That is ridiculous, I've decided I don't need heat

Ya. It is a tedious job, but not too hard. It will take me two days, but this video goes through every step. Thank you for that. I am replacing the core with an aluminum one.

    I just did this.
No need to pull the seats, centre console, subwoofer, or remove steering column from dash.
I didn’t unplug hardly any wires on drivers side. Just take 1 bolt out of steering shaft and unclip shift cable. I left one bolt at the door opening in but loose.
I swung the dash from the passenger side like it was hinged and laid it on the centre console with a blanket.
More than enough room to remove the hvac box.
Had it out on the floor in less than an hour.
2012 Denali hd with exact same interior.

Excellent video, details including bolt sizes where given. I was impressed rating a 5 . Thank you Jim

You explained everything that needed to be done. I had no idea how involved this job is to do. Blows my mind! Great great video.

with the whole air box out it seems like a good time to do the Cabin Air Filter retrofit also, since GM decided to not include it in these models.

Not one mention if I do something out of sequence I might set the air bags off sending me to the moon. Excellent video!

Awesome video! Thank you many times over! I watched this several times to guide me through my 2011 GMC Seirra it was a little intimidating but it turned out to be a success. Dealership wanted $ 1,300 for labor alone! I spent &150.00 for heater core and anti freeze

Legend has it that some time ago a Gm engineer walked in on his wife and a mechanic. and from that day forward he vowed revenge!

Great design! Years of tech advancement and we still get vehicles that need to be completely ripped apart to fix a simple but important part. Labor is surely $1000 or more at a shop and very few are equipped at home to do This repair especially since it involves AC refrigerant removal. Frustrating. Good video though.

"Professional grade engineering" yet we couldn't allow the heater core to come out through the fire wall. Hell they didn't even make the cabin air filter removeable without cutting an access slot and buying an aftermarket cover plate not even offered by GM.

They should put an access panel to the heater on the firewall. Too many steps for one small piece.

They need to make something we can just put in the engine to bypass all of this dash removal. and plug the heater core in a spot in the engine bay.

This is why the American auto industry in decline. My last GM was a '90 Chevy Lumina, what a piece crap, pre designed obsolescence. Almost any repair required a special tool. Took it in for a recall for supposedly corroded steering column bolts and the sabotaged the vehicle by pulling on the sparkplug wires of #1 and 3 cylinders and breaking the connections to plug clips. That crooked dealership went out of business when GM got bailed out by the government. Hope this time the government lets them die.

Please, if anyone is attempting to do it on a 2500 Duramax, do not! Pay to get it done. After trying for days to do it, I would gladly fork over the $2k for it to get done at a shop.

What technology the average person had access to or knowledge of is the tip of the iceberg. It us TOTALLY possible to build a good, solid piece of equipment, but not anywhere near the specs that the government or military would require. It isn’t financially feasible… for obvious reasons ⬆️
