1:18 Sin of Greed
8:23 Prince Mammon
13:50 Outro
The demon princes of hell aren't all destruction and explicit horror, sometimes they are a lot more insidious. We all like to think we are immune to the indescribable brutality of the past and could never fall to the temptations of grand sins like wrath and would never knowingly do immense harm to another. But for todays princes of hell explained video, greed is the name of the game. Everyone wants more money, from the poorest soul to the richest oligarch, we all want more money. The layers of hell are nothing but diverse, from the most violent to the most charismatic beings, but Mammon doesn't really require anything to tempt us humans. The demonic greed of mammon is truly a thing to behold, from his early aspects in the bible to occult literature of history, we'll go over the lore of mammon and come to understand all there is to know about him. The bible stories and occult literature don't have much regarding the demon, but greed is definitely a topic worth deep diving into. God of greed, angel of gold, and grand tempter of the entire human race, mammon lore runs deep and has a hold of us deeper than anything. Along with demon prince mammon we will learn all about the sin of greed and the player of hell he governs over. The fallen angel or mere concept of wanting itself is a very grand topic, but the biblical stories and demon history will help us learn more of ourselves and the world itself. Within the layers of hell exist a great many different demons of importance. Of the countless dark hordes, there are only a few that hold the title of demon prince. Representing the seven deadly sins these great princes of hell are darkness incarnate, the absolute worst aspects of existence. The subject of today is perhaps the most unknown of the demon princes, but also the most influential. Mammon the demon prince representing Greed has had a vice grip on humanity since the idea of value and exchange was thought up. As long as there are two people left on the planet, someone is going to want what the other has. When you are constantly in the pursuit of more, whether it be wealth, influence, or power, oftentimes it is never enough. For those people it is Mammon guiding them through the never ending road to death and an express ticket to his realm of hell. From his domain of Greed to his history as a demon, without any further ado, let’s discuss the treasurer of hell, Mammon. The mythology explained series will cover all the the demon princes and the layers of hell so stay tuned for that! if you're interested in ancient religions and general mythology and demonology, watch the entire demon prince series.

We need a video about atvaka or Buddha
Finally! Mammon is such a interesting and obscure demon, it's about time Tony covered him!
Not interesting at all. Deadly.
belphegor is best
really? WHat did you learn? It was 8 minutes about history of greed then basic wiki info from Milton.
@@lauraanne5175 I know from experience. Mammon is a foul foul creature for whom there is no place between the living.
@@pauliussvirskas6734 As a Luciferian, I wholeheartedly disagree with you. Maybe you approached him wrong? Or had fear when you encountered him. I truly wish you the best and hope one day you might try again with a better outcome.

RED SUN IN THE SKY
Found the Mammonite.
Shadow Hearts (ps2) introduced me to Mammon all those years ago
Peak game and peak demon, good choice
Good gravy, Tony! I've never heard such succinct and logically justified explanations of greed! You completely described not only what it is, but isn't, and made the case for charity and hypocrisy! I had to stop what I was doing and devote my entire attention to your work! Brilliant. Simply brilliant. These videos get better every time.
Thank you!
Wow thanks a ton for this comment! Talking about the sin itself is probably my favorite segments of these demon prince videos, and I'm so glad people are enjoying and taking away good messages from it.
@@Tony4You When you are only focused on the sin itself you are turning the demons into one dimensional christian bogie men. There is so much more depth you seem to not understand or maybe care about.
Tony slowly becoming an epastor
It's basically what I do at this point lol
@@Tony4You honestly you are more knowledgeable than most pastors I know
its great to see a video describe a subject better than most preists
Hey thanks! I try my best toe dive as deep as I can go
That's not saying much
fun fact: goat eyes arent inheretly demonic. their pupils are rectangular because they have wide vision to look out for predators from the perhiperal.
another banger vid tony!
I enjoy learning about the history of the prince’s of hell great work
Thanks! Eventually I will cover all of them and be sure to make a full compilation video
- Opens SMT wiki to see how Atlus portrayed Mammon
- Shows picture of Okumura's shadow from P5 front and center
Yep, basically sums up his personality so much. Though I would prefer Mammon themselves getting a new visual redesign to align with the other deadly sins.
