer: for each cabinet in Narnia, kitchen shelves, future China room, etc., create an inventory spreadsheet with the names of each set of dishes, noting the category (porcelain, glasses, etc.), the maker, color or pattern, along with the number of pieces, where it came from (gift, purchase and from where/whom), a picture of the set, which pieces are missing that you're still hunting brocantes for, and where they are currently stored (in case you rotate things around). You should also include a $ value (of what you paid and/or the value you've researched on shops like Ebay). You may want to include a column to denote/track how many times you've used the set, to determine if you should keep it. Place all of this in a binder. Then the next time you're clearing, just open the book and look through it to determine your next items for the shop! It's a huge job, but would be so worth it.
This sounds like the sort of project I’d love. It mixes my records management skills with my love for porcelain. Keep this project for me Stephanie and if possible I’ll come and do it for you next year if you’d like.
as a database fiend I'd literally LOVE to have this task and create a super detailed notion page just for the porcelain (and honestly much more than just the porcelain)
I really like these ideas, I like the idea of having a leather-bound volume tracking all of this all the gifts and inventory or the rooms themselves? Pictures and notes Etc and inventories of rooms in the Chateau, under Stephanie's chatelaine, what an opportunity she has to add to the historical record of the Chateau.
So many pretty plates. Love the ones your Aunt gave you. It's hard to part with things that you've cherished for so long. Hopefully someone else will cherish them just as you did. If I spoke French I would fly over and shop. LOL
It was a joy to look through your amazing collections with you and hilarious when Philip said not to throw out the hedgehog bag LOL :D The ending was so lovely with everyone around the table and the food looked so delicious, yet again! Thank you for sharing :)
Having just caught up with Chateau DIY after being away, how are you getting on with Gerald’s apartment? Are you waiting for planning permission to put in windows or do we have to wait till the next series? It was obviously a work in progress and explained the new upstairs bathroom.
They are waiting for the planning permissions for the external doors. Then they can finish Natti's apartment. Gerry's apartment has been moved to next year. Amaury is doing the Grand Salon and then the China room.
It took me about 8 years to finally condence all my china, books, fabrics and furniture down to basic but happy and manageable at my age of 76. Moving from a large old Queenslander house to a one bedroom cottage by the sea was the hardest thing for me, so I can understand that you are so tempted not to sell things you have had for years. I must admit now it was the best thing I ever did. Your attitude Stephanie that someone else will love it as you did when they buy it is the best advice, its it sad at the time but sensible. The food looked delicious as always, you have inspired me to return to preparing my meals a bit more extravagantly as I used to. Thank you so much 💕🇦🇺
I used some of my older but not valuable china pieces for little water dishes and birdbaths throughout my garden. My cats drink out of them and the birds love to bathe in the larger dishes. They fill up with the rain usually, but I also fill them every so often throughout the summer.
Does each room have a tea set that already goes in there? Because you have so many smaller sets I wondered if you might be able to match them to the rooms and each one could have their own sets…
Wonderful vlog as usual! So exciting setting up the shop for your guests! Do you think perhaps you might get a chance to give us a decor-specific tour thru the château? When the guys were inspecting the chimney, I gasped at the chairs you had sitting in front! They’re absolutely fantastic and I was hoping you could give more specific details of fabric names and your thought process on how you decorate, Stephanie. I’m in love with your style and I know I’m not alone! The little glimpses we get are not enough for me! 🤗
Before I moved this last time, I downsized by about 80%. I was overwhelmed with 3 sets of dishes: a 10 place setting of fine China I rarely used, daily wares which mimmicked a fine designer set, and a heavier porcelain Italian set I bought for outside dining. I decided a household of one does not need 3 sets, so I let all go, but the fine China which I now use daily. Also, many pieces of nice crystal made it into a lovely couple's home who would use them more than me. I can not imagine having this many pieces of china to go through! Letting go is very freeing. Good for you to let those things go to create a space for new. 💖
Well done Steph and Philip for letter go of some of your treasures, but how wonder for guest to be able to buy some of the lovely items you've personally selected. Xxx congratulation to the two gentlemen who exchanged rings my you have many happy years together Xxx
Just a thought: The white with blue floral design tea pot and set of 4 (starting at 14:09 mark) looks quite similar to the handpainted kitchen backsplash tiles Anna designed/made for their chateau. You might want to think of gifting them to her and Philip. They are so pretty!
