In the year 79-82 i was a young kid living in kavala, northern greece. There were 2 landroads to Middle East, one of them through the city of kavala, downhill into the city, over the granit paved road beside the harbour and then through the acuaduct.Especially i remember yellow trans danubia Austrian truck with trilex rims. They were very common guests in kavala.Even the Dutch trucks from jan de lelly were here often.
Grew up near Astrans yard in the 1970s,will always remember those red and yellow lorries setting off in convoy to lands far away. Really enjoy your channel.
Used to work with a few ex Middle East drivers , Barry Wilkinson was one , he had some fantastic photos AECs & ERFs from the late sixties doing the Middle East , wow how hard were they ? . Barry used to buy a Volvo F88 in the UK , get a trailer, load it for the ME , sell the truck and trailer when he tipped and fly back then do it all over again . He once told me he got a puncture , An Arab stopped to help and took him to the nearest garage to get it repaired.......a full days driving there and back !! . Men of steel .
Wow that would have been hard going for those drivers bet they could tell some stories 👌Great old classic trucks that I remember as a kid growing up in da 80’s👍
I’m always struck by how little there is to show for all the hard work, toil and grief these guys went through,I hope they earned a good living for their troubles
100% agree I passed in 99 We still ran 112m where I worked after passing my test Loved the job back then because you were a driver and not a steerer New trucks are computers on wheels
@2.00 - 2.10 that's the M 32 that runs south from Aktobe in Kazakhstan down past Balkalour. At one time ( late 80's / mid 90's ) it was the only road that the Europe/ China trucks were aloud to use. Turn left at the bottom and run for Bishkek and Almaty. AND I only ever saw Ralph Davis on that road twice in 2 1/2 years. But I did see Dave Mackie and an assortment of ex Astran and Carman trucks which were running to a gold mine some where south of Samarkand.
