Faroese lyrics: Tú ert enn so dárandi ung - sum nýborið vár, ið vitjar heimin á sólgyltum flytfuglaveingjum - tú ert einans átjan ung ár. Tú ert enn so eggjandi rein - sum perlandi tár - sum døgg hin, ið skírdi vársins fyrstsprotnu nálir - tú ert einans átjan ung ár. Tú ert enn so lekjandi góð - hevur ongum veitt sár, ið bløðir í loynd, sum tær flestu. Tí ert tú dreymakvinna mín - tú, ið ert einans átjan ung ár. English translation: You are still so captivatingly young - like newly born spring, that visits the world on sun gilded migrating bird wings - you are only eighteen young years. You are so excitingly clean/pure - like sparkling tears - like dew he who baptized the spring's first bloomed needles - you are only eighteen young years. You are still so therapeutically good - haven't given anyone wounds, that bleeds in hiding - like most do. You are my dream woman - you, who are only eighteen young years.
This is one of the most beautifull songs I've ever heard. I don't understand one word of it (I'm danish) but Eivørs voice is so outstanding and emotional. The first times I heard this song I couldn't help crying.
Faroese is an insular Scandinavian language, it wasn't influenced by finnish but by Celtic languages, because first Far Oer settlers were Vikings from Ireland (often with Irish wives). Maybe you hear a similarity with english language because of the common germanic roots.
I'm an Aggrotech fan, and I detest Guitar, and live acts.....so I'd be a hard-sell. But this was absolutely, devastatingly beautiful. Eivor Palsdottir has a new fan.
Does anybody know where i can find the text to this song? This song is so fantastic that i just can't stop listening to it. The same with the original from Hanus G. Johansen! I'm trying to learn a bit Faroese and this would certainly help a lot......
I'm sure you're right, but Wikipedia page about Faroese language says: "many of the settlers weren't really Norwegians, but descendants of Norwegian settlers in the Irish Sea"; and: "As a result, Celtic languages influenced both Faroese and Icelandic". If these quotes are wrong, inform Wikipedia.
yes and no. When the vikings first came, they were only men. So the lack of women made the vikings do what the vikings did best and went to scotland and ireland and took some women.
faroese is the middle link between icelandic, and the countinetal languages danish, swedish, ect.... native faroese understand basicly evrything of the other languages. and are also able to speak them fluently, with little or no training.
@Deshollinador ... Thank you, man! I don't wanna be inconvenient, but do you know where can I get the lyrics? ... I can't find it in the internet because I can't even write a sentence of the lyrics by ear... lol ... May you help me, man? ... Any doubts about Portuguese or portuguese music, just let me know, and I'll help you... =P

no, you have got it wrong, the viking that settled on the Faroe islands came from Norway, and and the west Britain was ther main viking destination. and there is little to no cealtic influense to the Faroese language, it was Norn(nothern scotish and shetlandic) that had a cealtic infuence.
It's strange how I as a Swede think old Norse sounds like a mix between east German with the rough CH sounds and Finnish phonetically. Always found that weird as it should sound more like Swedish/Norwegian logically :P.
I wish this song was on her setlist again
This is one of my eivor favorites
just lovely !!!

Icelandic sounds so beautiful.
Its not Icelandic.
Its Faroese
Jeg fatter heller ikke en brik xD Men lyder bare så sygt nice :O!
Hon säger att hon skal synge en låt som handlar om henne selv og en dreng fra Färöyene. Átjan betyder arton. :)
I all ära Buffy Saint-Marie och Joan Baez men ingenting går upp mot Eivør! Helt otrolig lyskraft från den sköna Norden!
Så vackra ord! ❤️Jag tycker med!
Folk music..
no menny faroe islanders understand icelandic more than the other way around
