In D&C (will get back with you for section and verse), the Lord said it doesn’t matter what we use for Sacrament (water), as long as we partake of the Sacrament in remembrance of him.
During the sacrament I often express gratitude in my heart to Heavenly Father for his son Jesus. I sometimes ask that I be able to show my gratitude by being willing to stand up like a man like he did. I ponder on how I can perform my duties like he did during the new week. I review my goals in life. The sacrament gives me a chance to think simply about life without all of the murkiness of life blurring up the view.

What does the Sacrament mean to you? To answer your question, I always appreciated the knowledge that when I take the sacrament I’m renewing my covenants that I made with Christ when I was baptized. It is as if I am born again/re-baptized and made new. It gives me strength and protection during the week…I can feel the peaceful power it brings. During covid lockdown, when we had permission to receive the sacrament at home, it was an even more sacred and incredible experience to have the emblems of Christ’s body before me, covered in white cloth. It hit hard, as if Christ’s body lay before me…that he had died because of me, to save my life…nothing like the feeling He had died and I was at fault for His death…it was a tender moment where I was overcome with love from God and wanted to live a better life because he died for me. In that moment the reality that the sacrament service is like a sacred funeral service with Christs body laid before us. He suffered and died for me and you and everyone. He did it because He loves us more than we can know. We sometimes get glimpses of that love, especially during quiet moments of reflection, like during the sacrament.
I love your story brother. I was rebaptized into the church on April 20th, 2024. I watched your journey as I was getting ready to return to church. It’s helped so many people.
I’m so glad to hear that, Brother Matt! I went through a tough time, too. I didn’t leave the church, but I was close. I returned to activity and have been active ever since. The Church is true, Brother.
How interesting ! Your continuing metaphor of walking on the water and getting further away from the boat is brilliant....and spot on. Years ago I was working for a company where I was the director of operations for their smallest plant which was in Utah. That became very successful, so they transferred me to their largest plant in North Carolina (after 3 years). When I got there my boss (from Chicago) came down and we had dinner. I had taken on considerable more responsibility so I told my boss that we would need to be working more closely together. He agreed. Then I said, "Ken, you will really never understand me until you understand the LDS Church." He blinked and invited me to go ahead and say what was on my mind. I told him that I was ordained when I was 12 and from that point on I was taught about leadership and followership and how to tell the difference. I told him I had been a deacon and that as a little boy of 13 I was made the quorum president and expected to conduct the deacons meeting (under the tutelage of an elder). His immediate response was, "Gee, I have a 12-year-old and I can't get him out of bed in the morning." This was started because he was praising the leadership I had shown in the assignment that got me this promotion. I made clear that what he was talking about all started because I was ordained to be a deacon at age 12. And, to this day, I sincerely believe that was the genesis of the success during my 51 years in manufacturing. I have a mechanical engineering degree and an MBA...but it all really started as a deacon.
Beautiful. I appreciate your testimony and personal experience as I have two sons who I need to help raise on the covenant path. My husband is not a member of the Church and I've been wondering how to prepare my 6 and 4yo for their future Priesthood duties. Yes, times are turbulent and many are wondering WHY they should hold on to the iron rod (which is the handrail just to right of the Covenant Path)...After 51 years in manufacturing and in the "world" I can unequivocally say that the training I have had in the Church prepared me for that world every bit as much as higher education and post-graduate education. I was asked to give presentations for Fortune 500 companies BECAUSE I could..the reason I could is because of what I learned as a teenager in the Church. I did not grow up in the Church in any traditional way. I asked my mother if there was "one of those places Aunt Betty took me to" anywhere close to us (I didn't even know it was called a church). My parents were not anti-church...but they weren't exactly pro-church, either. So I started going by my own decision when I was four and never looked back. My parents didn't really become active until after my mission...which was my choice as well. But I view those experiences and the training I received as crucial to my entire later life (where I was very successful in my profession). Please write if I can help in any other way.
You mentioned preaching about Mary. I know it’s rare. I’m a Presbyterian minister and I gave a sermon about Mary a couple years ago during the Advent season. It was part of a sermon series about the members of Jesus’ family tree. When you get past the Protestant stigma, Mary is really an inspirational woman. She took a HUGE risk to answer God’s call. Without her there is no Jesus!
Especially when you think of all the things our Father in Heaven trusted Mary to teach young Jesus so that he might grow " in favor with God and man". That is a lot!
I agree, Mary is a VERY inspirational woman. Sometimes I look at Mary’s standing with God as attainable in this life whereas Jesus, being perfect, feels more or less unattainable in this life. Mary and Joseph did their best for Jesus, therefore I can do my best to follow and be more like Jesus.
David, I love your videos. I too am a convert to the Church. I previously attended a small rural Methodist Church. I converted at the age of 17 and that was 56 years ago. My life has been blessed by adhering to the principles taught in the Church. I have gained an understanding of the sacrament by letting my mind and heart think about our Savior himself breaking, blessing and passing it to me. I further think as I pass the trays to the person sitting next to me as part of my obligation to love and serve those around me, even helping them along the covenant path. Please keep up this great work in helping our brothers and sisters find their Savior. God bless.

