Congrats on 20k Ralph!! Kit lenses are invaluable for beginners because the range is so much, and when you're starting out, it's likely you're not going to be getting too creative, so the f4 isn't really a bad thing, or in brighter situations it's a great all around lens. And like you said, for traveling, it's great too!
If only this came first before the RF 24-105 I would have chosen this. Pairing this with a fast prime will be a great combo for me. Zooms are about convenience anyways... and hoping them to act as good as primes will only make the lens as huge as Hubble. The same story if you compare the 24-105 against the 24-70 F2.8 .
@@HyunRalphJeong Well I do like 24-70 in combinaison with some primes. I prefer by far the extra aperture and image quality than the extra zoom, but not everyone have the same needs. (It's almost the same size and weight than a 24-105 actually)
I like your review. Very reasonable interpretaion. This is a travel lens for me and I love it. I have owned several 10X+ superzooms and this is by far the better one ever. I have the 24-105mm as well and I only use it for specialized applications and while f4 is larger it is not enough for indoors or low light where I use the 24-70f2.8 lens much more. For me the 24-70 is much more useful than the 24-105 which I use mostly for specialized video zooming applications.
Lindsay Adler has me in love with the 24-105. It's a huge focal range from wide to tight for quick framing changes in a studio photo shoot or even outdoors if you're really working your composition and don't need a ton of background blur. The optics are truly excellent and in line with the best L lenses. This new lens is clearly something for the consumer-end with RF glass where an average person can get a huge focal range for snapshots with their RP. I imagine it would be excellent for concertgoers who want a long reach to take pics of an artist but don't want to lug around multiple lenses. Considering the newer high end RF lenses are debuting at 3 friggen grand (AHEM…85 1.2 DS…😒), $900 is basically equivalent in price point to the $300ish EF's. 🤷🏻♂️
I have this lens and the 50mm f1.2 and the 24-105. I love the zooms but the fast primes are great lenses for low light, the f1.2 is 3.5 stops faster than the 24-105 which makes it a lot more flexible in low light and other situations, an f/4 is fine for portrait settings or others where lighting is plentiful.
Thank you for this video . I am likely getting one soon. You articulated it so well. I was struggling and unable to place my finger on. I am not a pro nor intend to be one. Content is what matters to me. Issues at the edge I will chop them out mercilessly 😂 Some reason this lens seems ignored by most. The canon dealer didn’t even suggest this to me while this best suits my use case. In my opinion as an amateur; pro level lens’s are not for everyone; while many of these inexpensive lens suits many. Thank you for this video. Cleared the fog in my brain. I hope every one has many many happy clicking days and years ahead.
Thank you. Your summation in the end is very informative. See the thing is that today phone cameras have 10x digital zoom and are able to offer many good images through AI processing. So why would anyone want to buy this lens to produce average images that could possibly be worse than those shot by say a top end Samsung / Pixel / iPhone? In this day and age the only differentiator that justifies a dedicated camera set up is the unarguably superior optical image quality offered by a large sensor in the camera paired with a well-made lens with at least an f4 constant aperture. Every other image can be produced and even bettered by phone cameras. Am I right? Or am I talking through the wrong end?
Oh wow I just heard this on a (youtube) news yesterday and you’ve got it reviewed already?! That’s so cool! EDIT: congrats on 20K! 👏🏻👏🏻 EDIT 2: If I didn’t know 2:17 is just turning IS off I would’ve thought an earthquake came by 😂
The 24-105 is a better choice even for personal use, if you don't need that extra reach. If you want to take pictures of wild animals, planes, or this kind of stuff, yes the 24-240 is better.
I own this lens and you are spot on. Extremely convenient lens, yet often disappoints me with the results. Having said that, it replaces $6-8,000 worth of RF or L glass...
I'm hesitating between purchasing a lens, namely the RF 24-105 f4 and the 24-240 f4 - 6.3. I want to use this lens for travel. On the one hand I think the 24-105, but if I want to photograph an animal a little further away, I don't have enough zoom, but on the other hand I read that the 24-240 gives somewhat blurrier corners and has to be cropped in lightroom. due to vignette at 24mm. I need help choosing.
I got a question. I have the Panasonic gh4. Might upgrade in the next 10 months to the gh5. What lens would you recommend? Right now I have a 50mm and a pancake lens. Would you suggest a zoom?
Toronto Eats Hmm I’m actually not all that familiar with the micro 4/3 systems but my friend has a leica 8-18 2.8-4 and he likes it. I almost bought a gh5 last month and that was gonna be my first lens. A wide zoom like that might be nice since you already have a 50.
Wouldn't it be great if they can make a lens that can do it all minus the setbacks? Haha But it looks like it offers a great range, which is great if you're a beginner. The lighting difference would probably bother us though. Great video.
Can you answer this question? Why the price of this lense is too high, here in Russia it's just cheaper than 24-105 f4 L, and sometimes they are in the same Price, it's very strange and confusing for me🤕 thank you for the review btw❤️
This lens paired with a EOS RP is about 1,3kg. It may be great for people who want an everyday camera usable in every situation without having to carry a bag full of lenses. It's an interesting and affordable combo for some people I think
Hey ralph! Holy smokes man! 20k! You deserve it, work so hard! 24-240? Whoa wide and zoom! Tho i would not use it for myself.. I think this would be a good overall outdoor lens to capture all
Do you work in radio? You could probably make a buck doing voice work. For U.S. market you'd have to filter out some east Asian accent, but damn, you got some fine tone.
Because of it not having the sharpness of the 24-105mm I’ll stay away from the 24-240mm. I can just crop in on the 24-105mm and get about the same zoom results. Plus I’ll have the extra light and avoid the vignetting. Pictures, for video is a different story.
I'm not gonna lie...I have no idea why it is that someone who only shoots jpegs is buying an expensive full frame mirrorless camera in the first place.
That vignette is horrible! How and why did Canon release a lens with such horrendous distortion? That’s flat out disrespectful. Is like selling a crop lens for a full frame! 🤦🏻♂️ Oh Canon please stop!
Congrats on 20k Ralph!! Alli and Will thank you!
Great insights on this lens, exactly what I needed to know. Thanks!
Congrats on 20k mate 😎👌! I dont use canon - but other concept are similar so i always appreciate and understand the debate (nick)
As usual, short, concise and accurate! Great job!!
Clóvis Alves thank you as always :)
Big congrats on 20K subscribers! Well-deserved and many more on the way
Food and Footprints thank you!
Great review! Thanks Ralph
Yes this would be a good all in one lens for travel. Thanks for the review
Love the way you explain.
To the point
Nice review 💛 thanks for sharing!
Great video and great comparison. Thank you for this.
good review/comparison! you are doing a great job! as consumers, your kind of videos are so useful and helpful!
Thanks a lot for a very concise and objective review!
Thanks for making this video , I like it . And I find your review is very helpful and useful to me. I already order one with the eos rp combo.

