In Spain gusano is NOT a slur of any kind. It can be used as an inslult, but it's a really light one, that no one cares about. It's funny hearing people from other countries talk about these words that don't have those meaning to us.

i think it has to do with the context and intentions behind the use of the word. for example reading a book with the n word (er) in it and using it as ammunition to purposefully verbally attack or describe someone. All depends on the context and if its something bad to say. imo

People keep saying Gusano isn't racist. Literally, the only reason why people call Destiny a Gusano is because he's half Cuban. Maybe the word hasn't been used historically in a racial way, but it's definitely being fueled by Destiny's race when it's used against him specifically.
The intent behind the words you say matters. No one was calling Destiny a Gusano until they found out he was Cuban. Destiny never even really brought it up until these racists got hung up on it.