As a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I have possibly taken parts of this ordinance for granted and not understood it like you explain. I always try to remember that the Priesthood is not something we can earn, it is a gift from God. Honoring the priesthood takes on real meaning when we remember from whence it came.

The LA Temple is the Temple I was sealed in. I have been married for 32 years and me and my husband and I are Temple workers. I absolutely love it so much! The Temple is a place of peace! It's been so amazing to be baptized into Heavenly Father's church! Best decision I ever made!
I miss seeing that temple every Sunday. I spent 5 years living out in LA county. And I'd make a trip out there even when I didn't have my temple recommend to just sit and contemplate and sometimes I would write while I was sitting there. It's so peaceful and so beautiful. Your musings about the sacrament and how it was like the marriage traditions blew me away because I JUST finished watching a RUclips video from Stick of Joseph called The Hidden Hebrew Wedding Ritual and The Temple. It is all about all the wedding references in the scriptures and how they match up with the ancient Hebrew wedding traditions and why Christ is always called the Bridegroom and the Church is called the Bride and that relationship. You have GOT to see that one!!
I was baptized and joined the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 15, 2024. I was confirmed on June 16. I was ordained priest on June 23. I was sustained in my calling as Ward Organist on June 23 as well. I love the Church. The Sacrament - I love the Sacrament, because it reminds me of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. One of the reasons (IMHO) that we as Latter-day Saints celebrate Mother’s Day in our sacrament meetings is to show the young women how much we reverence motherhood. We do the same on Father’s Day for an example to the young men.
As a Brazilian I’ve been a member my whole life and I love to see how the church is exactly the same anywhere in the world even here in US where I now live. My parents are serving a mission in Mozambique-Africa and it’s all the same there too, besides cultural differences from people to people, but the hearts and amazing experiences they receive comes the same way, through obedience to the covenants of God and the disposition to learn and serve. I’ve also seen my brothers getting the priesthood and now my son - my dad, husband, uncles and grandfathers also have/had it but I wasn’t around when they got it for obvious reasons - and I can see how strong a family, individual and a relationship with God can be through the responsibilities that comes with it. I love the Lord, the church and I love the priesthood! I also much enjoyed your analogy with the ancient marriage in Israel and the sacrament. Thank you for sharing your inspired insights from the Holy Ghost that I know you receive in your efforts on learning more and more every day. I wonder how much more wonders the Lord will reveal to those who are willing to learn and follow. Thank you!!

Love the additional symbolism you found. I love looking back to Jewish traditions and the rich symbolism that is still apart of the gospel. It solidifies my faith that this truly is the Lord’s restored gospel and the ancient Jews belong to the same Faith as us today.
Wow! I never knew about the wedding cup! That was an awesome explanation of what it represents! It absolutely makes the sacrament even more meaningful! I always focus on the part where it says “to always remember him and have is spirit be with them” I know Jesus Christ knows me personally and that is wonderful that he knows each of us personally. So much so that the guy who painted the garden room in the Manti temple was inspired to paint that cardinal in the 1940’s so that YOU could see it in 2024! God knew that it would help YOU!! It is an absolute blessing to partake of the sacrament each week. I begin preparing on Saturday evening by reading Alma 5 and review what I need to do better in the coming week. As far as now being a priesthood holder - I am so very happy for you! You have been given power and authority that can be traced right back to the Lord. As a sister in the gospel for my entire life, I have always had the priesthood in my home - either my dad, or my husband and sons.There is safety and security in seeing the way the Lord has his Church organized. It is such a delight watching you grow with understanding.
Something else to consider when looking at the symbolism of the sacrament. Notice we do not give wafers or crackers. We literally tear the bread at the sacrament table, symbolic of the flesh of Christ being torn for us. We remember the symbolism.
@@DesertPrimrose Respectfully, it does matter to many of us. The church uses bread because Jesus is the bread of life and His life was torn for us. That is a symbolism with profound meaning. Yes, whatever we have santified could be used. Bread was chosen for a reason. It is more a symbol than a tradition in my opinion.
I love your videos and your journey. I felt the Spirit, especially when the kids were singing. I know it's been said a million times, but one of my favorite benefits of the Sacrament is that we literally renew our baptismal covenants each week! And we are cleansed and purified each week by the Holy Ghost by taking the Sacrament. To really put that in perspective is amazing and it's why it's vital to attend sacrament each week. All thanks and praise to our Savior for giving us that opportunity every week.

