One of the Magnificent Seven, and now a designated nature reserve, Tower Hamlets Cemetery rests in the East End of London. The burial place of Jack the Ripper's primary investigator, the Cemetery is also the final resting place of some of Victorian London's biggest names, as well as it's poorest citizens.
Come with Sinead on this Halloween adventure to explore London's most beautiful cemetery. Learn the story of the body snatchers (or resurrection men), find out what happened when London was filled beyond capacity not just with the living but also with the dead, and visit the graves of those lost in the Bethnal Green Tube Disaster. This East End London Cemetery is filled with stories as well as beautiful views so join Free Tours by Foot as we visit Tower Hamlets Cemetery.

I've always admired the connection of the British people with the dead, especially in the Victorian era... Look how beautiful the cemeteries are, with benches, people walking quietly or walking their dogs, I've seen some people go out to the cemetery to read a book in a quiet place... Cemeteries are like parks, there, full of history and mystery... Nothing dark, nothing gloomy, nothing macabre... Just lovely ❤
These people are English mostly..🏴👈🏻
Same me too I love the victorian era
As a child we as a family would go to the cemetery every Sunday after dinner. We would take flowers to our relatives graves and learn history of our ancestors. We we need to appreciate all these people gave us as they lived and how they died and learn from them. These places honor people and are very peaceful to me. We now do this with the kids to teach them a measure of love and respect for those who came before.
I've always found walking through cemeteries to be very calming and peaceful, even as a kid. Thank you for this informative walk, Sinead!
Glad you enjoyed it, Amanda!
I love how English cemeteries are often used as nature preserves & the greenery allowed to grow naturally - as if reminding us that we all return to the earth. So much more preferable to the overly manicured memorial parks here in the US (with the exception of a few historic cemeteries such as those in New Orleans). American cemeteries seem so sterile & without character, especially when compared to those in Europe. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
You are most welcome!
It depends on the cemetery actually... mostly the historic and old graveyards are often allowed to go all or partially to nature, a lot of the active ones are far more maintained and uniform
Used to go there with my school, always lived near by and still do. Me and my mates used to walk through at night scaring each other. My nan lives close by and told me a little while ago that her grandparents and my grandads father are in that cemetery.
An interesting family connection! Thank you for sharing with us.
I have watched a number of cemetery tours and you have shown the most respect Thank you Sinead
A pleasure lovely
Sinead
Thank you so much for the tour! That dog must have made you jump out of your skin lol. Fabulous video and looking forward to more spooky ones!
I love wandering around old graveyards. It's great to learn a bit about some of the residents. Thank you for your tours!
I finally got to do a tour with Sinead on Wednesday and it was a highlight of my few days in London; especially feeding the parakeets in St James' Park. Thanks, Sinead. Already planning my next visit and another FTBF tour is definitely going to be on my itinerary :)
You were an absolute pleasure x
Sinead
I walk my dog in this cemetery and I love it.. it is so beautiful. I am sorry to correct you Sinead but the barnardos memorial is actually the bird statue a little bit past the Westwood memorial on the right hand side, it was only erected about 7 years ago . There is an inscription on it dedicated to the Barnardo children.
Thanks for the info :)
Ever since I was young, I find cemeteries a really relaxing and enjoyable place. Nothing scary about it.
My grandparents are both buried here never been by told about this maybe one day as they lived in the east end of London
Rees Ralph Llewelyn is buried there but a lesser known fact is that Charles Letchmere (the man who found Polly Nichols) is also buried there!
and belived to be the ripper altho never officially investigated as he gave the name cross
Yay Sinead! Was hoping we’d get another graveyard tour by you for this Halloween 😊
We live to please!
Your hair looks fabulous, Sinead! I can't wait to see what town you take us to outside of London!
Also i think i said before about the Bethnal Green tube disaster , my late father vividly always had a nightmare when he was a child of holding his mums hand while running down stairs to the underground then remembers his mum tripping over and them being crushed to death , The thing is my late father was born 24th of July 1949 six years after that disaster happened , he did undergo hypnosis later in life and he recalls being in a void under hypnosis until he was reborn , so weird but a true story.
I love these tours because you learn so much about a places history . I will neer be able to travel to these places (London etc.) so this gives me a better look at the world right from my own home :) Thank you
We are so glad to help you visit virtually :)
Missed u. Enjoy your tours the most.
Every headstone represents a birth, life and a death, think of all the lost backstories and family histories. Sinead, not to sound weird but the Tower Hamlets Cemtery is so peaceful and beautiful. I really appreciate the respect you show whenever you're in a Church or Cemetery. A while my family and I went to Forest Lawn Cemtery in Glendale to visit the grave site of Walt Disney and Clayton Moore -- "The Lone Ranger." Take care....

Lovely thoughts, thank you for sharing!
Thank you Sinead for this lovely tour, such a tranquil place and moving history. 💕🇦🇺
You’re a brave lady! Thanks for this 🙂
You are most welcome, Sandy :)
With winter approaching -- eagerly awaiting your simply lovely Christmas-in-London vids, Sinead!
Hi Sinead, I have loved looking round cemeteries since I was a little girl, morbid to some but fascinating to me, especially in the UK because of how far they go back. Thank you for taking us with you and much love from New Zealand x
Cemeterys are one of my favourite places to see ,so much history.