Rizky Pratama yeah never really been a fan of 24-70s. Too big for comfort and not long enough for convenience...
@@HyunRalphJeong Well I do like 24-70 in combinaison with some primes.

@@PAD32 This !
Is it just me or at 3:58 with both lenses at 200% magnification the 24-240 has better contrast and color and sharpness?!?

F6 at 105. I think I will pass. can you compare the RF 35 F/1.8 to the EF 35 f/2?
I appreciate your review, it suits me for a travel lens, with the RP.
Yes I think it's a great choice for travelling, if you don't need low light performance or extreme bokeh
hey, long time. and congrats on 20k. wow. you have grown big. so happy for you. all the best and happy new year to you. ^^
Cartooon THAT Thank you very much! Happy new year to you
Great review. Thank you
Nice comparison. Hope you will have a lot of videos comparing the images between lens like this. Thanks a lot.

hello Hyun. Is the vignetting only in RAW images.... I only shoot jpegs with my new R5 so if that is the case I will get this lens. Thanks. G
Just ordered this as my second RF. Thanks!
Hi Folks. The latest upmarket Canon cameras correct the distortion in camera for both raw as well as JPEG with no effect on the shooting speed. BobUK
Cool review!!
thanks for sharing!
Also congrats on 20k!! Hopefully I can get there one day!
Toronto Eats thank you! You’ll get there in no time
Hooray for Lake Balboa, one of my favorite places to shoot. Did you see any hawks there that day?
How is video quality and stabilization beyond 105
I honestly would go 24-105mm but then its a personal preference
why?
Very helpful, I thank you.

Wow that's a great price when getting it with the camera. Now you are tempting us
Would this lens work well for videoing wildlife at first/last light??? If not, what would be your recommendation?
The f4 can be a walk around lens for pro photographers at events. This is more for a travel walk around photographer for personal use.
The 24-105 is a better choice even for personal use, if you don't need that extra reach.

Great review Ralph
I would love to see a EOS Rp/24-105 full review as well

That set weights the same as my 70-200 f2.8 VC without camera body... Really cool.
Talking about the picture quality and zoom. What is better? That lens on rp, or the nikon p900 camera? Both jpg, since p900 can't shoot raw.
Would this lens fit on the 6d mark ii?
The Mamuchos no this is RF mount only(EOS R/RP)
Oooo that's a sexy lens for $900 especially in the kit with the rp but wholly molly man the thing is massive and pretty heavy 😅

Canon r8
Yep.. r8 with 16mm , 35mm and 85mm
Ha ha.. R8

lmao, the name explains it all lol. The 24-105 is simply too close in price.
different purposes.
24-105
Yooooo Balboa Park!
Although Canon makes excellent glass but have never really come out with a sexy superzoom
Physics is a bitch.
Renato Custódio Pereira somewhere it leaked they was a 24-180F2.8 or something in the works canon might be working on something crazy.
Because of it not having the sharpness of the 24-105mm I’ll stay away from the 24-240mm. I can just crop in on the 24-105mm and get about the same zoom results. Plus I’ll have the extra light and avoid the vignetting. Pictures, for video is a different story.
Price vs quality... price is too high, better to stay (or buy) 24-105 for travel photography.
It’s about £950! Sheesh!
Aaaaaaand Best Buy has pulled it from its website. :O(