Hello David, Thank you for all of your interesting and helpful podcasts. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. I have loved learning about other churches and appreciate your kindness and respect for those religions. Coming unto Christ is the focus of your podcast and I love that. My husband and I are serving in the Nauvoo Pageant Leadership and would love to invite you to come to Nauvoo during the Pageant this year.. The pageant is held from July 9th through August 3rd. The pageants are held on Tuesday through Saturday. There is a British Pageant on Wednesday and Friday and the Nauvoo Pageant is held Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There's also a dress rehearsal for the British pageant on Monday night that people are welcome to attend. The spirit of these pageants is incredible. They tell the story of the building up of Nauvoo and also the missionaries who went to England to preach and their travels to come to Nauvoo and help with the building of the Nauvoo temple. Los Angeles Temple is where I had the gift of the endowment. It is a very large temple. It was the only one around when I was growing up. When I was a teenager, the San Diego Temple came online. I was sealed in the Nauvoo Temple and that was extraordinary. I’ve visited so many more as I’ve traveled. I’m so happy watching as your making choices in your spiritual growth. Thank you for your videos because they really help support me and some of the hard times. It’s very uplifting.

I need to finish watching that episode! I had been researching Jewish traditions regarding the Sacrament, then same day as I was recording this is when the Stick of Joseph episode dropped with the ancient Hebrew wedding rituals. I watched maybe 10 minutes and will watch more later - since it sounded fascinating. One thing I cut, but was equally interesting regarding ancient Jewish customs was a mikveh. It was like a ritual immersion that a bride and groom would do before the wedding to achieve spiritual cleanness - exactly like baptism. I'm no Jewish scholar and need to learn/understand more, but the customs and rituals of Jewish marriage that then became key rituals in Christianity (like baptism and the sacrament) feels like quite the rabbit hole.
I love taking the Lord's sacrament and focusing on His life and choices. I hope to be able to live like Him, as much as it is possible in this fallen world! I'm grateful for the weekly renewal of my faith and testimony of the Lord. Thank you for moving forward and not letting the criticism of the few slow you down. Your testimony strengthens mine.
I gave a talk about the women in the life of Christ for Mother's Day last year and the first woman I mentioned was Mary and how Jesus' last act before declaring "it is finished" was to make sure his mother was taken care of. I emphasized how important it was that he did it on the cross where he would have had difficulty breathing let alone talking so it was important to him. He could have made it easy on himself and simply waited till Easter to tell John to take care of his mom but didn't.

I've been a member my whole life and I've never heard of the symbolism described in that way. Taking the sacrament every week for your whole life can make it feel mundane and repetitive, but that really helps my perspective. Thank you so much for your videos.
Nice analogies of the Sacrament to the Savior and the marriage covenant. Congratulations on your ordination to the Priesthood. After my conversion years ago, it took awhile learning the details of my new faith. I had been a catholic before. Some things transferred well in terminology, but were different in a new sense.
That was awesome! I haven't heard from you since your 1st round (year), and I am not very surprised, but so happy for you that you have been baptized! It seemed to me that you were looking at me during your portrayal of thoughts, and I was nodding my head as if I was your only congregation. There is more than you realize in our Church, and it is fun for me to share with you your travels and thoughts and joy. You have that unique way of explaining, even though you are still somewhat unfamiliar what to expect, you are certainly thinking and doing what I should have been all of my life. The children are learning to be confident while singing in front of the ward or branch they are in, and learning music and songs while doing so. When they are of age they will be ready to leave their home to serve a 2-year or 18-month mission -- even though it is difficult on them and also their parents and siblings. But they learn SO MUCH -- how to serve, how to communicate with people as an adult, they often gain their own testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ during this time. You are an answer to prayer, and I am happy that this is your 3rd go-around of 52 weeks/52 churches. Keep it up!!! :)

Thank you David! I loved your description of increased faith as you leave the "Safety" of the familiar boat and walk with trust toward Christ..... Our young men build strong foundations of faith in Christ as they serve in the Priesthood, the Sacrament can be a powerful tool in our lives to keep our commitment to Christ fresh and new and to develop a transcending sense of gratitude for His love and sacrifice in our behalf....

