2017 RF NEXT Big Brother/Big Sister RUSH | Remnant Fellowship Youth

Remnant Fellowship founder and leader Gwen Shamblin had the wonderfully fun idea to celebrate the entrance to the Remnant youth group with youth “rush.” Every 13 year old who gets confirmed in the Church, whether a local member in Brentwood, Tennessee, or in one of our 130 satellite locations, inherits a BIG brother or BIG sister, officially becoming a member of the Remnant Fellowship Church youth group. The “BIGs” are Remnant teenagers who have been through confirmation, are strong in their relationship with God and now get to help the new youth through any testing and trials. The Youth Rush serves as an exciting welcome into the youth group. All who are confirmed are secretly assigned two BIGs and a “Grand BIG.” A Grand BIG is typically a youth leader who is there to help the BIGs and LITTLEs with any questions they have, as well as to provide wisdom from a more experienced standpoint.
The 13-year-olds do not know about any of this and it’s all planned and accomplished in secret, months ahead of time! The kids get to find out who their BIGs are on the day of Pentecost, which is the Festival when the youth go through confirmation and declare that they are taking personal responsibility for their relationship with God. It is an exciting time spiritually and a sweet bonding time as a youth group! A lot of planning goes into this process of “rushing” the youth, with a selfless team prayerfully finding the best matches for the BIGs and LITTLEs. Matching decisions are based on similar gifts, interests and life experiences.
After this is all finalized, a WhatsApp message is sent to all BIGs to expect an e-mail that includes the reveal of their LITTLEs as well as a survey that their parents have filled out which contains little facts about them. The BIGs study and memorize everything about their LITTLEs and communicate with the Grand BIG...establishing a game plan to surprise the LITTLEs with decorated bedrooms filled with balloons, candy, an RF Youth T-shirt and “welcome” posters. The Remnant out-of-town youth are equally a part of the exciting time, as secret boxes filled with streamers, balloons, candy and an RF Youth T-shirt are mailed to their parents for room decorating. What makes this all so fun and heightens the excitement is that everything is kept a SECRET. The LITTLEs have no idea about any of it until the day of Pentecost!
In this short video you will see a glimpse of all the older BIGs having a ball decorating the rooms and the joy of the LITTLEs being surprised. However, what you are really getting to see is the genuine love among Remnant Fellowship Church! All of the effort that goes into each youth member...the posters, balloons, confetti, streamers and the special RF Youth T-shirt waiting in their rooms…is a reflection of a sincere joy that everyone knows they are deeply loved by God and by each other. No one is left out, the unity among the youth is real and the love they have for God is inspiring!
