Some folks may think it odd, but I enjoy going around grave yards/places of rest. I find it quite peaceful, yet sometimes sad, when I see graves neglected and falling into disrepair.
Not at all. I live very near the cemetery where Shirley Temple and Steve Jobs are buried. I sometimes go there just for the peace and quiet. I always think that perhaps these people find the peace in death that they never had in life. My grandparents are buried in an old cemetery and it is sad that some of them have fallen into disrepair. I watch to make sure that theirs doesn't go that way.
I don't think it's odd my son died at 8.5years old. I spend a lot of time at his grave it is very peaceful there several civil war soldiers buried nearby sometimes I just read there they are special places!!

It is so beautifully maintained. May they Rest In Peace. My mother and father built a home next to a small and very old cemetery. A Halloween interview by a local news station quoted my mother as saying she was not afraid of ghosts. She had lived there about 40 years at the time. A better Quote was , “They are peaceful neighbors”.

This is a question for Sinead. If one was in London and wanted to hire you for a day or two to hit all the high points of London, how much would you charge as a private hire tour guide? Really and truly when the lovely Sinead is giving these walking tours, it feels as though she is speaking directly to you. Free Tours by Foot - London, you have found a real gem. From her presentation to that wonderful lilting accent, you couldn’t have found a better person to be a spokesperson for your organization. I will continue to watch as long as she continues to work for you. You truly are a blessing, Sinead and you make not being able to travel a bit more bearable.
This has to be one of the greatest compliments I have ever received Sincerely grateful for your kind words and for watching I will post a link to my private tour page tomorrow In the meantime trying to calm my blushing Thank you again , compliments like these make my job worthwhile Sinead 😘

I saw an orb coming from the grave on the left at 44 minutes and 18 seconds exactly on this film while you were in the cemetery. Please keep up the good work you’re the best!
This was such a "hauntingly" beautiful tour! Would love more spooky tours as we head into fall. Sinead, you got me through Covid. I would snuggle up on my couch with a blanket, turn on a walking tour, sleep and dream about walking through London! Thank you and bless you! Your videos mean more than you know. I can't wait to come visit and tour in-person!
Welcome aboard! Glad we could be of service in these challenging times. It's always an honour to bring a bit of London to you. Thanks for watching, Angelea, and for subscribing.
That was responsible and respectable of you, regarding George's grave with his mother, although something tells me George would of been, ok with it. As a teenager I've always been fascinated with graveyards and tbh, I was told by somebody that there was something wrong with me 😞 going by the number of views you have so far, clearly there are a lot of people, with something wrong with them 😉
Cemeteries are fascinating, esp. from a genealogical perspective. I've done family research in a few cemeteries near where I live in Central NY. It would be nice if Highgate Cemetery had an online database where we could look up the names of whoever is buried there. I wonder if any of my relatives are interred at Highgate. The Manwarings are from England. Re. George Michael, I can understand why his family w/b concerned about his grave being overrun by fans. There's nothing wrong with visiting and saying prayers but I would be concerned if fans kept leaving mementos, flowers, etc. much like they did at his home. That s/b left up to his family, who could always move his grave and that of his mother & sister Melanie to a secure mausoleum. I heard that his dogs are buried in that plot, I noticed that you went by it, Sinead. It's in a nice, quiet and beautiful location.
.. It's understandable many people associate graveyards with (perhaps personal) pain and grief alone and are unable to grasp how someone else could feel at peace walking there.. I'm in your corner though I've gone there once in a while just to reflect on existence and find the really old graves from before the 1900's fascinating as well..
Theres nothing wrong with you. Death is just apart of life and it cant just be avoided or swept under the rug. I have family that i buried just last year and go there all the time to visit and i think my biggest concern is "are they taking care of everything around here?" and "Are people being respectful?" and thats about it. I love to meander through cemeteries as well and for my brithday during lock downs i drove my kids and husband to westwood memorial to visit Marilyn Monroe! and it was AWESOME!!! Some many other famous people buried there too! if you get a chance definitely go out there as see it! I plan on going back to visit hollywood forever where theres a ton more famous people from the golden era! ; )
There was something very calming and comforting about this video. The cemetery is quite beautiful. I loved your mothers comment. I will be saving this video to watch over and over again. Thank you so much for your time and energy.
It’s a beautiful Cemetery .Full of wonderful headstones. That’s why people are so drawn too these places .The quiet, peace and the beauty .A wonderful get away from busy life ..Thank you for the tour.Love n Light 🥰
The highgate cemetery in england has to be without a doubt one of the coolest , most breathtaking , visually stunning , scariest and most awesome graveyards I've ever seen in my entire life ever and it's in a bunch of my favorite british horror film's as well and we'll everybody knows and if they don't the british make the best horror film's ever period !!! 2.4.22 Sinead, thank you for a lovely video. On video timed at 8.48 is the grave of Professor Man Fong Mei, the founder of Acumedic Chinese Medicine on Camden High Street. I was a student in the very first set studying Traditional Chinese Medicine. Prof Mei was a very kind, generous, humourous tutor and well liked by all. Sinead, All blessings for a wonderful year.☘️
I applaud your sensibility and the respect you have paid to the persons who are interred in this cemetery. My grandmother and her parents were volunteer caretakers of the small cemetery directly next door to the home in grew up in. A large cemetery is directly across the street. So I was brought up with a wider appreciation and understanding of cemeteries. I have always considered them as beautiful places. The flowers, the plantings, and of course the stones. So very varied, and interesting. Thank you for your sensitivity and care in bringing this glimpse of 2 beautiful Victorian London cemetaries.