Also, I just saw it from one of the comments, but belated Happy Birthday Tony!
Considering the Shadow Bosses are labeled as "Given name, Prince of Hell, Surname" (For example "Kunikazu Mammon Okumura" "Suguru Asmodeus Kamoshida" "Junya Beal Kaneshiro")
@@MegaPokefan97 Wait fr? I only saw them as "Shadow (insert surname here)" and nothing more.
I still believe that the Shadow Selves in Persona 5 are still considered demons though. Even Shadow Kamoshida refers to himself as a "demon" right before you start fighting him.
Happy birthday tony!
Wait it's his birthday?

Great video as always Tony!
I would love to see added sections where you explore these demons as portrayed in SMT and other games. I was thinking about the Mammon Machine from Chrono Trigger all episode.
🤮🤮🤮Try reading a book or taking a course on demons.
These demon explanations are my favorite on RUclips 😍
Thanks a lot! Really glad people enjoy the series
One of your best yet! Loved the background music - it was just hit after hit after hit.
I was for real waiting for a "In SMT/Persona" part towords the end. Im glad youre covering theology and mythology for its own sake. You've made me reflect on my actions I've made today.
Great video as always
Thanks legend
This is really good information. I've been considering the subject of mammon lately. I never really understood it as a demon/personality, but as a concept or a mindset.
Your open describes it as the pursuit of "wealth, influence or power." I would only push back slightly, as power and influence are essentially the same thing. I describe mammon as the pursuit of wealth, power, and fame/popularity. None of them are inherently evil. But pursuit of any of the 3 of them at the expense of virtue and righteousness is evil. I call money, power and fame the unholy trinity of mammon.
Great video. I'm now subscribed.
He's Interesting enough to be featured more in SMT! They should give him new art based on his retro pixel art, like Angra Mainyu in Dx2
Great video! Was wondering
wondering whether you or anyone else knew any good books on theology? Preferably not too academic
¡No seas mammon! Great video as always
This is a genuinely great explanation of greed! Fantastic as always, Tony 👏
Thanks a ton brother!
@@Tony4You Heck yeah, dude!
Always a pleasure to hear some silent hill in the background ambience.. means "we're not alone."
(the silent majority... being heard at last.. let's pray "they" are ready.)
Great video's BTW, love em.. keep em coming brother and/or sister. (No one get's outta here alive.. most people seem to think they're gonna last forever.)
"You can't take it with ya." I try to remind people.. though honestly it's only worth explaining when someone actively seeks the information..
I do love the almost absurd fact that "no matter how well you play the game, we all end the same." (at least physically.. obviously the soul moves on (or doesn't) based on how we live.
Great video as always,
I'm a new subscriber brw
Thanks for watching, and I hope you keep enjoying the content!
Tony did his best not to say "Fame, Wealth, Power" in the beginning
What's that music playing during that Sin of Greed part?
I like your videos
Hey thanks!
Gotta love that RE BGM.
You'd love to read the book of Ben'Sira, it has a passage about how you should never lend rich people money, as you'll never see it back.
In another passage, it advises not to give friends, family and others power over your things, for they might leave your will and testament empty for your family to inherit.
Mammon would definitely use Macca beam every turn, no doubt.
Atlus, hire this man
What is the song that was playing in the first minute? Sounds really good
Resident Evil Remake save room theme
I Appreciate The RE Music
Mammon only appeared in ONE fucking game (SMT if...) and never again, such a waste
It's funny how that out of most of the demons that represent the deadly sins, Atlus doesn't even make Mammon be a common appearance in the main line series when compared to say Lucifer, Satan, Beelzebub, Asmodeus and even Belphegor. I had to look up if Mammon appears in any Atlus games, and the only mainline ones he appears in is SMT2 and SMT IF, outside of the meaning of every boss you fight in Persona 5. Heck, I'm fully sure if he's even a recruit-able demon or just meant to be a boss in any appearance he's in.
I think that Gustave from smt V would have been perfect as Mammon, his design just fits, I don't know why they made him some random merchant
Explains a lot of what's happening today
nice channel fond it today
Fun fact: In latin america the word "mam*n" (I'm censoring it because YT) is used as an insult, more often to describe a pretentious, greedy or uptight person
Wow! Is that Jo Mammon from the computer game Like A Canadian 😂
wtf is the dog intrested in at 3:30? is that a pair of gloves or part of the clothes a scarf or what?
