Cocteau twins truly are the Goat of all shoegaze. They created a whole music genre! I know Lush and flock of seagulls and many others were lurking around but Cocteau twins will always be the one and only for me …❤
I spent the 80's listening to The Cocteau Twins and The Smith's ... and then The Sunday's continued that in the 90's ... there were others of course but those are the 3 bands i remember most from my teenage yrs ... what have kids got today, computer generated crap, yeah we had it so good.
this is actually the first song I heard from CT. It blew my mind and was the starting point to get to know more about Cocteau Twins. Thanks for posting this!
My very first one was Musette and Drums through the Spotify algorithm, I was totally digging it but didn’t dive deeper. Shortly after I found out Elizabeth also sings Song to the Siren, which astounded me, such an angelic voice in two entirely different settings. Around the same time, a friend who was more into the gothic, Garlands-era stuff happened to send me a message saying I would love this song called Fotzepolitic; he knows I’m more into ethereal/dreamy pop and I loved it! Started the whole album and WOW! There it was, right away, so soft yet so visceral. Cherry Coloured Funk has got to be among my favourite songs ever. I believe it’s because the song, and Cocteau Twins in general, evoke a special kind of sensitivity and otherworldlyness that I had not experienced before to that extent, truly an echelon of its own.
I took a trip to Iceland many many years ago. There was this thick fog the whole time I was there. But the place was beautiful in spite of the fog; it had a lot of placid serenity to it. Iceland has some otherworldly sorts of landscapes to it. The landscape there reminds me of the soundscape here. Or it is the other way around? Either way it's great. Thanks for putting this on mate!
wow.. the gauzy haziness of the visuals, really fits the woozy mood of this song, nice intercutting of images as well. terrific mix of the song also, VERY hypnotic layering of sounds....
Cocteau Twins.....the Greatest Band of all time and beyond!! shum65,I thank you for being one of the greatest witnesses to their "presence" and sound which reverberates far beyond the perception of earth into the Kingdom of Heaven giving "US" a sense of BLISS unparalleled by any other musical group
High on life and a recently discovered synthetic mind altering substance I train surfed the northbound Dan Ryan redline train at north and clyborn ave through the tunnel bumping this in my Sony walkman, fall 1995.... You nailed it!
Simply Divine ♥️ just send me out of this world while I'm alive and when I go...Still being cried and laughed at from behind me..." Mark Clifford Remix
this song is an audio orgasm, the cocteau twins are a reflection of the music of the spheres and represent the sound of creation very well.Shum 65,I thank you for being who you are in bringing us the vibration of harmony and joy and heaven on earth as you perceive it .Cocteau Twins For All Eternity !!!!
You know I'm watching out for another blizzard! - I can't wait for winter, and hope we actually have one with accumulating snow in my part of North America - it was so common when I was a little kid, but by 25 years from present we'll have palm trees in Philadelphia, the way things are changing climate-wise. Nevertheless, my Mom told me she heard forecasted we're in for a snowy winter. I hope she got it right! For me, there's something extra-magical about Cocteaus in the falling snow!
I'm enjoying this experience very much, shum, with my little kitty, Cosma Shiva, on my lap looking at the screen, and purring in appreciation. This remix soothes my soul. The original version is one of my all time fave songs, and the re-working is the only track I really liked off of Otherness, except for Violaine maybe. Anyway, it's brought me back to a very cold winter night, after I had just picked up the EP, and some guy at nearby bar, and we listened over and over during a blizzard.
I hope someday, I will make music that invokes comments lime this...was truly inspired by them back in the early 90's. My band even did a cover of Crushed...

"Is there anything To be serious about beyond this otherness That gets included in the most ordinary Forms of daily activity, changing everything Slightly and profoundly...." John Ashbery
Oh, you really are going after all of my favorites, aren't you ^-^ Now, the HoLV version of CCF would have been fantastic enough, but doing the otherness version??? That's a pure gift, my friend, and I thank you. As usual, I'm in awe of your stylistic interpretation. Here's hoping you turn your sights on Need-Fire, or Mud and Dark! Or... well, really, anything at all. Just keep at it!
This is the music that should play immediately after something horribly tragic happens in a series as inconsequential as _Doctors_ over the end credits... while the viewers sit there in shock or are actually crying.
Finally, I am obviously not the only person who is enjoying shum's efforts to interpret Cocteau Twins songs. OK, ENOUGH of this rant, already! I tend to only go on so when I'm writing my Representatives, Congressmen, or the media about the great decline of my country over the past 7+ years, and try to redirect my anger by contributing in a positive way to putting the States back on the path of becoming a true democracy, even as we slide further (and all too quickly) towards corporatism.
First of all, lakeakero, since you've taken the time to peruse my favorites, you should see they are overwhelmingly official vids and live performances, other than some political pieces and comedy sketches. That said, over the past few weeks, I have been playing most of shum's vids over and over. I see them as a continuum, so maybe any repetition of images/photos is intentional? Regardless, I have been enjoying them a great deal, and have been rating them accordingly.
Shum is evidently much more a gentleman than I. I find you sour, bitter, almost spiteful, and although you may not have cataracts, you are indeed short-sited.
This is the sound version of what it's like to hug someone you love
😁
I guess by hug, you mean...uh, how do I say?..."unite".
👌✌
...and then lay with them, spoon'm n'then play with there hair and smooth the hair as they fall asleep...🤔
something I will never feel

Seefeel were big fans of the Cocteau Twins so this remix was a labour of love.

Love this version more than original one.
this version speaks to e of the immediate aftermath of a great loss,
As difficult as it is to compare the original with this version, this one is So sublime, it is almost a perfect counterpoint.

It was actually played in the BBC drama murdered by my father a few years ago
It's like sex. In space!
Sublimest sounds rendered by humans

Ich vermisse cocteau....😢
as Prince enters the Angelic Realms, just for a few minutes, imagine this playing as the Masters and ancients welcome his soul..

Yes. Cocteau Twins were one of his favorite bands :)
T Cob Yes! As many ppl have no idea.
It was good that they got more experimental sometimes
Came here from Joys vid

Where did u get to the audio samples for this??
This was an official remix by Mark Clifford (from a band called Seefeel). Think it was released around 1995?

*sigh* if only her voice could have found a decent band to be in.

Oh dear! Looks like Granny's got cataracts ! Another sausage off the conveyor belt, ay Shum, old fruit.