In the USA they have cute combination presents. For instance you could sell the cups with the recipe for the drink and even perhaps the dry ingredients. The same if you had a chocolate moose recipe attached to a single cup. I also think cards and posters of your father’s art would be wonderful, especially if sold online.
Stephanie and Philip you could also buy another small map for in the shop to show what areas of France 🇫🇷 the porcelain has come from. I’m sure that the locals would love the idea x love from Liverpool in the Uk x
I totally understand how difficult it is to purge the things you love, because I had to do it. It's never easy and the tears flowed. You might want to go a brocante(s) to find a used greeting card/post card rack to display the post cards and note cards in the shoppe. I love the idea of photographing your Father's paintings and Oliver's painting of Mummy and turning them into notecards. And perhaps a series of photographs around LaLande - the garden, front facade, chapel, etc., in postcards and note cards with the year they were taken, updating them each year. People can buy them and follow along with your progress. And what about Andie's books and maybe even Oliver's art and Michael's photography, too. Your possibilities are endless!!! Just some random thoughts.
Hey Stephanie I have a thing for beautiful plates also. I find my plates at a thrift shop in America called Goodwill. The last plate I bought was for $3.99 so beautiful designed with a lacey edge, in the center of the platter are pink roses with green leaves and stems. Wish I was there to visit your new shop. God Bless and great success. Kathy 🇺🇸
That small set of white dishes with the loosely-painted blue floral motif (with the matching pitcher) reminds me quite a lot of the hand painted tiles in Anna and Philipp’s kitchen.
Congratulations to the couple that were engaged in the Chapel. Grat memory for you always. Hope a picture was taken? Then you would have it in an album too. Many blessings.
If your getting a lot of gifts you should make a spread sheet listing everything that was given to you so that you would remember who got you what. Also taking pictures of everything is also recommended for a visual record.
hi Emily we have just watched this vlog for the 2nd time! Firstly all the porcelain and china are gorgeous and interesting and I know we would find it just as hard to put some aside to sell. We were discussing a similar idea Emily because if we had given such beautiful gifts to Stephanie, Philip and LaLanders we would be really upset if our gift/s were not remembered and used in the Chateau! We are pleased both Stephanie and Philip would not give away/sell gifts! However, it is inspirational to watch and given us the impetus to clear out our 4th bedroom where we 'stored' items, when we moved which we don't really use now! Best wishes Christina and Nick Crediton, Devon , UK
Must keep anything saying Fabreje! Oh My, they are special plates although only four, they do use sometimes a mix and match day. They mix up the dishes all at one time, and that is part of the design. It can be a special program. 'Little cakes' on the three-layer plate. Cake platter. 'Petit fours' would be so nice for a special summer party maybe?. Love, love the room Amuary and Nathan was working in on the fireplace area, (log burner area) Absolutely adore the chairs and the whole room. You have done a wonderful job! Do not see that room much. The eighteen blue and white dishes are Dutch looking and beautiful. We have two in our China closet and love them, (The ones Stephanie and her dad got at the factory. ) Such lovely items now will find a new home, and someone will adore them too! So hard to declutter. memories and so much more gets in the way. Philip does not have as much of a hard time though. He is good at this but most men are1 lol
Isabelle is visiting soon and if she wants the China, she has a room at Lalande and two houses in SA, so she can decide to take them. Isabelle seems very practical, so she may even move more items into the shop. 😁
The blue tea set at 14:08 would be a great gift to Anna and Phillip at How to renovate a chateau without killing your partner. They match the tiles Anna hand painted for the kitchen.