Never any love for Pazuzu and the other Mesopotamian demons🤧
At first I thought the thumbnail said Pot of Greed
What's the song at the beginning? It uses Gaster's Theme!
Resident Evil Remake save room theme
"Oh look, it's the actual thing American Christians worship.
Sincerely, an American Christian that DOESN'T worship Mammon"
All jokes aside though I am loving your videos and the demons that represent the 7 deadly sins.
What’s the music in the start?
I thought greed and avarive were different things and wondered why there weren't 8 deadly sins💀
According to most theological books they are synonyms, though they can be used at different times depending on the context. Overall I'd say they are synonyms
Greed is the desire to own more things. Avarice is stubornly refusing to part with what you alreadly have.
At least, that's how I understand it.
Is there no demon in SMT for Mammon?
Lucifuge being the creator of Macca could make him interchangable with Mammon
Even in the Hellaverse Mammon is still a total tool
Thank you mammon for smooth process of payments 😊
Early! 🎉🎉🎉
Day 1 gang always come through
4:41 So should people not seek to become professional chefs? Should restaurants even exist? Is it okay to be a chef as long as you make only low-quality food? Is it okay to run a restaurant as long as it serves only low-quality food?
6:51 Wait, wait, wait. What does GOVERNMENT have to do with SELF-enrichment? Isn't the primary function of government to force people to act against their own rational self-interest to serve the so-called "greater good?" Or am I being too Randian in my thinking?
7:11 Isn't that collectivism? Wouldn't that sort of "altruism" make everyone a parasite? Everyone would be the oppressor of everyone. Not that materialism is good. There are more than two options. Materialism often means sacrificing one's own individual freedom in favor of tedious banality.
7:21 That sounds good on paper, but what about planning for the future? What about allocating resources for future use? Should that really be classified as "hoarding" or does it fall within the purview of what they used to call "prudence?"
8:05 Caesar didn't earn that money, though. He expropriated it because he was a predatory parasite. Taxation is theft.
8:15 If that's true, then why should be bother working? If nothing is truly ours, yet we labor, then that makes us both slaves and tenants. We're born into a prison of endless misery, all punishment and no reward no matter what we do, even though none of us asked to exist.
I just noticed that SMT wasn’t mention at any point in the video, I like it. Seems like a natural evolution of the breakdown videos from religious figures in the games to religious figures in general.
Nah, that card is far too complicated for such a short video.
Out of curiosity, beyond the association with food and money respectively, how would you differentiate gluttony and greed? Both seem to be a desire for excess of material things.
I’d say greed harms others while gluttony harms oneself
Gluttony is indirect harm to others and direct harm to you, while greed is direct harm to others and indirect harm to you. Greed is much more insidious as too many people cross the line of self interest to downright avarice
@@Tony4You I see
People are already greedy as is, now for a God.
No reference to SMT if... Mammon? Ahw...
Leopold 2nd of belgium was the real-life version.
Is there an exception for those who find happiness in massive amounts of megaten games lol
Demons don’t own hell, they are doomed to hell
The Hell we see as theirs is what I interpret as the Demon Realm, and the Hell described by God and His Son from the scriptures is the real Hell where irredeemables and devils end up for their crimes on humanity, nature, and God.
This isn’t real to begin with…
what tells you so?
@@langerd6711
Huh you never describe them as in SMT.
Making a little bit of a departure for some videos since there are plenty of demons that don't appear in video games as much and still deserve to be talked about
He appeared in Destiny Child. (RIP)
Mamon and mamona mean very diferent things in spanish.

Fun fact, in Latin America the word mamon is an insult to refer to a greedy, uptight, pretentious or self righteous person
If someone acts like they're better than you, usually rich folk, that's the insult you use
What does smt mean?
Shin megami tensei which is Japanese for new goddess reincarnation
also it means play nocturne
Or smtV or smt apocalypse, devil survivor or imagine or if your really lucky to find the two raidou games or if really really lucky SMT 1 or 2
And thats not including demi kids, persona , DX2 and devil summoner or jack bros