@@stardustgirl2904 The LA temple was the 1st temple I went to when heading out on my mission. I served in Delaware/Maryland. My companion and I tied for the 1st baptisms from the DC temple. DC temple has a special place in my heart because that was when I received my first Testimony. And wow it was a life changer. The LA temple is special as it prepared me for my mission.
As a newly confirmed LDS member and a newly ordained Aaronic Priesthood recipient, he will soon enter the temple and can there perform Aaronic Priesthood ordinances primarily baptism. I am 77 yrs of age. My daughter in Utah takes me to various temples to do similar ordinances plus confirm as well. (my granddaughter is 12 so she brings along 2 or 3 friends)
I once gave a talk on symbolism in the sacrament when I was a teenager. I have learned so much more since then. Everything I learn draws me closer to my Savior. I’m so grateful He teaches me line upon line, precept upon precept , here a little and there a little.
The Sacrament is such a blessing to those who live their lives by faith, As you have said many times, "it's all about Christ". Having covenants and symbolism to help us learn how to have a closer and more loving relationship with our Heavenly Father is so often overlooked. We can't fully understand the power of Christ, but we act in faith and receive choice experiences accordingly. Quick verse for you today David on your continued knowledge journey - Alma 12:9

Great David. I be was baptized on April 2, 1966 (8 years old), and had the Aaronic Priesthood conferred on me on my birthday in March of 1970. Since then it has been a gradual upward climb, here a little and there a little. Walking by faith, by sight, and by following commandments, most of the time. I’m still climbing all these years later, still learning, and still growing. Keep it up.
Yes this church is becoming increasingly peculiar and stands alone in so many areas especially in doctrine and practices. I feel blessed to be a convert. Bless you for your humility.

I have often called many churches "pep-assembly religions." your shows have helped me deepen my own testimony of this church. I usually think of the sacrament as a replacement for the passover where Christ is the unblemished lamb. But I really love the imagery of the engagement ritual with the cup of wine. Understanding these layers of symbolism add such beautiful meaning to the sacrament. Thank you for your video!

Great video! Symbolism absolutely runs deep, what stands out to me with the latter-day Saints sacrament is the aspect of remember, that they will always remember. And it is it's difficult at times to be 100% in rememberance of our savior 100% in rememberance of Christ. When i converted and got my priesthood it's really fun and such a blessing to be able to pass or bless sacrament on sundays even though it's nerveracking the first few times, I'm actually being ordained to the melchizedek priesthood after church this Sunday and i'm pretty excited for it.

David, I cherish the sacrament. When I take the sacrament I focus in on what it means to take his name upon me and my soul. I also reflect upon his life and different miracles ✨️ he gave to his fellow brothers and sisters, by healing the sick and helping those in need. I als think of how scary it would be to allow people to hurt you as he was tortured and put on the cross!
When I take the sacrament, I think of the body of Christ as his outstretched arms that He understands all the hurt, heartaches and sorrows others have caused me and I tried to forgive. I picture him coming to comfort me. When I take the water…in the early days of the church they did use wine. But it said that he died of a broken heart. When they thrust through his side, the chambers of the heart burst put out water and blood. It is said that he literally died of a broken heart. I asked myself what I may have done this week to have broken his heart and continue to repent. ❤️🕊️🙏 I’ve enjoyed your journey. Thank you for being so sensitive and kind.