Stephanie, I love to see how your relationship with Philip is blossoming and growing. Might be harder to notice in real life, but in your videos, it is noticeable how he is maturing in a way that complements you so much. He is direct and straight forward and is learning to guide you through your decision-making processes. He also seems much more comfortable in his own skin at least as we see him in camera. You could not be doing all this without him. Bravo to you both! I also love that he loves your China! To my husband, a plate is a plate is a plate-merely something to hold your food. Sigh.
That was a treat to watch! I've been doing this very thing in the home of an 87 yr old little lady who is moving to a smaller home. I love all that you're selling and I look forward to seeing your shop in action! Another lovely, lovely video!

Great idea!
Absolutely love Maria!
So many pretty plates. Love the ones your Aunt gave you. It's hard to part with things that you've cherished for so long. Hopefully someone else will cherish them just as you did. If I spoke French I would fly over and shop. LOL
🥂🍾💖The newlyweds were adorable!😍 And the shot of them leaving the chapel…..epic!! 💖Truly the epitome of “life, love & laughter”!!
It was a joy to look through your amazing collections with you and hilarious when Philip said not to throw out the hedgehog bag LOL :D The ending was so lovely with everyone around the table and the food looked so delicious, yet again! Thank you for sharing :)
Aww how wonderful, especially the boys in the chapel! Aww.. and love the shop!
Having just caught up with Chateau DIY after being away, how are you getting on with Gerald’s apartment? Are you waiting for planning permission to put in windows or do we have to wait till the next series? It was obviously a work in progress and explained the new upstairs bathroom.
And Natalie's...
Where can I watch them? I'm in the US. Some are on RUclips but not entire seasons in order.
Thank you so much 💕🇦🇺
You are my inspiration- keep up the good ( painful😩) work!
I used some of my older but not valuable china pieces for little water dishes and birdbaths throughout my garden. My cats drink out of them and the birds love to bathe in the larger dishes. They fill up with the rain usually, but I also fill them every so often throughout the summer.
I commend you on your clearing. It is a painfully refreshing task.
Beautiful China. Your shop will be wonderful. China has always been one of my weaknesses.
The 6 people sets would be wonderful for the guests in Apartments to use. Amazing things for sale!
Your shop is looking great and you two really are such a good couple and of course there's more love in the air at LaLande with an engagement!😀🤗💓💕💞
Delightful and a beautiful sunset! Thanks!!
What a productive La Land day followed by a celebratory dinner! Merci! Indeed from California!
I love the lovely fishermen plates and agree you should keep them!
I loved this vlog. Organizing so you can see and appreciate what you have is so rewarding! The shop sounds perfect!
Does each room have a tea set that already goes in there? Because you have so many smaller sets I wondered if you might be able to match them to the rooms and each one could have their own sets…
Yes, they do, and we change them around occasionally
I thought the same thing.
Love all of the clearing that is going on. I am finding it very inspiring.
The shop is going to be such a success, you two put always put so much thought and care in everything you do it is beautiful to see.
Congratulations to the lovely couple who exchanged rings in the chapel x
Perfect idea!!! Love her custom backsplash. They are over the moon about their new kitchen.
In the USA they have cute combination presents. For instance you could sell the cups with the recipe for the drink and even perhaps the dry ingredients. The same if you had a chocolate moose recipe attached to a single cup. I also think cards and posters of your father’s art would be wonderful, especially if sold online.
Great ideas!
Chocolate. mousse sounds wonderful.
They had a postcard rack and kept it last year, so it could be in the attic or the storage room. 😁
Great ideas!
What fabulous suggestions!
You have inspired me to clean out the wardrobes as I watch this. Thank you.
Sigh.
Your aunts set is toooooo beautiful to sell.
I wish I could get to your shop I would use those shells for my scallop starter I made for Christmas!
I’m sure they could send it to you! Just ask. ❤️
That was a treat to watch! I've been doing this very thing in the home of an 87 yr old little lady who is moving to a smaller home. I love all that you're selling and I look forward to seeing your shop in action! Another lovely, lovely video!
