I got this guitar 6 months ago as my first guitar and I am having so much fun. When I first held this in my hand as a guy who never played guitar in his life, the guitar "spoke" to me. I love the open pore wood and the all black finish neck through design which includes the rear of the guitar. One thing I noticed at the guitar store when I was touching all the guitars, is that despite the price of the RGRT421, the bottom fret edges aren't sharp. In fact, they are almost as smooth as some of the other high end guitars! Idk if this is the case of all RGRT421, but the one I got has one of the smoothest frets I've ever touched at that price point. I modded the guitar to suit the songs I play and I got the DiMarzio Super Distortion for the bridge, and changed out the strings to the D'Adario XS strings. I am totally gonna mod this further and keep it. I love everything about this guitar. Next mods, neck pickup (potentially a DiMarzio PAF Pro) and Gotoh tuners!
got this guitar for xmas abt 2-3 yrs ago now. started with a fender before that but this guitar rlly boosted my guitar skills due to the amount of time i played it, simply due to how much i love this guitar. would defo recommend and will be buying from ibanez again!
I got the 421QM, I stained the fretboard and replace the pole piece screws with black ones. Killer. I agree with you, incredible value at this price point.
Fully agree man. To me nothing feels as great as an Ibanez neck. To me hands down Ibanez is the best. No matter what level point Ibanez gives you and makes a quality product. As you are showing here. I like to work on guitars and customize them so I always get the RG and S series standard models and mod them by upgrading them with locking tuners and Bridges. I use Hipshot. Although the F106 bridge is a great bridge. I also upgrade the pickups to Dimarzio or Seymour Duncan's and as you stated use the graphtech nuts. But a heads up to you on the newer Ibanez standard models. I just recently purchased a RG421 TCM which is awesome. As I was swapping the nut and inspecting the old one and doing the famous drop test. And everyone will say I am crazy and I know the spec list the nut as plastic on merchant's websites, but it already was the PT-6643-00 graphtech nut. Try it yourself if you change the nut. Do the drop test and see if it does that same nice bouncy glass sounding drop. Plus the graphtech tusq nut is plastic and PTFE material. It is not actually tusq. That is not legal. So see for yourself. But fully agree on Ibanez and great video. Keep jamming man.
Thanks for your insight man, I’ll keep that in mind👍 Out of all the guitars I’ve had my hands on during the years, nothing beats an Ibanez neck for me🙌
06:46 I disagree man. The clean playing was gorgeous 🤣The in between positions all sound very sweet. You can definitely do some 90s alternative with them. Great review.
I chanced the bridge pickup to Seymour Duncan Distortion and it sounds f*cking awesome. Tuning is C# and strings 58-13. I'm planning to upgrade locking tuners and it will be a monster.
I've got this great Ibanez guitar but mine is in the now discontinued walnut flat. It's an outstanding guitar for the money, not going to change a thing on mine. Love the quantum pickups and the neck is to die for. I'd suggest if anyone is thinking of getting one, get it now before they discontinue the black version too! Enjoy that guitar my good man!!! Ps.. its actually a graphite nut.
@@marciopaivaRS I don’t have another RG to compare with, but I would asume all Wizzard 3 neck profiles Are exactly the same shape and thickness yes. It only makes sense in todays world with cc tech production.
I actually experienced the same thing. I just recently purchased a RG421 TCM which is awesome. But as I was changing the nut to a graphtech tusq LX. The one that came stock was already a graphtech tusq LX. Looked and felt exactly the same. Even did the nice bounce and glass type sound when comparing them side by side on the drop test. No difference at all. Glad to here someone else say that, because everyone is telling me no I'm crazy. So I wound up changing the nut for nothing.
I have the same, Pretty good value, the finish is a bit fragile but I managed to take good care of it. Ibanez updated this guitar in 2024, they removed the pickup rings.
Yupp, I got the one without the rings🤘 Haven’t had it long enough to see the issues with the finish yet, but the look of a well used guitar never bothered me as long as it still sounds killer😅
Feks. Tune your open E string, then check if fret 12 is also tuned correctly to E. If not it’s not intonated and you must adjust the stringlenght so Fret 12 i exactly in the middle of the nut and the bridge😊
love the guitar. however there is no mahogany on there. its Nyatoh it is similar to mahogany in look and character but its an Asian Hardwood.. just because it identifies as mahogany doesn't mean it actually is!!! that does not change how awesome the guitar is. great video
@PKViking I love me a good ole bolty boy, but I admit that smooth transition is something I've been missing in my life, plus the ibanez neck.....oh man how I miss that sweet ass neck. Ibanez was my first love, maybe it's time to go back to her. .... I do own a solar, but honestly fuck a floyd rose.

Bought it in 2019 still playing it today and it feels the same as new .
I am very glad to hear it🙌 Makes it easier for me to invest in nut and locking tuners knowing it’s gonna stay great🙏
Frets still there?

Very nice guitar with the inverted headstock exactly how i like them ;)I really want to buy another Ibanez.
Hell yeah, it looks great🙌
Best unique feature of this guitar is the dichroic fretboard...from a toasted maple to a waxy ebony...

If you like EMGs they make this guitar solid overall. Maybe some Hipshot hardware, that's it.

is the neck thickness the same as other bolt on RGs?

@marciopaivaRS Hi, yes it's the same. It's a wizard III.
Bro, are u sure it comes with a plastic nut? I bought one and I’d swear it isn’t plastic! Regardless, I’m loving it! Great guitar, great deal!
I’m loving the guitar too! Yes, I just double checked at gear4music where I bought it. Nut material: PPS = Polyphenylene Sulfide = plastic
