Looks like the log arch works great. I think I would put a strap between the hitch area to the framework above where it lifts the log. Id be afraid to bend that long tube on top. Thanks for the show. Joe
Joe, There is a steel " Bridge Support" strap on the top of the long tube to transfer torque and load to the hitch and the body. So far, so good ! It's moved quite a lot of wood with no problems or mechanical failure.
Them, right thar, is some nice hobby logs :) . Looks like I will need to build me a logging arch, as I have me some tree bustin' to do. Keep up the tree-mendous work, my fellow woodenwatter :) .
That log was about 28 inches dia. I'm taking them over to a wood carver who will carve some Bears for us. Nice Logs ! Yes, that log arch works mighty well. We have used it on a lot of low impact back yard jobs.
@@nhhbbyloggr5022 That's a pretty big log, for sure. I might try something like watt the carver is planning to do, as my CNC mill can handle large rotary milling tasks - so perhaps I could make a Totem Pole. Hmmmm, the possibilities are endless :) . Now, I wonder if my shiny new 22 ton dog splitter can handle logs like this......
@@CNCmachiningisfun The carver wants them cut to 42 inches long, once I get them to his yard tomorrow. I sure would like to see your CNC machine in action !
@@nhhbbyloggr5022 It will be interesting to see watt he creates with these hobby logs :) . Recently, I bought a 4th axis - to go with my new CNC mill. This allows it to work like a lathe, where the workpiece rotates, and the mill carves its way into the job, from all angles. Watt's cool is that I have recently learned how to do photogrammetry, which will allow me to capture reality, and duplicate it as 3D carvings :) .

That skid is just the ticket and makes moving those large logs a snap.
