I feel as though many identify with Rick, not as a cool and awesome character, but, as a piece of shit. Most likely due to being misunderstood and suffering from depression, which "forces" them to identify with the "bad" parts of Rick subconsciously, while having to justify the "idolization" by bringing up the better aspects of Rick and overanalyzing the show entirely. This also functions as a form of escapism. Hi, Welcome to my TED-X talk...

I think part of it stems from a combination of 90s nerd-bashing, and the trope of conflating being a lonely asshole with being intelligent/successful. Thus a lot of people (usually men) decided that their inability to form genuine attachments wasn't because of anything they did, it's because the rest of society is filled with stupid sheeple who just don't understand whatever 200 IQ joke they made. They are a prime example of playing victim because as much as they wanna act like we're still in the 90s and the local jock is gonna shake them down for lunch money, they refuse to let other people have fun with the media unless they pass some arbitrary goalpost.
*TLDR:* R&M fans are just people who saw the trope of _Lonely Asshole Genius Who Wants Friends But Is Too Socially Inept To Make Any_ and stopped reading after the first three words.
The fandom I’ve seen is either Brennan’s character or its tumblr counterpart, “what’s wrong with shipping a grandfather and grandson?! No YOU have a problem!” Like I promise you dan harmon didn’t want sauce juggalos or tumblr pedophiles

It's weird, when people say they are like Rick and others say "No that's impossible" that makes 0 sense. Rick's archetype isn't a novel psychological invention by two animators. A brilliant yet egotistical person that is also depressed? I can tell you now, in science and in Professorships that is the majority of people.
So of course there are people like Rick. The point of Rick and Morty is to say Rick is brilliant and he is cool but it means nothing because he's suicidal, lives in a garage, is relatively unknown until his adventures with Morty and now is forced to find himself in the next season.
It's literally a plea to people like him to get better, to be better because the world needs you to be better. You, need you to be better because you are wasting your talents on literally being nothing.

@elijah mikle if we're talking season 1, I can kind of get that, but as the show gets on he really reveals himself to be a shitty person. Particularly The ABC's of Beth made me absolutely hate him, I cannot consider "being a Jerry" to be ok after watching that episode.

In all honesty, you'd be amazed at how many creators don't really understand their creations. A lot of the time the great things they write and create are accidental.
For instance, Justin Roiland sees some kind of weird incest subtext in Rick And Morty and originally wrote both Rick and Morty to be gay, or at least bi-sexual. I kind of think that making Rick Morty's grandfather was the writer's way of saying "dude, just no, we're not doing that," "but why not?" "uh, they're grandfather and grandson now."
Bill Murray apparently doesn't understand the character he played in Ghostbusters, which seems bizarre. In his mind, he's something of a slapstick comic who occasionally spouts a sarcastic quip when in reality he spends most of his movies uttering sarcastic quips and occasionally engages in slapstick.

The Pickle Rick episode was actually one of the strongest episodes I can think of in terms of making it clear how unhealthy he is and how messed up his relationships are
Yeah. It still baffles me how the episode had a character who perfectly summed up not only Rick’s issues but also the family’s dysfunction... but she’s demonized or even forgotten in favor of PICKLE RICK!
It’s what kept me from getting into the show for a long time. Heck, I only watched through the first season because a co-worker was watching it and there was nothing else going on. So when I finally saw it, I was surprised by not only how much I liked the humor but also the more nuanced moments.
Why do so many fans think they'll be cool and edgey and smart like Rick if they just start acting like an arsehole? Yeah, *these* are the people who understand the show(!)

I love Rick and Morty, but I'm always afraid to call myself a Rick and Morty "fan" because I don't want to be associated with the kind of people who insist that "you need a really high IQ to appreciate this show" while completely missing the point that Rick is a terrible person that the writers did not intend for them to emulate -- they even had a psychiatrist in "Pickle Rick" actively spell it out that Rick is a terrible person who makes himself and everyone around him miserable because so many people weren't reading the subtext, and many people *still* didn't get it -- or who harrass McDonald's employees for Szechuan sauce, or basically anything you think of when you think "Rick and Morty fan".

Couples therapy is the worst thing to do with abusive relationships because the abuser will use the therapy as leverage to isolate and control their partner further.

I am no therapist, but i think one party breaking your office furniture in rage and then threatening you with the pieces is a wee bit of a red flag.
@@kuro13wolf I think the recommended strategy is to tell the victim in these situations to seek out individual therapy. It's not solely that the abuser can leverage the situation but also that the victim may not feel safe sharing their perspectives in front of the abuser and may even defend them in some instances.
Licensed therapists can pick up on this, but by the time they've done so it's possible that they've lost the opening in which to talk to the victim. Either the victim may feel like they are being attacked by defending their abuser or the abuser may feel like the therapy is biased against him and demand the couple quit therapy.
Idk, threatening the therapist for commenting on your partner might be a bad sign. Maybe a little over-protective

The set was beautiful, excellent lighting color and space - I'd like to take that couch to dinner.

Agreed. I actually loved season 1, even with its problems, but I don't know what they did with season 2...watched 4,5 episodes and got bored. You know how it happens...you miss one week and you tell yourself "I'll watch 2 episodes next week" and then you end up not watching the test of the series at all. Clear sign a series is not doing it for you anymore

@@theheathen9415 season 1 was mindblowing, but the season 2 was just..idk what that is, I think I fell asleep when watching it. It's like Heroes, but worse, it's boring.
Watched all of Westworld series 2. There were too many ideas when they should have just focused on telling a slightly twisted story. I also think they needed another big twist that wasn’t about timelines for this. It was just all over the place - character and plot-wise. That isn’t to say that there were not some excellent moments in it like with the android of the Scottish boss though.
@@BobsiPringlez I strongly disagree when it comes to characters. Season 2 did an excellent job fleshing them out, thus shoring up the main issue with season 1. We can agree to disagree on the plot and pacing being wonky or boring, but I think character development was the strong suit of the season.

It can be difficult to have a healthy fanbase in a series that is so inconstant in tone and quality.. on the other hand I do appreciate it when devs are prepared to totally shakeup the formula and see what happens, I just wish they'd release the occasional "adventure" game for the long term fans
