Don't mind me, just making useful shortcuts for myself. Great tutorial by the way! You managed to explain many important features in a very short time. 12:58 - Modifying stroke ends 16:57 - Cleanup of strokes 18:52 - Uniting all pieces after cleanup 20:41 - Cleanup of coloring 23:46 - Coloring on multiple pieces 25:37 - Silhouette
Jason, I'm enjoying your Tutorial A LOTTT!~ Thank you~ BTW, when you are done with "Sketching Lines" and moving on to Inking, in all your Tutorial Vids you tend to "Skip" Explaining Which Tool you are using as you proceed. and the process gets speedier, then I lose following you, as I lost which tool to select.. Please mention what "Key" and "What Tool" you are using, and possibly add explanation about "to Achieve What Result". That will be AWESOMELY Even More Helpful~!!! Thank you a MILLION!~ ^,^
Hi Jason, Just wanna thank you for the videos. While I'm still learning a ton with Illustrator, your videos helped me to make Illustrator less daunting. Appreciate it! More videos please.
Hey loving these tutorials- only been watching from today - quick maybe dumb question but I didn’t understand how suddenly after you clicked save the lines were nice and thick when they weren’t previously- like think time stamp was 11:37 then 11:42 it’s thick :( please???
Added Cartoon Brushes during that step, I have a 2nd Snail Video that will go through the Adding and Editing Brushes Steps. ruclips.net/video/nQiY6K7lIBw/видео.html
I love your videos and that you actually comment to the questions. But for a perfectionist like me it is sometimes hard to follow. Like when you switch layers, sometimes it isn't clear in what layer you are. And the sound is behind on what you are doing. So it took me like 3 or 4 hours to make this. But I do love them so keep up the good work.
Thanks for letting me know Ashley as I am continually trying to improve on my tutorials for people who are going through them- with the layers would it be easier to follow if I zoom in on the layers panel before minimizing it?
Yes, same exact problem with me. I think there is a way with ScreenFlow on mac to automatic zoom in while recording or Camtasia for windows. It would be great if we could see exactly every little step as some of us would like Also if you could put in the hotkeys on screen the moment you use them
I am new to Adobe Illustrator. I am a little confuse how you did the cut and the line curving/fitting in section between approximately 2:15 and 4:09. What did you click for those. I am also having problems cutting efficiently.
So the Scissor Tool is what I am using to cut the segment for the circle. Hover over the segment (not the anchors) and click. You will notice a new anchor where you clicked. In order to delete the segment you need to remember 2 points using the scissor. (otherwise the whole shape will delete) So click 2x on the segment and then select the part you want to delete. click delete. Is that what you were having issues with cutting? or are you on to the knife tool and shadows?
how did you get from the strokes to the "drawn" look vector? i.e. around 11:40 it seems like you did not explain/show how to get to the finished illustration
Added Cartoon Brushes. We cover it in many of the other Tutorials, if you are looking for a beginner tutorial with brushes the Pug Challenge is a nice place to start: ruclips.net/video/EjdpYzLG2js/видео.html
Hi Jason, I've just found out about your channel. I'm new new to adobe illustrator and also a beginner into cartoon illustration.. Can you please give me some recommendations.. Which video should I start from? And what do you think about the wacom one tablet? Cheers mate
I would start with one of our challenge series. It is a little longer of a format which will go slower if you are new. For tablets, I use an old Intous 3 from 2006- I assume most of my viewers and students won't have expensive Cintiqs as a beginner. So the One series looks like an updated version. You can buy the one I have for 80$ just to see if you like drawing with the tablet. I would avoid buying anyone that is too small.
Hey I love the tutorial, but I've got big issues with the coloring part... I've made the different line and made sure that there should be no line that isn't connected to another (crossed, there are many lone lines), but if I want to make a live paint he sets all my edges back that all lines have the same width. How can I fix that?
the strokes haven't been expanded if they are changing back. You will get a pop up when you click on live paint that says you will lose attributes, live effects and brushes
Anchor Point Tool (in sub menu of the pen tool- the cursor will change icons when hovered over path) in earlier versions this might not work- look for curve path or an icon that looks like an old phone/finger pushing path
The Anchor Point Tool (Shift C) can drag out a curve. (On earlier versions there might be a curve (path) tool look for an icon that looks like an old phone. ) You can slightly see the icon in the video when the cursor hovers over the path.
Hey Ryan- let’s go through a few options. 1. Double check layer below is hidden. 2 Are all lines expanded fully (expand appearance and expanded) Lines in stroke form will move along with the eraser. 3. Remember to ungroup after you divide. Everything will deleting if it is grouped
Fantastic tutorial and i've purchased the brushes collection. I'm so happy to have them. Thank you!
You are so welcome! Did you see that I added the Folder to the Brushes?
this looks fun! wanna try this after work hour, thank you!

Great Tutorial! Merging what I learned here with what I learned with My Formal Education and Past Experiences!
Awesome video! Thank you for taking it one step further than the last one. I'm loving these! Keep up the great work.
Your tutorials are fantastic. So clear and helpful. Thanks for making them

..very helpful video! do you have any tutorials on how to cartoonize your photo using illustrator??
I currently do not have one- are you thinking more cartoon or more of a standard portrait?
..ohhhh okey i love all your tutorials btw more cartoon. :)
I had multiple people ask for cartoon/vectorize portraits so I will be recording some this week
..OMG!!! cant wait!! you are awesome!! :D :D god bless you
How can you edit the lines after you expand to use live paint tool?
are you able to have two screens a once, like in paintoolsai?

Jason Secrest. Awesome, thank you very much
Hey,
How can i do the white outline around the artwork?
Add white stroke on outside of a background shape or do an offset path on the same background shape.
this is just the tutorial i very much needed, thank you

Duplicate line layer. Expand appearance and expand your lines. (Make sure you’re done editing and there isn’t any overlapping) then do the live paint.
@@JasonSecrest doesnt seem to work, cant find the problem

Hi! how did you make that curve by dragging the path without anchor point on 8:36?
The Anchor Point Tool (Shift C) can drag out a curve. (On earlier versions there might be a curve (path) tool look for an icon that looks like an old phone. ) You can slightly see the icon in the video when the cursor hovers over the path.
@@JasonSecrest many thanks!!
minute 11:39 - 11:43 how you do that with that stroke ?
Added on our cartoon brushes. This is the same process as the Pug Challenge Line Variation Step: ruclips.net/video/EjdpYzLG2js/видео.html
I am having trouble doing the cleanup. I followed along but the areas will not delete. I tried the eraser and the divide option.
@@JasonSecrest Thank you for the help. I did not have the layer below hidden.
Sir..a Request...Please Draw one Simple Young boy and a Girl standing aside
how you put the sketch drawing?
Are you asking about placing in a sketch? File - Place. We do a how to create template layer in the beginner guide
What do you do if you have NO sketch? :p
I don't understand... How did you add thicness to the lines? You didn't show that. :/