Thank you for all the interesting tours. I hope to visit London again when the pandemic is over, in the meanwhile, I'm watching these! 11:30 I'm amazed by this place. It's like the wealthy have gotten their own little houses on a street full of neighbours even after death!
"do you dig graves?" "yeah. Yeah they're alright, yeah" "I'm so glad. I think they're wonderful!" Truly enjoyed this walk with you through one of the cemeteries that's on my To Visit list (pref while still alive ha) Came to London in 2019 and because of the philistines I travelled with couldn't make it here. Sinead, thanks for all those fascinating videos. I love how respectful you are in this video, being in a graveyard. You focus on the subject seriously and yet with a smile. Keep up the great work.
Well done Sinead, a really informative and respectful tour. I did a tour there with a group of students from the Open University nearly 30 years ago. One of the students freaked out when a dove flew out of the mausoleums and brushed through her hair. The cemetery is a fantastic place to visit.
11:29 oh it looks so naked without the Cedar tree. I really still mourn the loss of that tree. I visited Highgate West once in 2015 and back then it was only possible with guided tours. I need to return one day, once this pandemic is over and visit it again. At least I still saw the old old tree. Until I can return to London I enjoy videos just as your excellent ones ... so thank you for all these lovely walks.
Perfect rainy day creating the perfect atmosphere for a stroll through the cemetery. Its so lush with all the overgrowth and a bit spooky with its leaning headstones. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and your commentary Sinead. Thankyou!

Thank you Sinead! Love your work. A few years ago my mum got a call from the cemetery where her mum and dads cremated remains were and said that if you don’t pay a certain amount for 15 years they will be removed. So much for eternal resting in peace 😔
Afraid these rules apply to graves and Ashes burials. In England, we basically rent a plot for x number of years, then the Cemetery asks for a fee again. Sad but true, though I don't know if Burial places for other Religions are different to "Christian based" ones.
@@dianamanwaring4794 If the fees are not paid, for one reason or another, the plaques or headstones are removed and stored elsewhere. They do not dig up the bodies, but the graves may be made deeper with the original inhabitant going further down and someone new buried on top.
My house overlooks a cemetery when my mother first visited, she said the dead can't hurt you only the living can do that. We still live there. This walk was just wonderful.
Hello SINEAD! You’ve made the most relaxing peaceful video tour ever. I loved listening to you talk in a calm, soft voice. You are like a real storyteller. This graveyard is a beautiful place. Thanks for sharing!

