Thank you for explaining a very confusing and to me a neck jerking course correction. A musing regarding the change to the Ministering concept would be interesting.
@@cboyack Looking forward to that. President Hinkley gave his blessings to use the name Mormon. He said the meaning of that word as "More Good". I still use the title of Mormon far more than the long name.
It’s Nelson who had an issue , us being called anything than using the “full name of the church”, not LDS, not Mormons etc. he wanted it changed over 25 yrs ago and then President Hinkley put Russel in his place as wanting to change the emphasis used as MORMONS at the time. Nelson left his office that day with his tail between his legs with Hirt feelings. Loved how Hinkley thought being called a Mormon was no big deal, and why should we fear the name… bit Nelson has made it his mission to out do everything Hinkley did, push for the name, trying to out do Hinkley in temple building . It’s almost seems vengeful ! Loved President Hinkley, probably my favorite Prophet
….. has nothing to do with outdoing Hinckley haha if you listened to Nelson’s talk about this topic, it’s purely to emphasize “Jesus Christ” more. People think Mormons aren’t Christians, (which, whatever think what you want) but many people think Mormons don’t have anything to do with Jesus. It’s to promote Jesus name, and the fact that Jesus leads the church
So excited about the books! We’ve bought all of yours over the years and what I thought would be a great and entertaining education for my kids turned out to be an education for me! 😅
I read Mere Christianity years ago and it made a profound influence in me. It was great. Some members of the Church, either have closed minds to anything written by "non-Mormons," or they think it a tragedy that they did not accept the Gospel. If C.S. Lewis had joined the Church, he would not have been able to influence the myriads of people that he did. There are many people who are influencing others for good, who do not join the Church because that is not their mission in life, They are doing exactly what they agreed to do before they came to earth. I am excited to hear about your new book series!
I like the book idea, it was interesting when you were reading the excerpt out of the critical thinking book it reminded me of how being raised LDS was at home & in church lessons and meetings. We are not taught to think we are taught to obey and follow.
@@rickfowlks7296you say that as if those 2 things are diametrically opposed, when they actually go more hand in hand. Brigham said the *FIRST* principle was obedience. He never said the second principle was blindly following. In fact in D&C 9 we are told to study it out in our minds. At the same time there are circumstances where we are asked to obey and act on faith (or as you would say, “blindly follow”). I promise you the children of Israel who looked upon the fiery serpent and lived, were grateful they obediently acted in faith while those who criticized them for “blindly following” died thereafter.
The importance of checking original sources can not be overstated. I have seen so many citations used by historians and academics that are inaccurate. Love this episode!
Not sure how to ask for a topic. I tried finding if you have done it on your Sunday Musings site. This 5th Sunday we talked about Patriarchal Blessings. I wanted to know the history and how much is culture of the church. I know in the BoM in 2Nephi Lehi gives blessings. But is that just a father's blessing. What is the difference between the two?
Bob Jones, the founder of the well-known Evangelical/Fundamentalist University that bears his name, is reputed to have said about CS Lewis: “You know, that man smokes and drinks. But I DO believe he is a Christian!” 😂
My wife just got me the Costco CS Lewis set as I peruse used book stores for copies and gift them often. This new set will be my journal set. Write in the margins of your books! They’re yours.
I figured $1 a month for tithing preserves the very act of it and that i have paid way more than adequate-overpaid- and the yearly correct and heart-felt answer to my bishop is “yes”, still, although my contributions were challenged and questioned by the Bishopric and the finance secretary. Salvation is in the Heart between two people, my God and myself.
Pay your tithing and all contributions direct to the church HDQTR’s then no one at the ward level need know your income! Of course all who are involved in handling money at the ward level it’s all held in confidence…🙄🙄🙄, and then when they are rotated out every 2-5 years, then a new batch to “hold in confidence “. Soon the entire ward may know your income! Not the greatest of systems, for privacy!
I read "Mere Christianity" several years ago and was not impressed. Too many theological disagreements. His book series "The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe" is really good.
Connor Love your new books. Short to the point books and videos that make a memorable truth a teaching lesson, easily understood works best. Such as "As a Man Thinketh" James Allen, H. Verlan Andersen "Many Are Called", Norman Vincent Peale. G.K. Chesterton “Without education, we are in a horrible and deadly danger of taking educated people seriously.” “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive" C S Lewis. “Question Everything” Socrates.
Forty (plus) years ago I lived in the Cambridge, Massachusetts Ward. It might just be memory, but it feels like C.S. Lewis was quoted as much as the Book of Mormon. Coincidentally, or maybe not, Mitt Romney was a member of the Stake Presidency at that time. I leave it you to draw your own conclusions.
Mitt Romney the biggest fraud as a good LDS boy, he along with Biden’s corrupt financial Ukraine dealings. Romney pretending to be a conservative , the man who saved the 2002 Winter Olympics, all turned out also to be a scam on voters

I appreciate much of your content, both written and media. Why do you resist though using the word LDS rather than Mormon?
Next week I’m doing a musing on that.

Well said.

I like this except for the books being promoted on a Sunday.
So watch it on Monday.....
"The Lord often teaches using extreme circumstances to illustrate a principle." Elder Robbins April 2005 General Conference
Is this Elder Robbin's opinion or did he cite a significant, relevant source?

I haven't watched it yet, but I predict CS Lewis will easily top the list.
What is a church that attempts to control what it's members wear, drink, and how much to pay for salvation or exaltation?
Is C.S. Lewis correct?

The Great Divorce is comparable to The Screwtape Letters, imho. The Problem of Pain is also very good.
Wisdom of the world vs wisdom of the spirit

actually.... it was Jesus
Nah, he’s a Mormon technically, since he runs the show.

Jesus is a Mormon and Christian
Jesus, was neither a Mormon nor a Christian. He was a Jew, a Near East olive skinned man who was rebellion against the status quo.
If members of the Church of Jesus Christ didn’t quote Jesus Christ, there would be something really wrong.
C S Lewis was my guess
Snooze festival.
