    Your review sums up my feelings on this lens as well - it's just fun to use. I'd usually take three lenses on a hike but recently started bringing just this one. It's so nice not to have to switch lenses frequently. Is it an L-level? I guess not - but for what I do, it doesn't need to be. Really underappreciated lens!

      Hi Kenneth, great that you enjoy using the lens. For my style of travel/stock photography it is so easy to use and gives great reults. I wish you many enjoyable hikes with this one!

    Thanks for the detailed review. I have been toying with the idea of replacing my trusty old D5100 with a mirrorless Canon (I pursue photography purely as a hobby), but somehow am not inclined to go for an R6 type of a camera. The EOS RP+ 24-240 gives me a tantalizing option of going FF because the other option I was thinking up until this time was the Fuji XT-4, but by all accounts the Canon system looks better (and cheaper) !

      many thanks for sharing your thoughts. By all accounts the XT4 is a superb camera. But having said that I really like the RP 24-240mm lens combo. Not for wildlife or sport though. But the wide reach and the image quality for photos impressed me. The lens however is not cheap. I think they make a kit 24-105mm F4-F71. for a lower price.

    If you're getting loans from Canon you're really coming up in the world! Good to hear about this camera. That would be a major financial investment from a lot of perspectives, going from crop sensor to full frame, you'd have to get all new lenses. That's why I"m sticking with my kit too!

      I think they felt sorry for me Kitty :-). At the moment, it's too much of an investment for me considering i'd probably go with the R6. But one day maybe.

    Thanks for sharing. I got a EOS R model with old EF lens. The image stablization so far is not great. The test results for this new RF 24-240 with 5 stop IS seems the perfect choice for me to upgrade

    Hi Andrew, enjoyed your review of the lens but more than that I loved your photos that you took with Canon RP and 24-240mm lens. In my, personal experience such lenses are always going to be a compromise unless you are prepared to spend thousands of euros for a fixed aperture par focal lenses as used in broadcast work. Some years ago I made a mistake of buying the lens you mentioned Nikon 18-300mm for my Nikon DX body. It was a disaster. I might have picked up a bad one but whatever the case might have been I just didn’t like it. Some of the images I had taken with that lens are on SS but to be honest, anything below f8 had slightly softer focus. So, I sold it quickly,. That was over 10 years ago and I am very aware that the technology is changing fast. This Canon lens looks quite promising. I think I will stick to my Canon 24-105 f4 and 70-210 f4 for the time being for all the video work. Thanks again for another interesting video.

      HI Nishi, thanks for the kind words about my photos. It's so interesting that you had the 18-300 Nikon and also that it didn't deliver for you. I also enjoy my fixed aperture lenses, but when i'm out travelling around, it would be great to have one lens to do it all. The Canon 24-105 f4 is also a great lens and also very flexible - hard to go past. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! and all the very best!

    Thank you for the review. It's difficult to get a sharp image when atmospheric haze is distorting an image on the tele end of the lens. I have an RP also and was planning to get this lens but then I have a collection of EF/EF-S lenses. Do you shoot RAW in all your pictres?

    Thanks a lot for your review! As a fellow stock photographer (in NL) you helped me made the decision you buy this lens. It will arrive tomorrow and I will pair it with an R6. I am looking forward to making photos. I am curious about the results. I bought it not for the image quality but for the versatility of the lens. I hope that it helps not to walk around with multiple lenses anymore 😀

    Hi Andrew, this was the first of your videos that I watched: got to it whilst looking for reviews on the lens. Great info, thank you. The video sparked another question though: is it honestly worth it to do Stock (now in 2024)? Does one make any worthwhile money doing this, or is it just a way of getting some financial benefit from photography you were going to do anyway?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338

      hello, thanks for telling me how you found my channel. I enjoy stock photography because i get something tangible back for all the time I put into taking pics. I live in another country from where I grew up. So I was looking for something to replace my tight knit friendship circle that I lost when I moved. Photography did that and stock photography helped me show something for it. However, it is a lot harder now. even harder than one year ago. But you get out of it what you put in. If you are looking to upload 1000 images and a handful of clips and sit on it you won't do well. I have a job, a family and a youtube channel i'm trying to grow. I try to live a balanced life so my time is limited. I average about 60 bucks a month and now only work a few hours in a month to stock. I wish I had more time to do it because I think my earnings would go up. Hope this helps! Let me know your thoughts 🙂

      @@andrewbalcombe1338 Thanks for the reply, Andrew. I’m a wildlife photographer that moved from South Africa to Melbourne a few years ago. I’m looking at other subjects now to expand my horizons, if you will. It’s a hobby for me, but it would be pretty good to recoup some of the money I’ve thrown willingly into the photography money pit! My personal view is that the heyday of stock is over, but who knows what may happen with AI’s need to ingest ever more images?

    How do you fix the issues of the lens when it comes to video? photos are easy to fix but are you able to remove chromatic ab., lens distortion etc in resolve or premiere?

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  2 года назад

      That is an excellent question. I didn't test the lens for chromatic abberations etc for video though unfortunately. I think a certain amount can be handled by the in-camera settings. And I know that it's also possible to adjust the colours in AdobePP to reduce magenta and greens, but I haven't done this myself.

    I simply do NOT understand. For ages ALL reviews are about optical quality and then we test the ultimo's of the lens, always looking immediately into sharpness, vignetting, aberrations and barrel distortion. And when a lens scored bad in these areas - woooo the lens manufacturor. And now, with Canon trying to get all their DLSR EF(S) body and lens owners onto the R patform - now this isn't an issue any more - for software can easily correct this?
    WHAT a NONSENSE. A) You're dependent on the in-camera JPG generation and - let's face it - that's not ideal. B) you HAVE TO post-process EVERY raw image. Well: that works quite well when shooting 1.000 images on your wild life trip, holiday, football match or wedding shoot. Any idea how time that's going to cost you? Or how advanced your automatic correcting port-procesisng workflow must be?
    WTF. Generating a strong, decent, directly OK raw file REMAINS to be very very relevant and this lens SUCKs at this.
    I'm ranting for I beleieve these type of Hooray! video reviews are either bad reviews or we're looking at marketing sponsored rubbish.
    And I'm ranting for Canon will simply not UP their game when we - as photograpghers - buy into this BS of accepting very poor optical performance of their newest lenses.
    I'm sticking to my R system adaptor and the ES, ES-F, L series, Sigma Sports and Tamron high quality lenses and DO NOT buy into this poor quality trap.

    • @andrewbalcombe1338
      @andrewbalcombe1338  18 дней назад

      Thanks for your input. I agree that the lens has issues. But on the other side, I stand by my review and if I had the money I would buy it. The editing for stock photography is a pain in general, but most of the issues of the lens are taken care of by the time I import into Lightroom. So I don't have to spend more than the normal amount of time editing. I really like this lens for travel and general stock work. My aimed for stock general set up would be this lens and the Canon R8.