You are most welcome! Something special coming next week ;)
great commentary sinead thanks
You are welcome, as always, John!
Fantastic 👌🏻 well done Sinead 👏🏻👏🏻❤️
sinead. Your graveyard tours, really are the best viewing!! You are so passionate when you do your graveyard tours.❤
Love the cemetery tours thank you. It amazes me how over grown they are there. In the USA they are so mowed here. And some places you can’t have headstones that aren’t flat, so they can mow over them.
Glad you enjoyed it - interesting to hear about the way things work over there!
Hi Sinead, another great video. Hope your boss gives you a raise. 😄 Hard to believe that a huge cemetery would be in London.
Thank you Sinead for another wonderful tour.
Our pleasure, as always!
What an amazing place 😊
Fantastic video! I love visiting cemeteries and this one is beautiful. Just a note -- Hare didn't spend the rest of his life in prison. He was released and the authorities eventually had to help him get out of the area (people wanted him dead, obviously) and he went into hiding. Some say he went to Ireland, but there's no proof of that.
Thanks for the extra info!
Thank you sinead for another excellent video sending lots of love from Dublin ❤
The weather is *finally* catching up with autumn. Getting settled in for the spooky season.
Husband Kenneth and I will be on a plane in a couple days to London. We are absolutely chuffed about the Ripper tour-cannot wait to say our proper hellos. 😊
Thank you again for another great tour on one of the Magnificent Seven.
-Jen
We look forward to seeing you! Have a safe journey :)
When the distortion occurred, I immediately thought that it was spirit affecting the sound. Its to be expected in a cemetery. Thanks for another great video Sinead xx
Sinead actually had to film this twice because the volume the first time kept playing up!
Another brilliant tour Sinead , also here is a fact you may not know , The reason a lot of Victorian gravestones were jet black was due to the amount of smog pollution in London at the time from all the Coal burning that used to go on in that era , imagine how bad their lungs must have been ? and we think today the co2 from cars is bad lol
You look so rock & roll!
Brilliant video x
Glad you enjoyed it, Rachel!
Great tour. Looking forward to the Halloween video
Thank you so much. Great history and I love the humane presentation that you always bring. 😊
My great great grandparents are buried there somewhere. 1841 to 1856 from memory. I have been to walk through this amazing park I’m 1997 on a trip from Australia🦘🦘🇦🇺🇦🇺

I really enjoy your tours. The cemeteries and graveyards are history, and they are beautiful. Plz show us more and inform us of the historical nature of the long dead.☠️
Glad you're enjoying them, Jillian!
Hi Sinead, thank you for another Cemetery tour and history behind some of the graves. very interesting. yes would like more of these.
how about the graves behind some big churches? I see lots of history there too. been to some many many years ago, I forgot if we needed permission to enter.
I do find find walking along the gravesite and reading the inscription interesting too. maybe you do that in coming future.
thanks again Sinead and all the best to you and your tours.
Thanks for another great video❤
Yesss the Halloween vids begin 😊 Ab fab Sinead ❤
😂❤❤Keep outgoing yourself my Lovely 😂
Sinead my Wife's Grandad Enoch Samuel Seth sadly drowned in South West India Dock Poplar on the 1st April 1940. Enoch was aged just 52 yo. He was a seaman on the SS Egyptian Prince
and fell into the water after a night out, whilst walking back to the ship. I understand it was a 'pea souper' and although people heard his cries for help they couldn't see him. His body came back to the surface a couple of months after his drowning and he was eventually buried in a Tower Hamlets Cemetery in a public unconsecrated grave (P2352) This information was kindly provided by researchers, presumably friends of Tower Hamlets Cemetery. Our family live in Manchester and we've never had the opportunity to visit Samuel's grave. Thanks for doing the walk and providing the commentary. It means a lot.
Oh wow. We are so glad we could share this with you, Anthony. Thank you for telling us about your family connection.
Fabulous Sinead

Glad we could bring you a bit of a break!
Great video! Thank you for sharing ❤
You are most welcome!
This is going to sound strange, but I love the Cemetery videos. When it's a nice day I will take an afternoon walk at our local Cemetery where my brother in-love (my husband's younger brother) is buried, I'll have my earbuds in and the first song that I hear is one that he and I both loved by Def Leppard it will ALWAYS comes on . No matter what time of day I go walking. So yeah, someone was trying to get your attention.
We love this!
I love your videos so much, I don’t comment often enough. I could wander this cemetery for days, thank you for sharing. ❤️

This is a very interesting cemetery and has many graves and a lot of background info. Good job Sinead.
Glad you enjoyed it!
the story about the Tube station and its tragedy is sad. yes, that would make it haunted.
I really enjoy your videos Sinead. So relaxing and enjoyable to listen to. I’m glad you did this cemetery as the others get so much more publicity and I haven’t seen this one.
So glad we could show you something new :)
