- In this bass lesson we go over the classic country bass line, perfect in it's simplicity. I use both a Fender Jazz and Hofner Club for this bass lesson so you can also compare tone when playing these bass lines.

Thanks for the encouragement that it’s ok to just play root and fifth. Love your voice.
You're welcome and thanks!
Country bass is mostly in the hands. Those few notes can be done with so many subtleties of expression, it’s wondrous once you realize it. Great lessons! Thanks!
Best bass lessons that I’ve found. Thank you!
You're welcome! Thanks for tuning in.
This has been up for two days and I just now saw it in my feed. No notification. I usually do get them but not this time. Great lesson and good examples. Great job as always Steve.
Thanks John. Happy New Year brother!
@@stevekonbass you’re welcome. Happy New Year to you as well. !!

Thanks so much David! Glad the videos have helped you. Music is awesome and you never know what it'll do for you. Ya might write a great song, ya might meet new people, and you might just have a great time playing. Hope you enjoy the journey! Please share the videos if you can. It helps to keep them in circulation. All the best. God bless.
Hey Butch here, I remember a lot of cover bands playing Family Tradition, always favorite! Good info on the structure, thanks!
Oddly enough, that tune came later for me. Started playing it when we moved down south and the audience liked it.
Thanks and Best Greetings from Switzerland.
Hello Switzerland!
Dude, I love the way you teach, and I love what you teach. I haven’t picked up my face and 30 years. I’m a new window and decided it’s high time since the musicscene in my area for baby boomers is literally booming! Thanks for the lessons man you’re awesome.!!! 👍👍👍😊
Well I'm glad you dig the lessons Norma. Hope you enjoy playing again. Where's that music scene booming?
Prescott Arizona. “Whiskey Row”. It’s a hoot!
I am on it .. Thanks so much
You're welcome. Have fun!!
Great lesson. Love to see a fellow Hofner fan!
Yes! I'd like to put together a bluesy, soul, retro sound group one day where I can break the Hofner out.
So glad I found your channel. You teach in an understanding way!
Thank you!! Here's a playlist for all the lessons: ruclips.net/p/PLsFosTB39eVBVllLkZP_RAIjNmviv8nYe Happy New Year and happy bass playing to you!
Phenomenal teacher. You helped me out so much, thank you
Happy to hear that!
Awesome lesson, this is the way my late Dad wanted me to learn (Your Cheating Heart )
I hit the notification bell today. I scooped up a bass about a month ago and just wanted to say thanks for the lessons brother 🤘
You're welcome brother. A new bass is a fun thing. There are lots of songs and techniques just waiting to be played on it. Have fun!
thanks very much master, you sing good too
You're welcome.
Thank you for this informative video. It will help with my practice work. You have a great singing voice!

Another magnificent GEM Steve! Great voice too Brother. Your a 1st CLASS Musician
Thank you !
Thank you for the lesson from a new sub! Appreciate the lesson and looking forward to learning ! 😁
Thanks for the sub Noah. Enjoy the musical journey.
Great beginners lesson, learning both the major and minor scales, and root fifth inversions! (well i call them inversions) great job teaching theory in the simplest of songs.. makes it easy to learn and use later while playing gigs
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked the lesson.
Hey Stevek, I've been working on watching your Bass Guitar for Beginners video, a few more minutes to go. It's been VERY helpful to me, and this one as well!! I picked up acoustic / electric long ago and wanted to play in our church group, but they have 3 guitar players already, 2 are pretty good and the third guy is over 70 and played many years 6 days a week as his job. He can really rock it. So I watched a video or two, picked up a used bass and practised playing along to songs at home in my "studio" for 6 or 7 months. Mentioned to one of the music group my intentions, since we had lost our bass player a year or so before. He said come out to practise before the service. I could play fairly basic stuff, the odd step up or down....but I'd like to step up my game. Now I can practise what you have shared and hopefully kick it up a notch in the coming year. So, a heartfelt thanks for your help. Your explanation of things is spot on for my needs, many "aha!" moments. Kudos good sir and you've earned a subscriber, and commenter too.
I love to hear you had that "Aha" moment! That's awesome. Yeah, quite a few players have told me they intend to play in the church. I hope I can help you discover new things.
Steve, JUst wanting you to know how much fun we are having jamming on Wayfaring Stranger with your help and advice for simple bass lines. Added the F and C but keeping it simple! Such a great song to jam with different tempos. Thank You so much! Always loved this song and you sing it well. Cheers!
That's awesome! I'm gonna email you the notation I did for it.
@@stevekonbass That would be amazing, thank you! If you and your wife ever would like to take a trip to Yellowstone, we have a guest house and would love to jam with you! Seriously!
That sounds like a fun idea. We used to take road trips all the time but 2 little Chihuahuas entered our life and have cramped our style, lol.
@@stevekonbass Well, let us know if you ever head west, our bunkhouse is dog friendly! It even has a guitar (a Recording King Dirty 37) hanging in there to be used on songs like this around the fire pit.
Very tempting Nancy, thanks. I'm sure the views there are somethin' else.
Steve, really like your teaching method as it makes so much sense to me and easy to understand. At 76 I just bought my first Bass guitar? I know what took so long? Thanks
That's great!! Hope you enjoy it.
And always in the. Key of G
Great lesson, Steve, and a sweet singing voice too! I am curious though, how would you handle this with a slow 3/4 time country ballad? Like in the key of C, would you just alternate on the first note in each measure? That seems to sound right.
Thanks! You can approach it by counting 1-2-3-1-2-3 and can play something like C-2-3-G-2-3-C-2-3-G-2-3 using the root to fifth move.
Wonderful lesson! Loved to play along with you :) How hard is to play bass and sing for you? I find itway harder than rock and blues stuff. What effects are you using on vocals on Wayfering Stranger? Greetings from Poland!
Thanks and "Hello Poland!" For me, playing and singing is pretty easy. But, I've been doing it a long time and repetition helped. I was just using a reverb on my Zoom R16 recorder. Here's a video tutorial on it if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/n_44S76OPYQ/видео.html
How do you 'walk back up' like with what notes please
Well, let's say we're in A major and we're doing the country root to fifth line... A E A E A E A... we can walk up by playing E F# G# A.
So the whole line would be A E A E A E A E F# G# A
@@stevekonbass Thank you for that 🙂
Is your heater out? Lol. Do you prefer the J over the P bass, if so, can you explain why?
Best time of year, when it's cold. Yes, prefer J over P. Thinner neck and wider variety of tone.
I’m not sure if I’m not hearing it but I don’t know if your saying what fret to play?
Root and fifth. So, let's say the song is in A. Play A (the root note) on the fifth fret E string, and the E ( the fifth) on the 7th fret A string. If we used the key of G as example, it would be G (the root) 3rd fret E string, and D (fifth) 5th fret A string. Hope that makes sense.
@@stevekonbass Thank you.