In D&C (will get back with you for section and verse), the Lord said it doesn’t matter what we use for Sacrament (water), as long as we partake of the Sacrament in remembrance of him.
During the sacrament I often express gratitude in my heart to Heavenly Father for his son Jesus. I sometimes ask that I be able to show my gratitude by being willing to stand up like a man like he did. I ponder on how I can perform my duties like he did during the new week. I review my goals in life. The sacrament gives me a chance to think simply about life without all of the murkiness of life blurring up the view.
David, you are so loved by the members of the church (LDS)! YOU ARE A GREAT BLESSING and we are so amazed at your beautiful testimony and faithfulness!!! God bless you! ❤
What does the Sacrament mean to you? To answer your question, I always appreciated the knowledge that when I take the sacrament I’m renewing my covenants that I made with Christ when I was baptized. It is as if I am born again/re-baptized and made new. It gives me strength and protection during the week…I can feel the peaceful power it brings.
During covid lockdown, when we had permission to receive the sacrament at home, it was an even more sacred and incredible experience to have the emblems of Christ’s body before me, covered in white cloth. It hit hard, as if Christ’s body lay before me…that he had died because of me, to save my life…nothing like the feeling He had died and I was at fault for His death…it was a tender moment where I was overcome with love from God and wanted to live a better life because he died for me. In that moment the reality that the sacrament service is like a sacred funeral service with Christs body laid before us. He suffered and died for me and you and everyone. He did it because He loves us more than we can know. We sometimes get glimpses of that love, especially during quiet moments of reflection, like during the sacrament.
It means another chance. It reminds me of my saviour's broken body, and his split blood.

How interesting ! Your continuing metaphor of walking on the water and getting further away from the boat is brilliant....and spot on. Years ago I was working for a company where I was the director of operations for their smallest plant which was in Utah. That became very successful, so they transferred me to their largest plant in North Carolina (after 3 years). When I got there my boss (from Chicago) came down and we had dinner. I had taken on considerable more responsibility so I told my boss that we would need to be working more closely together. He agreed. Then I said, "Ken, you will really never understand me until you understand the LDS Church." He blinked and invited me to go ahead and say what was on my mind. I told him that I was ordained when I was 12 and from that point on I was taught about leadership and followership and how to tell the difference. I told him I had been a deacon and that as a little boy of 13 I was made the quorum president and expected to conduct the deacons meeting (under the tutelage of an elder). His immediate response was, "Gee, I have a 12-year-old and I can't get him out of bed in the morning." This was started because he was praising the leadership I had shown in the assignment that got me this promotion. I made clear that what he was talking about all started because I was ordained to be a deacon at age 12. And, to this day, I sincerely believe that was the genesis of the success during my 51 years in manufacturing. I have a mechanical engineering degree and an MBA...but it all really started as a deacon.

Yes, times are turbulent and many are wondering WHY they should hold on to the iron rod (which is the handrail just to right of the Covenant Path)...After 51 years in manufacturing and in the "world" I can unequivocally say that the training I have had in the Church prepared me for that world every bit as much as higher education and post-graduate education. I was asked to give presentations for Fortune 500 companies BECAUSE I could..the reason I could is because of what I learned as a teenager in the Church. I did not grow up in the Church in any traditional way. I asked my mother if there was "one of those places Aunt Betty took me to" anywhere close to us (I didn't even know it was called a church). My parents were not anti-church...but they weren't exactly pro-church, either. So I started going by my own decision when I was four and never looked back. My parents didn't really become active until after my mission...which was my choice as well. But I view those experiences and the training I received as crucial to my entire later life (where I was very successful in my profession). Please write if I can help in any other way.

You mentioned preaching about Mary. I know it’s rare. I’m a Presbyterian minister and I gave a sermon about Mary a couple years ago during the Advent season. It was part of a sermon series about the members of Jesus’ family tree. When you get past the Protestant stigma, Mary is really an inspirational woman. She took a HUGE risk to answer God’s call. Without her there is no Jesus!
Especially when you think of all the things our Father in Heaven trusted Mary to teach young Jesus so that he might grow " in favor with God and man". That is a lot!

David, I love your videos. I too am a convert to the Church. I previously attended a small rural Methodist Church. I converted at the age of 17 and that was 56 years ago. My life has been blessed by adhering to the principles taught in the Church.
I have gained an understanding of the sacrament by letting my mind and heart think about our Savior himself breaking, blessing and passing it to me. I further think as I pass the trays to the person sitting next to me as part of my obligation to love and serve those around me, even helping them along the covenant path.

I always try to remember that the Priesthood is not something we can earn, it is a gift from God. Honoring the priesthood takes on real meaning when we remember from whence it came.

The LA Temple is the Temple I was sealed in. I have been married for 32 years and me and my husband and I are Temple workers. I absolutely love it so much! The Temple is a place of peace! It's been so amazing to be baptized into Heavenly Father's church! Best decision I ever made!
My lovely wife and I were also sealed in the Los Angeles Temple Oct. 27,1990. Such a lovely temple.
I miss seeing that temple every Sunday. I spent 5 years living out in LA county. And I'd make a trip out there even when I didn't have my temple recommend to just sit and contemplate and sometimes I would write while I was sitting there. It's so peaceful and so beautiful. David If you're looking for a word around the area to go visit, go drop in on the Long Beach 7th Ward. It's an awesome ward. It's the word that I spent almost 5 years in.
The Los Angeles Temple is the very first Temple I entered as a youth to do baptisms for the dead. The spirit was so strong, it knocked my socks off.

