Some trouble shooting tips for those of you who just bought a new SX Pro and want to backup the NAND before setting it up: 1.) You don't actually need hekate anymore. The latest boot.bin file does allow you to load a Payload, but it has a built in tool for backing up and restoring NAND. 2.) If you don't charge the dongle first for a few minutes it will just show a black screen. The SX Pro has a capacitor rather than a battery, so it charges quickly, but also discharges quickly. 3.) Before going into airplane mode, make sure that you use your microSD card with the Switch. Even if you are on the latest firmware it will tell you that you need to update in order to use the microSD card. If you don't do this, then it won't work. If the format is already exFAT (and a new microSDXC should be) then it won't get formatted, it will just get a new Nintendo folder. 4.) If you don't have a boot.bin file on the root directory of your microSD card you will get a red screen that says "boot.dat?" 5.) If you install the WRONG boot.dat file you will get a black screen. This is actually easy to do, since that file name is on more than one zip file on the Team Executor website. What you need is the boot.dat file from the SXOS_v2.0.1 download. Assuming that you place the boot.dat file from that zip file to the microSD card, and assuming the card is readable to the Switch normally, and assuming the dongle is charged, you will be able to boot up no problem to make a NAND dump. Be aware that the NAND dump can take over an hour, so make sure your Switch is charged up before starting.
@@satzchen its a partial nand because if your SD card isint big enough to fit the nand in 1 file, it will split into several files until complete. Also it will do this if your card is fat32 because it cannot hold files over 4gb
Hi first of all, I really appreciate the videos you do and how informative they are - big thanks! Is it possible and safe to do a NAND-backup with installed games on the internal storage of the Switch or do I need to format it first? Big thanks for your time and effort!
When you fully power down the switch and it launches back into official firmware and go online will you be safe (or as safe as you can be) from bans? Or do I need to use my nand backup and then go online?
If I have a firmware that doesn't support exFAT yet (4.0.1), can I still use an exFAT Micro SDXC to backup my system nand or would I have to be on a higher firmware/use fat32?
@@MrPoperstoper180 Yeah, it's very easy...place all the backed up file in a fold called Restore and then run the same process but choose the restore option. Will take around 1-2 hours depending what you backed up.
Hi @TechJames: may i know when is the proper time to back up NAND? before i activate my SXOS or before...somebody said i shoild have done it before the hack, but it seems in your video i need the hack (SXOS) to do that.... can you explain it to us what should be the right order then..thanks
You need a hack to launch the payload otherwise how are you going to launch Hekate to do the backup anyway. So it should be the first thing you do when you start to load cfw incase you brick your device later.
A quick question with regard to nand backup and bans, im currently running 6.1.0 with the latest version of Atmosphere, if i make a nand backup now, can i use it to unban myself (when I eventually get banned)?
You can't "unban" yourself of now, just don't go online while using your CFW of choice. if you want to go online, restore your NAND backup and you are good to go.
@@nairbotisol9339 *That is not entirely true. I installed Smash Ultimate leaked NSP without backing up at all, and I uninstalled it and went back Online. No Ban. 3 Weeks have past, still no ban.*
I love your tutorials they're always really simple and helpful , thank you!

my sd card already exfat , but every time i dump nand with sx pro, the result is partially nand, how can i fix this, thank you

@@matthewgeorge6620 well i solved it with hekate, with sx os i always got partial nand despite my sd card 128gb and already exfat.
A restore guide would be worth gold for a potential crisis scenario in the future
Thanks Tech James, keep up the good work.
AWESOME Tutorial dude! Just what i needed ;-)
Very nice tutorial. Can you also make a tutorial on how to restore NAND? Thanks man!

Wondering the same thing lol
Will this only work with SX OS? Or will it also work with atmosphere?
I have two sd cards should I have to make Nand on the both sd cards or Nand on one sd card is fine ???
Once you have this can you use it to downgrade?
Can you help me? I have the r4 sdhc dual core 'new' card
I downloaded the files and put it inside and when I open it
A white screen just comes up...

Soo glad I can just store this on my PC cuz dude! that sucked up my whole 64gb sd card!
The NAND is 32GB not 64

TicWhack exactly! We need to know how to restore if needed now

I thought you launched the payload using the memory on the dongle and not by copying onto the SD card?
mine doesnt list nand dump in tools theres only one thing and it says auto boot or something like that
Hey Tech James, can you make a tutorial on how to install Luma cfw on 3DS 11.7?
Dr. MeltedHooman use b9s(boot9strap) or ntrboot with a flashcard that supports it
can i copy the stuff thats already on the sd card to my pc to make room for the Nand backup?
If I lost or delete the system nand how can I get one everything boots up but system nand it just stays on logo

How do I restore the NAND back up please
Can i delete the backup files from my sd card afterwards?

Walter Brian Picciuti Losito would the nand i make now considered a clean one? All i have is atmosphere and the homebrew app that came along with it.
If you already used a CFW without backing up your OFW first, 99% when you will restore it and go online...after some time you will be banned.

Can I do this after I accidentally updated to 8.0?
i have got a switch , first time inserting sd card , its asking me to update. if i do it will update to 6.2 . any idea ?
Every time i try to copy the back up files into the pc from the sd card using a card reader of course. It gives me an error