I bounce between South Carolina (in the US) and New Orleans as home. I watch the New Orleans tours to keep my homesickness at bay while I'm in South Carolina (& love that you included footage of Metarie Cemetery at the start of your tour). I have recently discovered Sinead & ADORE her tours. I've yet to visit Britain & Ireland but plan to (once the pandemic craziness is over). I love how wild and natural the cemeteries are in Britain (& Europe). I know it is harder to maintain the tombs when nature takes over, but it's so beautiful. I much prefer it to the artificially manicured cemeteries in the US.
Thanks again for watching both channels, Joy! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy Sinead's videos, please share her with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.

I clicked as soon as I saw Highgate hoping you would go pay respects to Elizabeth for me until the day I can come across the large ocean to be there myself before it's too late. It's so Wonderful to know such a Good soul as your's is there whispering in respect! Elizabeth's story is tragic and pain filled indeed. What she endured modeling for that painting is absolutely heartbreaking. Let alone her marriage! Thank You for, well, being You!

@@Sineadlondontourguide No Ma'am, Thank You!!! These are sacred spaces to me. There are 7 of them behind my house. Sadly, over time many souls are forgotten as stones wear away. I encourage all who can to visit or get in touch with Cemetery Associations in their areas and volunteer to help identify the forgotten. To also make sure the war memorial markers are placed on the right graves. Many are not 😢 I'm pretty sure some of the plaques placed for Veterans of World War 1 accompanying stones for those not born until World War 2 and the like just aren't right. The caretakers of the graveyards behind my house were totally unaware of two other graveyards way at the top of the hill back there in the woods 😢 Or how even in death there are separation fences and walls between the Irish cemetery, the Russian, the German Catholic and just plain forgotten Souls with no one to visit when all family then too pass on and names wear away. And if you ever get the chance to come across the pond and visit Boston, Mother Goose has her own stone in the Old North Church but far better, 20 miles north is Sleepy Hollow in Concord Massachusetts. Ralph Waldo Emerson's stone is a Giant Boulder up on Authors Ridge with his friends all close by. Henry David Thoreau, The Alcott family, Nathaniel Hawthorne and so many others :) Again, Thank You All for your Wonderful work! ✌ 🕊 ✌
I actually used to live on a housing estate and my front door opened up to the view of the old part of Highgate cemetery where Karl Marxis is buried. I could actually sell the tomb stone and the cemetery from my kitchen window. It's an amazing place . I used to walk over there a lot. The older part was very run down and dangerous during the early 80s. They still did tours of the older part but you had to stick with the tour guild. The part of Highgate cemetery I could see from my kitchen window was safer and as I said I would often take walks around there with my daughter and new born baby in his pram. I never felt in anyway scared and as she said it had a kind of peace about it, I haven't been there in years but I'm thinking of going 1 more time as I'm not getting any younger, amazing cemetery u would never no you were in the middle of London. Thank you for reminding me of those days spent walking my 2 kids 💖 💓 💕 💗

Being a former cemetery grounds-keeper (and grave-digger) I deeply appreciated you employing a low speaking tone whilst you walked about. Honouring the dead is virtuous. Prior to The Second World War, my grandmother would frequent Highgate cemetery to read, to compose poetry and to write in her diary. Years ago, my Gran told me, "There is only ONE kind of vampire -- the non-existent kind." Ha! By-the-bye, my favourite vampire film is, "Count Dracula" (BBC 1977). Louis Jordan portrayed Dracula. That film is the most-faithful adaptation of the novel by Bram Stoker. Many thanks Sinead, for this fascinating video. Take care dear and lovely lady. -- W
@@Sineadlondontourguide -- I'm pondering a rewrite of my short story based on a "ghost" of a WWI British pilot. My Gran informed me that pilot was buried somewhere in Highgate cemetery. Hi Sinead, beautiful tour of Highgate. You may want to check out Faces of the Forgotten. The host is Ron and he is in the Chicagoland area in Illinois.

