Anyone having trouble with 5:29 section i.e not seeing a box. Make sure to turn off isoline editing in the options tab next to display. Edit: We've all been there with uni deadlines. I know that dreaded feeling. Relax you will get through this.
The last part reminded me so much of that classic drawing joke, where you draw a circle and then the rest of the freaking pigeon, jk:-) Thank you so much for a great tutorial! This channel overall is a godsend, along with eyedesyn and everything else you do for this community!
Ok, I'm repeating this tutorial at some point this week. I never saw the bounding straight boxes outside the polygons and these have been the three most frustrating hours of my 2023 so far... clearly reflected in my pigeon hehe The c4d interface looks different as well, couldn't find any buttons. Very fun :) Thank you for putting this out though!
EJ as usual pushing the boundaries... of geometry XD. No joke, bravo!, if there's someone who's made me lose my old fears, aversion and resentment of 3D, is this guy right here.
Man thats awesome, exactly what I want to hear! 3d isn't hard...modeling basics aint either. Happy to help your on your path to beating back those insecurities on 3D!
@@eyedesyn Seriously, as someone who is trying to learn this and is a teacher herself, I've been so frustrated by tutorials. You are able to explain this stuff in a way that makes sense. I love that you approach teaching the program from a project perspective, not an explanation or showcase of features / functions.
Learned so much from EJ in the past month! Have been following all his tutorials and finally am starting to get a grasp of cinema 4D! First time using an iron tool!
Also, for the ones wondering at 5:29 when extruding the selection why the nearest polygons also moves, check out preserve groups and make sure to apply it in the extrude tool option
justr coming back to C4d after years thanks for the tutorial, before we had to bring in sketches onto planes and scale them, good thing I watched this :)
He skips so many steps.... his other tutorials are great as @eyedesyn, but this one is kinda asking for you to download the files and register for those classes of School of Motion..
@@GoFayeGo Funny you mention that, fabulous teacher and fabulous tutorial, but your correct, there are a few things that he is doing, and not mentioning, that it takes someone with at least, some C4D experience to notice. For example, at 5:22, in the Perspective view, he spins the Cube without saying that he is spinning it, or why. In reality, if he had not spun the Cube one face clockwise, he would not have been able to Extrude the Polygon, below in the Right side perspective window, to right as he did, because the Polygon selected would have been facing us, in the Right side perspective window, not the right hand side as it ended up after the spin. No biggie, it's just that, those who are trying to learn, tend to watch every move you make. So as a teacher, it's absolutely key to dictate every step you make.
I'm coming from blender and I want to know what the hell the people from C4D were thinking when they made the shortcuts? E for move, T for scale? Why not use M and S?
I said it on IG but it should be noted; EJs new catch phrase should be "From cube to cute!" SO pumped for whenever you drop your next SoM course --- ADVANCED 3DEEEEEE PLS !!
I love this, it's my third tutorial video that I watch about cinema 4d after watching some interface basics tutorials, and I am able to do a simple model already :D THANK YOU!
I’m following his instructions but at 11:23 why am I not getting a square to edit. I’m still just getting a curved shape. Also why is his legs spread apart evenly while mine split from edge
The entire process is done in Redshift which does not come cheap unless you use other methods to get it. I think it was poorly executed by not mentioning it in the tutorial.
I think a lot of things have changed in R25, not only the interface. W is not inner extrude. It is Inset, or kinda works different for me. There is a hole in the body if I press W
Funny to hear your familiar voice again; I took your entire Cineversity course "Getting started with Cinema4d" That taught me most of what I know about Cinema.
Hey EJ! Question for you.... You still have a wireframe of the non-subdivided surface visible and when you're selecting polygons (like to make the pigeon's leg) your selection is on that non-subdivided wireframe.... I don't have that wireframe and my selections highlight the subdivided (smoothed) polygons. What am I missing? (R21)
almost 2 hours and every time there is a new problem. For my first Cinema4D tutorial I think is ok but understanding why certain things are not working is the main problem. Now my pigeon looks like it has a disease. At least I learned some stuff. ^^

Big Thank
If I can get someone to teach me like this I can learn in a week and do more in a month. Great teacher.
Even though, I now understand the concepts, I still revisit this video from time to time. By now, it is my most watched Cinema 4D video.

where is preserve groups?
@@KevinP-i4k if you click on the actual icon for the extrude tool it should bring up the attribute window for extrude and it's just in there.

If anyone is struggling with 5:29 :
Make sure to select the "Cube", not the "Subdivision Surface" before you press c to make it editable :)

Ah! This series is so good! I want these videos every day forever now. Haha
Right!? 360 days of 360 tips coming right at ya!
Cinema 4D is my favorite modeling software
im watching this now. a video on subdivisions and polygon transformation broken down to it's basics would be greatly appreciated
FYI You can fix the problem at 9:35 by enabling "Weld Points" in the Symmetry settings.
hey! I'm a complete beginner at cinema 4d and I was having trouble at this step. Where can i find the symmetry settings option? thanks
@@zyn3ria714 Click Symmetry in the upper right, then in the porperties below look for weld points. I had to increase my tollerance to 5 cm.
Thanks for tip, but I have another issue, when try to zero points and hit enter it moves not only x axis but other axis as well, any idea why?

If the symmetry step (9:00) leaves you with a gap in the model, make sure the models X coordinates are at zero.
