    Greeting's from Ireland, Nice video and beautiful garden, Me and roses don't get along the only rose we have is a very old peony rose no thorn's great. My mother love's the thorny one's and has lot's of them, I look after the weeding in her flower bed's and boy do I hate roses. There have been time's where I thought I would have to go to A&E after weeding around them.

      Thank you! During the summer it’s easier because it rains so much and during the dry season I deep water so I don’t have to do it every day. It’s the smaller pots that need more of my attention. Hopefully one day I’ll install drip 💧 and get that hour back that I spend watering. ☺️

    I am a Fl Cottage Gardener too! Zone 9b. Full sun facing W. It gets super hot.
    It was wonderful touring your garden. You have plants in would like to try like delphinium. I grow most everything from seed.
    I grow roses & the mystic salvia too. I still have larkspur & snapdragons blooming. I have a plant i love it is actually called dill. It is white & looks like a very soft white queen Ann’s lace. Very beautiful. You might like. Ammi White Dill from Johnny’s seeds.
    It does fade out when it gets super hot. It is growing strong now. Gets tall & sways with the wind. I do stake it.

    • @totallydomestic433

      @@FloridaCottageGarden
      No, they do not do well in the heat of summer. They last about like snapdragons or larkspur. They prefer cool weather but tolerate spring into summer till it gets hot hot. I have to stake mine. They get big so i have them in the back. I will have to check when i started these seeds but it was early, same as when i started larkspur & snapdragons.

    Hi. I just came across your chanel. I love your garden with so many plants that I did not think they would do well in Florida. I am amazed at the variety of roses you have and how beautiful they all are. I am in Miami and I'm scared of growing roses as I have heard it is hard to keep them pest free. Where in Florida are you located?

    • @FloridaCottageGarden
      @FloridaCottageGarden  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hi! You can definitely grow roses in Miami. There is a book on Amazon named 100 Roses for the South Florida Garden by Victor Lazarri that speaks about pest issues, maintenance, fertilizing and the best roses to grow there. I have the book and it is a wealth of information. I’m located in zone 10a, Orlando and my biggest issue is black spot and thrips. During fall, winter and spring it is relatively “easy” to grow roses. In summer is when you’ll notice a lot of pest pressure and fungal issues. I would recommend to start out with healthier varieties such as Mrs.BR Can’t, Louis Philippe, Belinda’s Dream, the drift series, knockout roses and for climbers Don Juan seems to be very popular but my favorite is James Galway. Hope this helps!

    Your garden is lovely. The roses are amazing. What fertilizer do you use on them and how often do you fertilize? Just beginning to plant roses in ground and in pot in my garden in West Palm Beach and would love some tips. Thank you.

      Hi! Glad to hear your planting roses, they’re such a delight to grow. After pruning in January I feed them alfalfa, once I see new growth I feed them Rosetone from Espoma and this year I’m trying out Max Sea, they receive it about every 2-3 weeks. I also just finished adding some Epsom Salt. I’ll most likely give them more Alfalfa towards the end of summer to replace some of the nutrients lost from all our summer storms. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

    The roses in the white pots sitting on white gravel are probably suffering from too much heat. The ceramic pots get hot, the gravel gets hot - try putting the roses in the ground. Maybe plant lavender in those pots. They like it dry and can handle the heat better than a rose.

    • @FloridaCottageGarden
      @FloridaCottageGarden  5 месяцев назад

      Hi! We just put the gravel in about 2 weeks ago and the pots are plastic. I’ll definitely keep an eye on them and see if I notice any changes from last year that may be due to the heat radiating from the gravel. Appreciate your helpful tips!

      Thank you! No, not really. I had it once a couple years ago. The main pests I deal with are thrips, leaf footed bugs and these black beetles that love to chew the petals. I can’t remember the name, but I know they’re not Japanese beetles.
