Some really good points here. Especially talking about how RUclipsrs and others sort of create this pressure to own original games, and/or collecting things in general. It's almost like if you don't own things, you're treated/feel worse than people that do.
Crazy how I was able to get yellow for around $50/$60 even a few years ago when Covid was still a big thing, now few years later ( a few days ago actually) I got Pokemon silver for about $50ish and today had to dig deep and find a sapphire copy for $69. Wasn’t willing to pay $70-$100+ for Gen 3. I’m hoping it’s authentic like the guy said. I’ll even take one with a dry battery since I know how to solder new batteries for cartridge games.
It's a shame that the prices have skyrocketed, as someone that's been a fan for like 12/15years, I can barely even enjoy it just for the games, not for the money or anything like that but pokemon was/is a big escape from reality for me especially bc I didn't really have a good childhood growing up and I would always play the games to escape how I grew up and how both my biological father and stepdad treated me
It's unfortunate that a series that was made for fun and for *_hobbies_* has unfortunately become proportionality increased when it comes to value. Retro games, cards, plushies, etc, you name it. Pokemon is just unfortunately one of those series, with things like Fire Emblem and the Xeno series being not far behind. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Yello!
So glad I don't feel tempted on buying into the absurdity of these demands. These people couldn't possibly had bought the games themselves for a good-chillion dollars. Whatever you guys do, do NOT sell your pokemon games. I made that mistake once with White 2.
Yeah it really is that simple. Supply & demand. Whenever something is high in demand that out of production, it's going to be expensive to buy, not just pokemon products. There is something special & authentic about having the hard copy of these gsmes. Playing the classic pokemon games on ROMs & emulators don't feel the same as playing the actual physical games.
I started noticing this years ago, that OG pokemon items were getting way more expensive. I bought yugioh cards in 2016 for fun & now they're worth way more, tbh I was going to do the same thing with pokemon content, whether that be buying OG cards or buying the games as an investment, treating it like stocks as you said. I don't feel the best exploiting this but it's honestly a good investment strategy. Great video!
It's only as expensive as you choose to make it. I have several repro carts of the gen 3 games, and I'm even working on getting some of my pokemon emerald rom hacks actually turned into carts. I prefer emulation, but a GBA SP just *does* it for me sometimes, but I'm not gonna be selling my organs to use it.
When i was 14 in late 2012 i remember my mom brought Pokemon Black and White 2 for me for $29. Now in 2024 it's over $100... Thankfully i saved all my childhood games.
Reminder, you should really check for yourself if you live near a local store that sell old pokemon games, because I happen to live less than 30 minutes away from one, and I love gen 3 and Im planning to take a trip there, try typing names like the video game trading post in google maps etc, Your Welcome! It could really save you a lot of money!
the local game stores near me sell pokemon games for pretty high, like selling FRLG for $150 high. if you want cheap games you have to either get lucky and find one for sale at a thrift store or market place, or go for a different region. I’ve picked up 4 copies of japanese FRLG for the current going rate of a single copy of the english version for shiny hunting.
You need the cartridge to fully experience the game because of trading 😂 my tip buy 1 expensive reseller price for each gen use that as your play through then buy the japanese versions. But if you don't want owning physical there will always be roms downloadable BUT owning 1 physical copy just hits different.
I got really lucky Last year Found someone locally selling They're kids ds pokemon collection for 200$ ish got Heart gold cib + wokewalker Soul sliver loose ( I got the box now) Platinum Missing Manual diamond Missing manual Pearl cib Black cib White cib Black 2 missing Manual White 2 missing manual Pokemon Explorers of sky cib craziest deal 😂 I've been slowly getting the manuals I just need to get the other big box for soul sliver
As someone who recently starrted to collect pokemon games, if you want to just re-experience your childhood, just get a DS Lite and a flashcard, it's cheap, authentic and really enjoyable. You can also install rom hacks made by fans too, my favourite right now is Pokemon Polished Crystal. I paid 50 GBP for my first Pokemon Platine (Platinum) (Fully boxed with manuals), which is right now considered to be a steal. Just please save yourself the headache.
I think that if yr a full odds shiny hunter you have more then enough reason to go for an autentic game, since soft resets dont work on most of the rom game cards and for some reason finding a shiny on those doesnt make it feel autentic, but thats just me i guess. The only game I overpayed for was pokemon black 2 for 60 euros I bought it from a friend which was selling his pokemon collection and it was before the pandemic. I never got to play that game and I was just so excited to go back to unova.
Emulation is def the answer here, install homebrew on a wii w/ nintendon't and boom, grab yourself the ISO's of colloseum and XD Gale of Darkness and you got that covered... these all work 100% with the gba cable... you lose nothing! and a gba flashcart for the GBA games! don't have experience with these but I think the GBA to GC communication should be fine, make sure to get one with a RTC so you can experience the games as meant to be played. Last but not least, R4 flashcart for DS! Arghh matey! The ONLY thing you will miss out on is the pokéwalker, which isn't the biggest deal. I got "lucky" and had an urge to complete my Pokémon collection before the pandemic hit... Picked up a Firered for like 20 bucks and Emerald for 20 aswell lol... also XD Gale of Darkness for 70 bucks lmao. Those days are gone and they WILL NOT get any cheaper sadly. I'm also very into "collecting" vinyl as you would say, DJ/music hobby and the prices of discs never go down. The upside however if there's enough demand and the artist/label is cool they do reissues/represses which then allows you to get expensive (often 300-500 dollar records) for retail! ... However Nintendo & Pokémon will never re-release these games in their original format... so I wouldn't get bootleg carts because those are very shady and hit or miss and I'd go the full pirate mode. Nintendo neither the original creators aren't getting a single dime from the resell market so imo it's objective fact you're not really stealing anything.
Saying emulation in a video is a risky thing with anything assoseated with Nintendo consoles involved (I did get leaf green and fire red at a reasionable price recently it was a very scary and werid experince) also thanks to Cex in England and ireland its easyer to get the classic games but its at a lower but stable price but its still rediculas heart gold goes for 200 euros

