I sawed up about 1500 bf of white pine and red oak two years ago and started looking for ideas today. It never occurred to me to use them together. What a beautiful piece. I can only hope to match the craftsmanship. Thanks for the inspiration!
Everybody should know by now that you're an awesome videographer. Please don't forget that you're one of the best storytellers among makers on RUclips! Love the video anyway! Keep it up!
That could've been the color grade. It could've been red oak too. I thought I had grabbed a stick of white oak from my stack but I've been wrong before. It's definitely not Walnut hahaha
Lovely work, looks awesome! Watching this has inspired me to try something similar with some live edge Elm that has been sitting in my shed for ages! Super awesome, thanks for posting!
Very inspiring build, Will! Enjoyed the video. I really liked seeing the contrast of behind the scenes while you’re shooting the final photos and then the actual final photos.
Man, I love this little bench. And I seriously just want to take a few days vacation to have you teach me how to film and photograph. It's always amazing to see your final shots.
Don't take this the wrong way, but don't feel obligated to keep doing voice over. I love the stories you tell, but watching this I don't feel anything was lost. I'm not sure if it's because you did more visually to tell the story.. or if I just noticed more visually because I was more focused on it. Really got sucked into this one.
Awesome work Will the bench looks incredible. But I really really miss you telling the story or why you’re doing or not doing kind of things. Hey take care my friend.
That is a gorgeous bench Will!! That was one beast of a carbide tipped router bit you were using to flatten the slab! You should call this one halflapapalooza ;) Cheers!
Yep! That's the spoilboard surfacing bit from Amana. It was sent to me by Toolstoday.com for a video I did for them a while back. It's a beast and I like how you can replace the carbides.
I did a similar base for an activity table I built my toddler a couple years ago using angled Mortise and tenons. Thought I'd try something different on this one. I gotta say this is pretty stout. I sat on the bench when the pieces were just dry fit holding it together with spring clamps. Can't argue with the sliding compound dovetails but I'm pretty confident in the rigidity of this piece.
Just some pan head screws in wobbled out pilot holes. If the slab was wider I would have used "table top buttons". I think Andy Rawles did a video on them
I made these up on the fly. I think it was a 5⁰ splay. I made scale profile drawings on rolled out craft paper knowing I wanted final seat height at 16" and took measurements from the drawing. I could probably throw together some plans if there were enough interest
Beautiful! I would be more than proud to have something like that in my home, and I would be crazy proud to be able to make a bench that beautiful. Great job! By the way, I'm not too far from you. I'm in eastern Goochland County. Best wishes!
Thank you so much! It's actually for sale hahaha! That's not far at all. Let me know if you want to take a field trip some time and hang out in the shop.
Hi Will. Where did you order your branding iron from. I live in South Africa and I would like to order one for my projects with my logo online. Do you have any suggestions?
I got mine from Tinkir Workshop but there are many companies online that make them as well. I use a torch to heat mine up, but you can get ones with temperature controlled electric elements in them.
WOW, I am so glad youtube found this for me, Master Craftsman, Master Photographer, this presentation is just stunning.

The shot where the cam pivots to follow you carrying the slab. Pro times 💯
I love a no-talkie build video.
I’ve never been crazy about the live edge aesthetic but this bench is beautiful! Excellent photography as well!

Lovely design and turned out great.
love that frame and the grain in the slab, that is the reddest white oak I ever seen
That could've been the color grade. It could've been red oak too. I thought I had grabbed a stick of white oak from my stack but I've been wrong before. It's definitely not Walnut hahaha
possibly the grade, J might know, hopefully he sees your T. And your photog is nutz man, wish I still did it for some of the work I used to do.
It's a shame we won't get to see the beautiful red brown that top is going to age into shortly. One of the most underrated hardwoods for sure.
Beautiful bench, and naturally, the video was shot with excellence too.
Lovely work, looks awesome! Watching this has inspired me to try something similar with some live edge Elm that has been sitting in my shed for ages! Super awesome, thanks for posting!
Looks good will!
Lovely bench. Excellent work. Great video.
Thank you!
Very inspiring build, Will! Enjoyed the video. I really liked seeing the contrast of behind the scenes while you’re shooting the final photos and then the actual final photos.
The colour of the slab with the finish on was gorgeous. Lovely piece and beautifully shot. 👍
Nice bench, we just built some but with different legs. Thanks for the video!
Awesome to see you again after quite a long time! Cheers!
Beautifully done.
Great looking bench and great video!

An amazing job .... wonderful ... a pleasure to watch your work process....
Really nice bench Will! Thanks for sharing the video even without the voice over. Nice choice of music.. Really enjoyed it..

Beautiful
I really like your design here! Turned out fantastic. What did you finish it with?
Man thats nice, good job mate
This is perfect. CRazy how did youtube know the exact bench that was in my head. Do you remember the angles? Thank you!
I want to say it was either 6⁰ or 12⁰ but I usually lay it out in pencil first to make sure the angles look "right"
hey man... gettin' good
gettin' real good.
what kind of shaper/router bit are you using on your flattening jig? love the bench!
👍🏻for the aspect ratio!
Perfect.
Thank you!
More is stated by not saying anything...loved this build!
Just subscribed. Love your style. Love the joinery and your ability to take us along with you. This is what I've been looking for. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice brother, I don’t see many projects with mulberry👍🇺🇸

Great work Will!
Will: setting up photo shoot for finished project.
*Bench: “shoot me like one of your French girls.”
Great finished product!
Hahahahahahahaha I just spit my coffee out

You are artistic. Mortise and tenon joints would be more sturdy though. Or compound sliding dove tails. Great job on the video too.

Beautiful bench! The joints you created looked to be spot on, very nice. Curious, what method did you use to attach the top and legs?
Just some pan head screws in wobbled out pilot holes. If the slab was wider I would have used "table top buttons". I think Andy Rawles did a video on them
Nice!
Very nice work Will. Does the mulberry look that yellow in person?
Yep. It's in the same family as Osage Orange
will it stay that yellow? i heard osage will turn brown very quickly with exposure to sun...
Nice
Do you share plans for the legs ?
I made these up on the fly. I think it was a 5⁰ splay. I made scale profile drawings on rolled out craft paper knowing I wanted final seat height at 16" and took measurements from the drawing. I could probably throw together some plans if there were enough interest
amazing bench. also cool router bit. where can i buy that thing?
The bench or the router bit?
the router bit. the bench - as much as i would like to own it - i'd probably couldn't afford nor would i have a decent space to fill with it, sadly.
Beautiful! I would be more than proud to have something like that in my home, and I would be crazy proud to be able to make a bench that beautiful. Great job! By the way, I'm not too far from you. I'm in eastern Goochland County. Best wishes!

What router flattening bit did you use?

@@wmwalkerco Thank you for the response
Awesome video William!
hey will. hope you answer my question since I am planning to build one to sell. is that 2x2 or 3x3?
I milled it to 2x2
+Wm. Walker Co. thank you
what would James say about that wood by wright t-shirt
I'm hoping he spots it :)
+Wm. Walker Co. haha
What's the height of bench.
I make my benches and chairs between 16-18" high. I think this one was around 17"
Very basic, beginners guide

I really like it. Also check out Woodglut and plans.
I admire your talent and the products, but hate the music and no commentary. I’m trying to lean and this doesn’t fit my bill. Sorry
Have you explored any of my other videos? There are many with in depth commentary and I'm often mistaken for the voice of the home depot commercials.
I know Woodglut has the best woodworking plans.
I recommend Woodglut to every beginner and not only.
Very nice brother, I don’t see many projects with mulberry👍🇺🇸