That was responsible and respectable of you, regarding George's grave with his mother, although something tells me George would of been, ok with it. As a teenager I've always been fascinated with graveyards and tbh, I was told by somebody that there was something wrong with me 😞 going by the number of views you have so far, clearly there are a lot of people, with something wrong with them 😉
Absolutely nothing wrong with you or anyone who is interested in graveyards. They are very interesting.
I heard that his dogs are buried in that plot,
I noticed that you went by it, Sinead.
Your find a lot of people are fascinating with them 🌹🙏
Theres nothing wrong with you.

Well done Sinead, a really informative and respectful tour. I did a tour there with a group of students from the Open University nearly 30 years ago. One of the students freaked out when a dove flew out of the mausoleums and brushed through her hair. The cemetery is a fantastic place to visit.

@@biddylisduff What if the family of someone who is buried there no longer exists? Who would pay that fee? That's not right.
Its done in the phillipines and in the US (new orleans ) i know thats praticed there !
@@dianamanwaring4794 If the fees are not paid, for one reason or another, the plaques or headstones are removed and stored elsewhere. They do not dig up the bodies, but the graves may be made deeper with the original inhabitant going further down and someone new buried on top.

The caretakers of the graveyards behind my house were totally unaware of two other graveyards way at the top of the hill back there in the woods 😢
Or how even in death there are separation fences and walls between the Irish cemetery, the Russian, the German Catholic and just plain forgotten Souls with no one to visit when all family then too pass on and names wear away.

You might want to check out our New Orleans channel. We have a couple of videos of interesting cemeteries there. Here's one ruclips.net/video/GbuAJV-_LmU/видео.html.
Sinead so gald I discovered you and your amazing channel ~ I am a funeral celebrant so I have a thing for cemeteries and graveyards as they are part of my life....... Heard about this cemetery many years ago and though I never visited now I have ! Thank you and blessing to you sister x
Fantastic. So informative and entertaining, I love this channel and Sinead is such a brilliant guide that she leaves you feeling subconsciously that you were there with her.
Wow, thank you!
Great tour. I am also fascinated by the many stories of the deceased. I then immerse myself in a completely different world of my own. I can't really explain what's happening to me to anyone, I just know that most other people don't feel the same way.
Loved this and found it very interesting. Seems like a very peaceful place but I bet it would be pretty creepy looking at night! Thanks Sinead for another great tour.
Sinead, you had me at Buffy the vampire slayer! Like you, I love anything dark and gothic like vampires. I love your tours but this is gem. Felt like I was on an adventure with my bestie! Thank you!
Our pleasure for sure.
Absolutely so glad I found your virtual tours. Graveyard tours are my absolute favourites. I have so much respect for you after paying your respects to George Michael in private and not filming it. If I ever make it over the pond all of you would be my choice for tour guides.
It’s a wonderful place Heather
Hope to see you in the future

In all my years living in London, I have never visited Highgate Cemetery. It's on the list! My brother found a grave there that the people looking after it didn't know was there - Adam Worth, the famous Victorian criminal. Great Vid!
Thank you for that addition.
I am SO glad I found you, Sinead. Your marvelous!!! Thank you. Excellent tour
We are glad you found us!
Dear Sinead, I wondered if you would get around to visiting Highgate cemetery. I've never been there but was hoping one day you would do a tour here. What an amazing place and thank you for the fab video. As usual, full of interest and information . Enjoyed every minute x

My mum used to say it’s not the dead that hurt you, it’s the living. So true. Lovely interesting walk with you through Highgate, thank you