Yeah, at this point, it feels like buying/owning XD Gale of Darkness is now considered a bragging right, which is just icky.

I argue its the streaming of the games and people shiny hunting that had made these older games more desirable
Not the the extent it is now. Of course, it might be part of it:
So glad I don't feel tempted on buying into the absurdity of these demands. These people couldn't possibly had bought the games themselves for a good-chillion dollars.

Im old enough to have been called a pokenerd for enjoying the franchise in its original heyday
Luckily I filled out my collection by buying used back in 2016 including Heartgold, Platinum, and both Black versions. $30-$60 for each games.
I started noticing this years ago, that OG pokemon items were getting way more expensive. Glad I got every game at retail prices growing up. Buying them at the current market price would cost a fortune!
I paid $120 for emerald today. Stoked I got it for that price tbh. My son will get to play all the games we enjoyed :)
It's only as expensive as you choose to make it. I have several repro carts of the gen 3 games, and I'm even working on getting some of my pokemon emerald rom hacks actually turned into carts.

i literally have japanese platinum because i could not afford an english copy 😭
Riperoni
can you read it? hope you have a translator!
When i was 14 in late 2012 i remember my mom brought Pokemon Black and White 2 for me for $29. Now in 2024 it's over $100... Thankfully i saved all my childhood games.
Consider yourself extremely lucky

It will be expensive but at least u can look at it first, I prefer getting them at a store

the fake cartridges are not okay to exist
Reproduction carts are 100% okay to exist.
I got really lucky Last year Found someone locally selling They're kids ds pokemon collection for 200$ ish got
Heart gold cib + wokewalker
Soul sliver loose ( I got the box now)
Platinum Missing Manual
diamond Missing manual
Pearl cib
Black cib
White cib
Black 2 missing Manual
White 2 missing manual
Pokemon Explorers of sky cib
craziest deal 😂
I've been slowly getting the manuals I just need to get the other big box for soul sliver
lol... just bought Emerald, LeafGreen, and FireRed in CIB.... XD Wallet is dead, buried, and remains just dust... lol hopefully wife wont divorce me
I feel you. The prices aren’t going to get any easier in the foreseeable future!

Box only for nearly $200?!
I bought fire red for 120 with no box🤡 worth it but prices are crazy af
I use this video as a reminder to let go the urge to buy the original games. Great video btw.

I blame Logan Paul for all of this
and collectors
If you buy and keep the games instead of selling them after 6 months at retail, it's not that expensive 😂
Nice video!
look around and you may find good stuff. But,obviously, don't go for the first offer shoved in your face, because it's most likely a rip-off.
This needs to spread more and be protected from Nintendo
people are ruining it with bootlegs *angry face*
No u :)
pokemon in general have skyrockted cards and others. i will keep buying only originals an CIB i don like emulators sorry i want them.
collectors are ruining pokemon

Emulation isn't illegal though. Nintendo wishes it were, but they hate it because it shows how underpowered their consoles really are.
why would anyone want a bootleg 💩
People just wanna be horrible and scammy.
bragging is annoying. Why do people constantly do it
😭my wallet 😭