Your musings about the sacrament and how it was like the marriage traditions blew me away because I JUST finished watching a RUclips video from Stick of Joseph called The Hidden Hebrew Wedding Ritual and The Temple. It is all about all the wedding references in the scriptures and how they match up with the ancient Hebrew wedding traditions and why Christ is always called the Bridegroom and the Church is called the Bride and that relationship. You have GOT to see that one!!

I was baptized and joined the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on June 15, 2024. I was confirmed on June 16. I was ordained priest on June 23. I was sustained in my calling as Ward Organist on June 23 as well. I love the Church. The Sacrament - I love the Sacrament, because it reminds me of the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I am so happy and proud to be saved and be forgiven of my sins. Take care brother and have a blessed day.
I have been an organist since I was in jr high. I find the hymns, prelude, and postlude conduits to the Spirit. Such a blessing to have that calling.

One of the reasons (IMHO) that we as Latter-day Saints celebrate Mother’s Day in our sacrament meetings is to show the young women how much we reverence motherhood. We do the same on Father’s Day for an example to the young men.
As a Brazilian I’ve been a member my whole life and I love to see how the church is exactly the same anywhere in the world even here in US where I now live. My parents are serving a mission in Mozambique-Africa and it’s all the same there too, besides cultural differences from people to people, but the hearts and amazing experiences they receive comes the same way, through obedience to the covenants of God and the disposition to learn and serve. I’ve also seen my brothers getting the priesthood and now my son - my dad, husband, uncles and grandfathers also have/had it but I wasn’t around when they got it for obvious reasons - and I can see how strong a family, individual and a relationship with God can be through the responsibilities that comes with it. I love the Lord, the church and I love the priesthood! I also much enjoyed your analogy with the ancient marriage in Israel and the sacrament. Thank you for sharing your inspired insights from the Holy Ghost that I know you receive in your efforts on learning more and more every day. I wonder how much more wonders the Lord will reveal to those who are willing to learn and follow. Thank you!!

Love the additional symbolism you found. I love looking back to Jewish traditions and the rich symbolism that is still apart of the gospel. It solidifies my faith that this truly is the Lord’s restored gospel and the ancient Jews belong to the same Faith as us today.
Wow! I never knew about the wedding cup! That was an awesome explanation of what it represents! It absolutely makes the sacrament even more meaningful! I always focus on the part where it says “to always remember him and have is spirit be with them” I know Jesus Christ knows me personally and that is wonderful that he knows each of us personally. So much so that the guy who painted the garden room in the Manti temple was inspired to paint that cardinal in the 1940’s so that YOU could see it in 2024! God knew that it would help YOU!! It is an absolute blessing to partake of the sacrament each week. I begin preparing on Saturday evening by reading Alma 5 and review what I need to do better in the coming week. As far as now being a priesthood holder - I am so very happy for you! You have been given power and authority that can be traced right back to the Lord. As a sister in the gospel for my entire life, I have always had the priesthood in my home - either my dad, or my husband and sons.There is safety and security in seeing the way the Lord has his Church organized. It is such a delight watching you grow with understanding.
Something else to consider when looking at the symbolism of the sacrament. Notice we do not give wafers or crackers. We literally tear the bread at the sacrament table, symbolic of the flesh of Christ being torn for us. We remember the symbolism.
It doesn't matter whether we use crackers or bread. We use bread out of tradition.
He is also the Living Water, that satisfies all spiritual thirst.
@@DesertPrimrose Respectfully, it does matter to many of us. The church uses bread because Jesus is the bread of life and His life was torn for us. That is a symbolism with profound meaning. Yes, whatever we have santified could be used. Bread was chosen for a reason. It is more a symbol than a tradition in my opinion.

I love your videos and your journey. I felt the Spirit, especially when the kids were singing. I know it's been said a million times, but one of my favorite benefits of the Sacrament is that we literally renew our baptismal covenants each week! And we are cleansed and purified each week by the Holy Ghost by taking the Sacrament. To really put that in perspective is amazing and it's why it's vital to attend sacrament each week. All thanks and praise to our Savior for giving us that opportunity every week.

