    18:27 wow.. You absolutely nail those scary runs..😍😍😍 They’re just flawless😲😲👏👍
    The whole performance is so musical and beautifully interpreted. I usually find this piece quite boring and lifeless to listen to (except for those exciting runs) however, because of the myriad of nuances and various musical intentions you gave to the piece. Wowww.. every musical phrase becomes alive...I so enjoy it and keep listening to the whole thing.
    I love it Emily!! So so good🥰🥰
    I think you can do a video on how to play this piece and teach us the fingerings
    for those scary runs LOL😂😂😂
    Ps. Well down to the tenor and the pianist as well❤️❤️❤️
    Thank you immensely for sharing 🙏

    Большая редкость встретить музыкантов так мастерски владеющими пиано.Ансамбль великолепен,живое,естественное музицирование на первый взгляд,но всё подчинено строгим канонам фразирования,каждая интонация практически совершенна.Пианист великий талант

      Hi Elena, thanks for your comment. I Google-translated your message and it came out as:
      "It is a rarity to meet musicians with such masterful pianos. The ensemble is magnificent, lively, natural playing at first glance, but everything is subject to strict canons of phrasing, every intonation is almost perfect. The pianist is a great talent."
      Thank you so very much for your kind words - and for watching our video! 🙏

I first picked up the flute at age 13 and now 28 have not finished my degree in music due to finance and I live in LA which life here is difficult. Your recording of the Mozart changed my life. Thank you so much!!!

    Lovely performance! 😍🤗
    Off-topic but may I ask for help/opinion? ( I know there may not be an answer to this other than that my technique just sucks but...)
    I play in a band and can never hear myself even when I have solos. I'm already pushing myself to the limit playing f or ff and have a mic beside me, the conductor is still asking for more. And then I start to crack notes. Pitch is the other thing I'm constantly very anxious about because I can't hear properly whether some notes are too flat or high.
    To make matters worse I need to use beta-blockers to prevent my hands from shaking by nervousness when performing but that causes me to get out of breath more easily and affects how loud I can play.
    Listening to professional orchestras, flute solos always sound so beautiful and you can hear them! I feel like drowning. How can I play in tune and with a loud healthy full sound in these circumstances? All this just makes me want to quit. 😞

    • @cattymionepotter1939
      @cattymionepotter1939 3 года назад

      That sounds mostly like a psychological issue, because you also say how terrified you are. Don't worry, many musicians have these problems, you're not alone. Maybe try some breathing exercices. Don't focus on "getting them right", "doing your best" or judging yourself, just feel how your body feels that day. Try to take some deep, controlled breaths and stay relaxed. Best would be to do this before and after every practice session so it becomes your routine and you can stay this relaxed when you have rehearsal or concerts coming up.
      And for your sound development: It takes time to have such a good and full sound as the flutists in pro orchestras have to have. So don't pressure yourself to hard. Ater the breathing exercice, dive into a long tone exercice, e. g. going chromatically down from b, two long notes a time and making them sound really beautiful and sending them a long way away from you. Really explore your tone, be curious. Try staying really open, mouth open, back up (standing straight, but not forced) and practice to support your sound with your diaphragm (don't know how to spell this haha). Other than that, it might help to sometimes look out of a window and imagining trying to "reach" people far away from you so you "send" your sound further.
      For intonation: When you practice on your own, get to know the tricky notes or combinations, such as the c# often being to sharp or parts in piano are often too flat. Then adjust your embouchure etc. accordingly (if you want to, I can give you tips on that as well). When you have a louder sound in orchestra you'll be able to hear yourself as well and can adjust your intonation then on the spot. Having a good support is for intonation important as well :)
      And one last thing - don't take comments of your conductur too personally or feel offended - he is just trying to help you and that might be a little place that you still have to work on. But you'll get there, I'm sure! Tell me if you have any questions or just how your practice is going. Please don't quit because of this issue, I know it is frustrating, but you can work on it!

    • @EmilyBeynonflute
      @EmilyBeynonflute  3 года назад +4

      Hi Kaisa, PLEASE don't quit! You love the flute and playing music, so hang in there!! My first reaction would be, find another band! 🤣 Because if your fellow musicians can't hear you if you have an important line, then they're playing too loud! 😂 Balance is a two-way steet!! But maybe it also helps to remind you that when playing at your loudest, your body should be at its most relaxed. Try not to press your lips with the force - the air needs space to come out! Keep your shoulders, throat, jaw, lips... all as RELAXED as possible - the work comes from the air, supported by your abdominals! Do you relax THEM fully to let the air in? And do you blow from deep down (below your belly button?) Let me know how you get on! 🤞

      @@EmilyBeynonflute Thank you so much for your advice, Emily! I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't paid a lot of attention to my breathing. Furthermore, I've come to realize that I'm very tense, all parts of my body! I have practised with your videos about breathing and posture - thanks for those, they are tremendously helpful! I'll take this subject as my main focus point from now on.
      Apparently, other players CAN hear me judging by their comments, and I've asked people I know in the audience to record my parts, so I can listen to them from the audience's perspective. The mic does help, I can hear the flute, but I'm never satisfied with my playing. Maybe next time when we're able to meet together again I could open my mouth and ask others for some space when I need it.
