Mine are since october in my basement in the dark and at the end of april i´ll put them outside, give them a good prune because they have some thin branches and give them some new soil on the top
We are getting a Norther blast, Its going to freeze hard. I have a few rooted plants still growing in a plastic rapped 10x4 nursery with a ceramic heater ready to keep them warm. Thanks Richard, for sharing.
My 12 Vietnam reds have the rust spots and many have had mushy branches. I have since trimmed them and have them covered. Hopefully they'll be okay come spring/summer. I've also used a 16/16/16 general garden fertilizer for their winter feeding
My DF plants took a major hit from the cold temps. The older growth did a bit better, but still a lot of damage. The branches have turn soft and or mushy. I plan on cutting the mushy parts back to the good part of the branch of possible. If mushy down to the soil, I will just remove that plant and replant more DF.
Thanks for the tips. I see your neighbors Orange trees are sharing their oranges with you, what do they taste like, are they super sweet without any acidity or tartness? I had some seedlings that were from fruit that tasted like that but I lost all of them last summer I don't know what happened. Thanks Richard
You’re welcome! Yes lots of oranges and they aren’t super sweet. Very juicy with some tartness. Really good for orange juice. Hope you’ll have a better dragon fruit season this year
Richard question on tip 4. I live in Orange County like you as well. How often are you fertilizing ? I know you are alternating dr earth then worm. So are you fertilizing twice a month?
Mine got fungus! I live in Northern California when it rained heavy and went below 45 degree, these plants are unhappy . What soil composition do you use?
Hi Richard, What will you do when the pot gets filled up with regular fertilizing. Covering in rainy season will be cumbersome for my 50 pots. Temperature ranges from 15 to 38⁰ C. They are doing well. Kerala -India.
Hi Richard, I recently checked one of my DF and it's not as plump as it used to be. I planted one of its cuttings next to it and it seems to be doing fine. We've had pretty cold nights - 18 degrees Celsius- I've also noticed that the bottom of the plant has gotten a little lighter but I don't suspect any sunburn since it hasn't affected the rest of the plant. What do you think might be the issue ?
Richard have you see the guy who covers all his plants with plankets ?? He seems to think keeping the due off his branches cures his rust issues ? Curious as I have mine indoor till warmer weather. I do have one variety that has spots indoors ? 70deg at 50% humidity, so I’m not sure rust is caused by due, rain or over watering??
I haven’t seen that guy so I’m not sure what he does. Rust can be cause of various factors but usually it’s a combination of cold weather and extra moisture
4:10 so, as long as the inner stem/stalk/bone/whatever is present, it’s ok? I have one DF where I had to remove all the green soft flesh at the bottom. It looks like a chicken wing now.
That’s exciting! There are a handful of trusted sellers in my FB group if you’re ever wanting to go that route. Would recommend having two just incase it’s not self-pollinating
Hello Richard, I grow dragon fruit in pots at home and I heard that dragon fruit is sensitive to air flow. How many hours a day should it be exposed to air flow and can it perform photosynthesis with the light I use daily? I have a separate question. Can we get the same result if we pollinate the same type of pollen with different flowers?
@@WhatPlantisthatPaul I live in Turkey and the weather is usually cold in winter. That's why I covered my dragon fruit with plastic wrap. Is this useful?
Hey Dragon Fruit Fam! Hope you found this helpful 😊

In our climate ( South India) biggest quest - survive dragon plant in summer time, because is sun burning.
Hey Richard , can it take heat in desert using semi shaded and alkaline water.
Mine got fungus! I live in Northern California when it rained heavy and went below 45 degree, these plants are unhappy . What soil composition do you use?
Hi Richard. I was planning on planting some dragonfruits today and live in Long Beach. Do you think the weather is still too cold?
You can plant but definitely have to work around the colder weather

Might be experiencing some root rot so check underneath the soil

Hi Richard
So if your using the Dr Earth Grow, are you not using flora nova any more??
I use flora nova when it’s time to help induce buds and fruits
By the way. Your face book group is impossible to join. Its asking me to answer a question that doesnt exist.
That’s strange. People are joining daily
That’s for sale cuts