Hello David, Thank you for all of your interesting and helpful podcasts. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints. I have loved learning about other churches and appreciate your kindness and respect for those religions. Coming unto Christ is the focus of your podcast and I love that. My husband and I are serving in the Nauvoo Pageant Leadership and would love to invite you to come to Nauvoo during the Pageant this year.. The pageant is held from July 9th through August 3rd. The pageants are held on Tuesday through Saturday. There is a British Pageant on Wednesday and Friday and the Nauvoo Pageant is held Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. There's also a dress rehearsal for the British pageant on Monday night that people are welcome to attend. The spirit of these pageants is incredible. They tell the story of the building up of Nauvoo and also the missionaries who went to England to preach and their travels to come to Nauvoo and help with the building of the Nauvoo temple. Los Angeles Temple is where I had the gift of the endowment. It is a very large temple. It was the only one around when I was growing up. When I was a teenager, the San Diego Temple came online. I was sealed in the Nauvoo Temple and that was extraordinary. I’ve visited so many more as I’ve traveled. I’m so happy watching as your making choices in your spiritual growth. Thank you for your videos because they really help support me and some of the hard times. It’s very uplifting.

I need to finish watching that episode! I had been researching Jewish traditions regarding the Sacrament, then same day as I was recording this is when the Stick of Joseph episode dropped with the ancient Hebrew wedding rituals. I watched maybe 10 minutes and will watch more later - since it sounded fascinating.
One thing I cut, but was equally interesting regarding ancient Jewish customs was a mikveh. It was like a ritual immersion that a bride and groom would do before the wedding to achieve spiritual cleanness - exactly like baptism. I'm no Jewish scholar and need to learn/understand more, but the customs and rituals of Jewish marriage that then became key rituals in Christianity (like baptism and the sacrament) feels like quite the rabbit hole.
I joined the Church two years ago tomorrow and received my endowment last August. It is all worth it brother.
I love taking the Lord's sacrament and focusing on His life and choices. I hope to be able to live like Him, as much as it is possible in this fallen world! I'm grateful for the weekly renewal of my faith and testimony of the Lord. Thank you for moving forward and not letting the criticism of the few slow you down. Your testimony strengthens mine.
I never thought of the Sacrament in that manner- being like a marriage proposal. Thank you for helping the Lord expand my knowledge of the symbolisms.
I gave a talk about the women in the life of Christ for Mother's Day last year and the first woman I mentioned was Mary and how Jesus' last act before declaring "it is finished" was to make sure his mother was taken care of. I emphasized how important it was that he did it on the cross where he would have had difficulty breathing let alone talking so it was important to him. He could have made it easy on himself and simply waited till Easter to tell John to take care of his mom but didn't.

I've been a member my whole life and I've never heard of the symbolism described in that way. Taking the sacrament every week for your whole life can make it feel mundane and repetitive, but that really helps my perspective. Thank you so much for your videos.

Nice analogies of the Sacrament to the Savior and the marriage covenant. Congratulations on your ordination to the Priesthood. After my conversion years ago, it took awhile learning the details of my new faith. I had been a catholic before. Some things transferred well in terminology, but were different in a new sense.
That was awesome! I haven't heard from you since your 1st round (year), and I am not very surprised, but so happy for you that you have been baptized! It seemed to me that you were looking at me during your portrayal of thoughts, and I was nodding my head as if I was your only congregation. There is more than you realize in our Church, and it is fun for me to share with you your travels and thoughts and joy. You have that unique way of explaining, even though you are still somewhat unfamiliar what to expect, you are certainly thinking and doing what I should have been all of my life. The children are learning to be confident while singing in front of the ward or branch they are in, and learning music and songs while doing so. When they are of age they will be ready to leave their home to serve a 2-year or 18-month mission -- even though it is difficult on them and also their parents and siblings. But they learn SO MUCH -- how to serve, how to communicate with people as an adult, they often gain their own testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ during this time. You are an answer to prayer, and I am happy that this is your 3rd go-around of 52 weeks/52 churches. Keep it up!!! :)

Thank you David! I loved your description of increased faith as you leave the "Safety" of the familiar boat and walk with trust toward Christ..... Our young men build strong foundations of faith in Christ as they serve in the Priesthood, the Sacrament can be a powerful tool in our lives to keep our commitment to Christ fresh and new and to develop a transcending sense of gratitude for His love and sacrifice in our behalf....

