      +Believe inTruth As someone who works in supermarket retail, let me clear up your ignorance. Checkout operators are NOT the only people that work in supermarkets. Neither are they "lower class or under-educated". The introduction of such improvements has meant faster service which means happier customers therefore happier working conditions. It has also meant that investments have been made to have more staff working back of house. You know like putting stock on shelves.

    • @Eszra
      @Eszra 7 лет назад +3

      You didn't hear about the shelf stocking Robots did you? In this video they talk about the screen that tells you where your product came from right? Well in another video with the same device it also has a robot made by the same people to stock shelves. The whole thing looks so sterile it's horrible.

    The smartest thing would be if you have a full shoppingcart and if the shop had a big scanner that just would had to go over the full cart and then scan everything a once, then you don't have to put all your items on to the "line" (I'm from Denmark and don't know the name!) and then put them in bags but can put it all directly in your bags.

    • @ivofbeyonce

    There will be no shops and no checkouts. There will be computer controlled central warehouses, distribution centres and self driving delivery vans. Homes of the future will be automated to receive and pack your groceries.

    Technology is swiftly replacing man power. However, when there are no more jobs in the most important service sector in the world, retail, how will one be able to afford groceries? Local economy stability? This all leads to destruction for the human race. Great job 1%! You make your Fathers of past times very proud.

    • @swind2553
      @swind2553 Год назад

      Honestly, what is up with people constantly accusing technology of replacing people? Do you WANT to work as a cashier or chef in a fast food restaurant for 8-16 hours daily dealing with customers screaming at your face? Who wants to put up with that negativity? Let alone janitorial or nursing work - NOBODY and I mean NOBODY wants to clean and wipe filth off toilets and people's bums. These are labor intensive jobs that nobody wants to do that technology is replacing. Companies are simply taking test-and-trial steps with the easier tasks first (such as item checkout) as bathroom cleaning is a more complex task which will need to be done at a later step. Yes maybe it's a bad idea that robots are taking away every last job existent. But realize that that's going to be at a MUCH later time as transitioning an entire business into AI will cost hundreds of thousands. And companies do not plan to make that expense at the present. Honestly everyone commenting here literally have nothing to complain about as you all will be LONG GONE, by old age of course, by the time AI even "takes over". Also, it's not like humans do the best at their work anyways. Employees will still give you an attitude if you request them to do anything, especially the ones that just hate their jobs.

    The phone scanning one is just asking for people to rob them. The other ones look cool though, but as stated, it does put people out of employment (but honestly it replaces jobs that most people don't want, but often need)

    These are all horrible wastes of money. I don’t understand why companies would put millions of dollars into these conveyor POS systems that bring in no extra profit and don’t make checkouts any easier. And the Swedish company with the conveyor belt that has a scale, that’s nothing new. Go to any grocery story or warehouse club they all have scales built in and most self checkout systems send items back for incorrect dimensions. The only innovation I see it with systems like the last one, scan and go. Stores where you can either pick up a scanner when you arrive and scan as you shop, or scan off your phone. This way no lines.

    This is all great until it crashes or malfunctions. I had a chevy blazer years ago that had a fully electronic dashboard. I thought it was cool as anything. Until one day I was driving on the freeway and the dashboard went blank! I had NO idea how much gas I had, how fast I was going, nothing! It was the most creepy feeling. Cost a FORTUNE to have fixed, too! I'm old-fashioned and see nothing wrong with the way we're doing our grocery shopping today. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! We're just a society that's getting more and more lazy along with more and more demanding.
