This is probably the best explination for settings on this model I have ever seen. I've spent too long with jumped up quality in my videos. Thank you iftibashir, this was a major help.
do you have your Hero 5 just turn off when ever it wants....(even when the preferences are set for NEVER!) Love Super wide! Don't understand why people think the fish eye is so bad. I bought the Hero 5 for voice recognition, love it.
No, my camera doesn't turn off by itself.... Super wide is great for larger open spaces, I just prefer the more natural look so it blends in nicely with footage I may have taken with other cameras ;o)
hello and sorry they gave me a 5..even if old I find it fabulous ... I would like to ask you for the slow motion, is there a button on purpose? I don't understand how to do it .. thanks and best wishes
Choose your resolution (1090p would be ideal) and set the frame rate to the highest setting possible. Then capture your video as normal. In your editor you will be able to slow the footage down to your timeline default (normally 25/30fps) and the footing will appear slow, yet smooth.
Thanks Ifti another great review and tips..this will come in handy when I get my GoPro Hero 5 next month,I am planning on using my Hero 5 and Hero 4 Silver while I am out fishing and running the boat up and down the Lake.I do how ever have a question regarding the FOV would you say I be better using the wide angle vs the Linear mode to get the whole view of the whole Lake while I am moving up and down the Lake? By the way since you made this video on what preferred settings you use on the Hero 5 do you have any preferred settings for the Hero 4 Silver?
For a wide open space I would use the wide setting as the fish-eye won't be as noticeable. Linear is good for smaller spaces where the curvature on both edges of the frame looks too 'unnatural'.
I like most of your videos and you generally give good advice, but in this one you advise setting the GoPro camera to 60 frames per second (NTSC standard). This is not good advice for the following reasons: Firstly, footage from it will not integrate with standard PAL video, without movements looking jerky (generally every 5th frame has to be repeated). Secondly, when in countries that use 50Hz mains frequency (PAL regions) your footage will flicker under artificial lights. A frame rate of 60Hz is fine for non-PAL regions such as the USA, Burma, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines. Most of the rest of the planet uses 50Hz and the PAL system.
alderny I bet if you looked at his RUclips analytics, most of his views are from the US. I'd bet money on this. And if you care to make money on RUclips, you'd rather make the big crowd more happy.
in mine, i have 2.7k selected but fastest frame rate i can choose is 50, not 60 that you show here. Why is that? mine i updated to version 2.0, first update out of the box.
Craig Lee - I'm in the UK but always use NTSC. It makes no difference when editing or playing back on a computer. The only time you'd need PAL is if you connect directly to a PAL TV for example.
Oh really? wow, i thought i needed pal coz i use pal in premiere pro cs6 and it would flicker somewhat on playback. Ok, i guess ill do some playing around. Thanks for the heads up, ill try it cheers

There is no such thing as best setting. The best setting will depends of various elements being lighting one of the mains. Too much light or low light is both bad. If you don't understand, shutter speed, f stop , iso etc check it on line or just keep it in auto. Gopro is really good at it. This is not a full frame camera with replaceable lens. Or at least shutter and iso should be your main search to do a setting on the spot.

Glad it helped!
I did my radiator last year with the help of your video. Wouldn't have been able to do it without your great vid. Thank you soooo much!!
Thank you. Quite literally the clearest and also possibly the best explanation to the settings I’ve found yet on here and really helps a ton.
Glad you found it useful!
Should have included test shots of why it's your preferred video shooting mode. But otherwise, good video. 👍🏼
thats what I have shot in as well! Its such a smart camera that I feel if i change settings too much, I end up with worse footage.
Will you do a camera/photo setting as well?
I second this!
wich setting i need when i ride motorcycle ?!
Thank you for your video. I just got my Hero5 Black this morning. Will start with the settings you suggest.
Thank you very much! I needed a "crash course" in the settings to do an abandon building walk-around, turned out great.
Glad it helped!
whats The Name of Your SD Card And how MAny Gig is that? Thx advance
Can go pro 5 black do vertical videos?
Afraid not.
How can I turn volume toggle?
Thanks for this! I'm using for motorbike and I'm struggling to get right settings. I'll give this a bash next time out and send ya link! Thanks again
While shooting can we zoom in this camera
Appreciate these settings for a noob like me
I found for video Capture on the Gopro Hero 5 session standard settings are fine 30fp , but I use LVC Media player to capture video.

there' been problems, according to the gopro forum.
How many gb did you put in your go pro to have such a long hour of recording time?
Why 30fps and not 60fps
why does it transfer the videos in sections to the comp i recorded a baseball game and i wanted to be a continuous video
File format limitation. Im afraid you cant get round this - you need to put the clips together in an editor and export as one large video.

Would you recommend higher frame rate for action videos. 2.7k at 60fps?
Yes that would be perfect
The audio quality is my biggest issue. I think my problem is because of the case covering up the speaker and microphones.
Can you tell me the capacity of the microSD card used on this Gopro ? for an 8hr video it must be more than 128gb!
See here - ruclips.net/video/20_jYaAGt6A/видео.html
I don't have any of that settings on my hero 5 black. Highest is 1080 and i can't choice linear, just narrow. Same?
No, I have all the settings shown in the video. If you don't have anything higher then 1080 then you do not have a Hero 5 Black!
you might have a hero 2018 edition and not the hero 5 black. but the hero 2018 ed. can be hacked to hero 5 black. google it

I use this : ruclips.net/video/20_jYaAGt6A/видео.html
Thanks!
there is no problems with it at all ? it would make my life much easier recording wise all i typically see is 128gb cards
Nope - its the card I use all the time in my Hero 6 now - no problems at all.