I was married in the LA Temple, that Temple calls to me more than any other!
@@stardustgirl2904 The LA temple was the 1st temple I went to when heading out on my mission. I served in Delaware/Maryland. My companion and I tied for the 1st baptisms from the DC temple. DC temple has a special place in my heart because that was when I received my first Testimony. And wow it was a life changer. The LA temple is special as it prepared me for my mission.
As a newly confirmed LDS member and a newly ordained Aaronic Priesthood recipient, he will soon enter the temple and can there perform Aaronic Priesthood ordinances primarily baptism. I am 77 yrs of age. My daughter in Utah takes me to various temples to do similar ordinances plus confirm as well. (my granddaughter is 12 so she brings along 2 or 3 friends)
I once gave a talk on symbolism in the sacrament when I was a teenager. I have learned so much more since then. Everything I learn draws me closer to my Savior. I’m so grateful He teaches me line upon line, precept upon precept , here a little and there a little.
The Sacrament is such a blessing to those who live their lives by faith, As you have said many times, "it's all about Christ". Having covenants and symbolism to help us learn how to have a closer and more loving relationship with our Heavenly Father is so often overlooked. We can't fully understand the power of Christ, but we act in faith and receive choice experiences accordingly. Quick verse for you today David on your continued knowledge journey - Alma 12:9

I love your thoughts on the sacrament! Amazing! I am going to make a room for you. Wonderful symbolism, I have seen the alter and death shroud covering the body of Christ much more recently. It has been amazing to see the veil and the body and blood of Christ. Which feels very temple. The wedding feast is now another layer that is more powerful, too. Thank you for adding this for me.

Great David. I be was baptized on April 2, 1966 (8 years old), and had the Aaronic Priesthood conferred on me on my birthday in March of 1970. Since then it has been a gradual upward climb, here a little and there a little. Walking by faith, by sight, and by following commandments, most of the time. I’m still climbing all these years later, still learning, and still growing. Keep it up.

David, I loved your story. You are growing so much as you take each step. I really contemplate what the Sacrament is as the sacrament is being passed each week. I play the organ for the service so I read the words of our Sacrament hymn that had just been sung during the quiet time for myself. I love to feel the reverence and the Spirit. Brother Boice, thank you for your insights. I especially like the research and thoughts without prejudice into other denominations' beliefs and practices. The Jewish history and traditions especially have given me a broader understanding of modern v. ancient practices and how God's "way", even in scripture, has been polluted/altered by man. I usually think of the sacrament as a replacement for the passover where Christ is the unblemished lamb. But I really love the imagery of the engagement ritual with the cup of wine. Understanding these layers of symbolism add such beautiful meaning to the sacrament. Thank you for your video!

Great video! Symbolism absolutely runs deep, what stands out to me with the latter-day Saints sacrament is the aspect of remember, that they will always remember. And it is it's difficult at times to be 100% in rememberance of our savior 100% in rememberance of Christ. But for that reason very grateful for your video today because it's helped me to keep in rememberance the sacrament and of the commitments I have made and have been given the opportunity to renew those commitments or covenants. Your video has helped me draw my mind back too Him. Thank you
A point that I try and make each Sunday well partaking of the sacrament is to thank the priesthood holder who passes the sacrament to me, because 1. I'm grateful for their service and their exercising of the priesthood and 2. my hope is to help them realize that whatever priesthood they may hold it exists to serve others there is no self gratification or seeking self-interest in the priesthood it is for the service of others and by thinking them hopefully allows them to gain an appreciation to use the priesthood for its intended purpose.

When i converted and got my priesthood it's really fun and such a blessing to be able to pass or bless sacrament on sundays even though it's nerveracking the first few times, I'm actually being ordained to the melchizedek priesthood after church this Sunday and i'm pretty excited for it.

David, I cherish the sacrament. When I take the sacrament I focus in on what it means to take his name upon me and my soul. I also reflect upon his life and different miracles ✨️ he gave to his fellow brothers and sisters, by healing the sick and helping those in need.
I als think of how scary it would be to allow people to hurt you as he was tortured and put on the cross!

When I take the sacrament, I think of the body of Christ as his outstretched arms that He understands all the hurt, heartaches and sorrows others have caused me and I tried to forgive. I picture him coming to comfort me. When I take the water…in the early days of the church they did use wine. But it said that he died of a broken heart. When they thrust through his side, the chambers of the heart burst put out water and blood. It is said that he literally died of a broken heart. I asked myself what I may have done this week to have broken his heart and continue to repent. ❤️🕊️🙏 I’ve enjoyed your journey. Thank you for being so sensitive and kind.
