- Hello IT Pros, this is Alvendril! In this Video, "Chromebook Damaged by Water | Fixed ", I intentionally pour liquid on this Chromebook and then show how to try to fix it. The CB I use in this video is an 11 inches Acer Chromebook. However, this method can be used by any other brand.

Trying your solution to wet Lenovo Chromebook laptop today after spilling coffee on my keyboard yesterday! I have power and sign on screen but keyboard keys are not typing letters...I've gotten this laptop wet before and after drying it out for a day or two it always worked again! i’m not sure how sensitive the mother board is so if I had a a soda spill and I feel as though most of it reached the mother board and is still underneath in places i cannot reach, would there still be hope for it to turn back on, i’ve already removed the battery although i couldn’t remove it fully because the wiring is so tight but im not sure if im screwed
I’ve got a Toshiba Chromebook bought it in 2015, some water has spilled on the bottom of it quite a lot. I wiped the bottom and moved it to somewhere dry. I tried to turn it on the next day and all I see is a black screen and little flashes of light that you almost can’t see on the screen. What do I do ?

umm i have a question my chromebook is charging slow and it does not show when its charging on the screen but it does show next where the charger is plugged at and it does not charge when it on only when no one is using it and if its powered off what do i do? pls help me
Help i have a acer chromebook 315 and i cleaned it with water with a napkin and the keyboard stopped working but it still cut on and i was using the in screen keyboard but 2 minutes later it started turning off by it self and the screen started flickering on and off and wouldnt turn on at all also the led charge button started blinking also

hi, I've got water in my screen, how do I get it out? The patch is glowing a lot more bright than the rest of the screen and I don't know what to do.
I had a scarf wrapped around my chrome book when it was in my bag and a bit of rain water got on it, not a massive amount but since then ( A year ago now) the screen has been glitching sometimes it’s clear but soon reverts back to glitching. My question is their anything I can do for this now or am I too late?
Hello,
With screen/display issues I try connecting the device to an external monitor/tv. If the problem is present also in the external monitor then there is an issue with the motherboard. If there is no problem, then the issue could be the display on the chromebook or the interface/cable between the display and motherboard.

@@MyITWorkshop thanks for getting back to me. I’ve rebooted it and it seems to have helped a little bit no more continues glitchy lines but still not 100% clear.

I had a bit of water on my touchpad and i wiped it with a microfibre cloth and the mouse started to work for like 5 minutes. so i followed your steps. I couldn't take the back of the chromebook off because i didn't have a small screwdriver so i turned the chromebook upside down and put a fan on facing the back of the chromebook. my touchpad is now working. hopefully it stays working-fingers crossed

@@sinfulmonarchweeb8826 yes, i turned off my chromebook also, had my chromebook upside down. i didn;t use the fan for long but kept it upside down for air to get to it. hope it works for you also. good luck
How long did you have the fan on for?

Man... this is the second time I've done this to my laptop, two different ones! Both times they were plugged in when the incident occurred. I haven't checked my new one yet ... am I screwed ?

It's been 8 hours now!! I hope I'm not too late
We were able to get the chromebook back on, but now the bottom right displays the battery as always charging (even when it's not plugged in) with the battery icon fully loaded, and clicking on lower right will reveal what percentage the power has but not estimate how many hours. It will be hard to know when it really needs a charge or stop it from dying on me without constantly checking in on it manually. Is there any fix for this?
The chromebook is thirsty and needs more water.

what do i do about when it messed up the sound? i just spilt koolaid on it 5 hours ago and the audio is supe buggy, when it happened the audio stoped working imeadiatley and after i cleaned it it still didnt work and ive restarted the chromebook multiple times, the sound will work and then itll pause anything and the sound ceases to work, any idea how to fix this? everything works but the sound and im worried that itll do this for ever and i hate that im watching something fun or intersting and itll cease to work. i dont know whats going on

My Chromebook got water damage on the keyboard. I just let it dry, for about 8 hours, the keys that were broken are still broken, am I too late? I have a lenove touchscreen chromebook. The water settled for about an hour before some keys started not working

sooo the back doesn’t come off of my chromebook. i unscrewed all the screws and all the edges come off except the ones at the top near where the laptop bends. any tips?

That happened to me on the model in the video. 2 screws were covered by tiny rubber, well…..covers. I had to remove them before seeing the screws. Maybe that’s the issue with yours.

I'm so screwed I let mine dry and I removed the keys buy I couldn't take of the back it's kind of working but I need to keep it plugged in or it will shut down also the battery icon has ceased to exist so I don't know if it is charged or flag

I'd connect external speakers or headphones to try the sound. If it works, then I'd say the speaker on the chromebook stopped working and need to be replaced.
I'll check on my chromebook if i can replicate the problem.

Thank you for posting this! I just have one question- so my roommate spilled soda on my keyboard a few months ago, I followed the steps and was able to get it completely dry and the computer itself has been working fine (from a digital perspective) ever since! However, some of the keys on the side that got spilled on have been having some issues. Every key still works, just some of them require extra force when pushing them down to get the letter/symbol to actually appear. I'm thinking this is due to the sticky soda having compromised them all those months ago. Is this something that can be repaired? I'm fine to take it into a shop or do it myself, I'm just curious if there is anyway that this can be addressed. Thank you!

Correct, the stickiness is due to the soda. It will depend on the model, but in most cases chromebook’s keyboard are disposable. Meaning it will easy to replace it than to troubleshoot single keys.
Another solution would to use an external usb/usb c keyboard.

Try spraying alcohol on the keyboard to rinse off the soda and let it dry for a few minutes. It should evaporate quickly.

I'd, if possible, to remove it from the device itself, carefully of course. Then, dry both side with a fan or paper towels and test it again.
If that does not work, most likely it needs to be replaced.

Normally, all the data on your chromebook is also available in your google drive. Now, if files were left on the CB’s hard drive only, yes, those file will be deleted.

well its been weeks for me after my Chromebook got wet and I started looking for methods today because the power light works now and that shown me that it still can work.
It's a Samsung chromebook but the power light keeps on switching between green blue and red.
Red means powered off and charging. blue means powered on or powered on and charging. and green means fully charged
also it's only been an hour so it might work tomorrow, might not.

A laptop can work without a battery.
I'd say there is still water on different components of the laptop.
Opening the case helps to dry it out.

Let it dry some time. However, I'd try removing the keyboard and let it dry like that.
If you do that and still doesn't work, I'd say the keyboard needs replacement.

The sooner you try the more chances you'll have. The reason being garlic sauce is sticky, so you may need to gently remove it with paper towel.

I left my chromebook next to a bottle of bubbles inside a box and my dumb mind didn’t think the bubbles would spill all over. Well it did. My chromebook won’t turn on. It light up when I put it to charge but after a while it stopped and hasn’t light up ever since. Btw, I have no knowledge of those tools used in the video. I have a bunch of tools that look the same as that one in the video, but it isn’t working. I’m probably using the wrong screwer or smth. It’s a Dell chromebook

There are model like the HP i own that have the screws below the cushions on the back of the chromebook.
You'd need to carefully remove the pads and you most likely see the screws.

I dropped juice in my backpack and my chrome book was sitting up and I’m pretty sure the juice broke it cus the chrome book won’t charge at all

If you dont have fans, i’d say at least a day, removing the back cover and in the position shown in the video.
